Have been here to sell a couple times before. However today I came and they said it would be ready to pick up in 30 minutes. I came back an hour and a half later and they hadn't gone through my bag yet and asked if I could give her 20 minutes to go through it. I took my clothes in for some extra cash and my clothes were washed and were branded such as Nike, pink, banana republic, forever 21, cotton on etc. after having to wait two hours in the store the lady in charge with short hair and green eyes finally looked at my bag. I saw that she one peeked inside and soon called my name. She told me my clothes were stained and that they were kids sized which was only one shirt in there but none were stained because I made sure they were clean. After her telling me this I quickly grabbed my clothes and said thank you. Moments later I saw another woman walk out with her two bags full that she had dropped off. This lady was obviously not doing her job right and should be reported or retrained. Never coming back here ever again! read more

I recently had cleaned out my closet and I have always had wonderful experiences with Plato's closet in the past. I had never been to this particular location, but it is near my job so I loaded up my three trash bags full of clothing and headed over after work. The store was busy with people dropping off, so I anticipated a wait. The girl at the counter told me that they were taking mostly winter items, and most of what I brought in happened to be winter. She let me know it would be a forty-five minute wait, and encouraged me to leave and come back. She reassured me several times that they would call. An hour later I had not received a phone call, and when I walked in the girl who had helped me completely ignored me. I approached the register and another girl asked if I was ready to purchase anything. I was confused and told them I just wanted to know if they had accepted anything I had dropped off. The girl who had previously helped me (and then later ignored me) pointed to a corner where my three bags sat, and she informed me that they had not taken anything. All of this would just be a sad resale story except I would like to note that none of my bags had been opened. The garbage bags were knotted still and one would've had to tear it open to go through the clothes. I'm not complaining because Plato's didn't purchase any of my clothes, I'm complaining because my time was wasted. No one bothered to even look at what I brought in. I have always spent more of my money that what I ever made back selling at Plato's Closet and I am so disappointed. I brought a bag of shoes to sell at Plato's. The staff seemed disorganized and they weren't exactly friendly. At first, I was told they were a bit behind so I'd have to drop my shoes off and wait for an hour and a half. I came back after and hour and a half, only to be told that they were still behind and it would yet another hour or two. I came back almost two hours later. To their credit, they gave me a coupon for waiting so long. total time waited: 3+hours. They paid me $7 for two pairs of shoes...that's $2.33 for every hour I waited. Better than Buffalo who turned down the entire bag, but not worth the time waiting. read more

This store is perfect for my teen daughter. All the teens want brand names and to look trendy. It is not a top notch department store so don't expect much. Plato's Closet is after all a thrift store. The prices fit with my budget and if you know how to dig you can put together some good outfits. read more

Horrible service, don't try to sell here. The service is nonexistent and petty, have seen workers talk about customers behind their backs when they're still in the store, they prioritize some customers over others and they don't go through bags of sellers they don't like to save time but lie and say they do. They took one look at me (a small looking young adult) and told me they couldnt take anything due to wear and kid sizes. Nothing in there was kid sized and some things even had price tags still on it. They also tried to give me $4 for a $125 betsy Johnson bag. Wish I could give 0 stars. I wish I could say that I even went through with the experience of buying and selling so I could compare to Buffalo Exchange! I walked in with an armload of neatly pressed "in season", hardly worn, stylish dresses and tops to sell. I wasnt greeted at the counter, but ignored by three young salespeople behind the buy counter. Strike one. Finally I caught the attention of one girl who proceeded to tell me that she was going to have to ask me to remove the hangers from my clothes because "it makes it very hard on us"(attitude). I did as directed and filled out my little form. "The wait is 45 minutes." Well, since I had never been there before I wasnt sure of the policies so I asked if I needed to stay in the store or if I could leave while waiting. "You can come back and check. We are not going to CALL you.(smirk smirk)" After this less than pleasant interaction I decided to stay in the store with my things. I noticed that they shucked my hangers in a bin so I walked over to ask the other salesperson if I could have my hangers back. "Well, you just LEFT them there so I put them away!" she replied haughtily. At that moment I realized that I was going to get nowhere with these folks. Every word that dripped from these young women's mouths was filthy with attitude. Id rather donate to Goodwill than be condescended to by a 20 year old wearing a sweater cap in 90 degree weather. I wish I could give this place negative stars... Not only did they sneer at my high quality, Nordstrom brand and higher clothing, they STOLE clothes out of my bag when they "passed" on all of my clothes. I left my bag of clothes there when they told me it would be a six hour wait... Really? Are you kidding me? but I am moving so I left it there and went about my errands. When I returned, a snarky, acne-covered, Justin Bieber-haired child laughed at my "old and worn" clothing (hardly, about 1/3 of the items still had price tags on them) and said they would pass on everything. His band of minions behind the counter giggled, as he shoved the bag across the counter at me. I got back in the car, drove home, and brought the bag back inside and looked through it. 4 items were missing, 2 nice dresses, and 2 pairs of jeans. WTF?!?!?! I called the store and was promptly hung up on twice by some other bratty kids who work there. Absolutely ludicrous... I came here one Saturday morning while they were dead. Maybe one customer in the store. The place looked a mess and the "customer service" was non-existent. They don't offer good trade in prices and I'm sure their cash offers are even worse. It's so unorganized and jam packed with garbage they call clothing. My 5yr old takes better care of his clothes than they do. And the customer service! I was appalled by the way I was treated here! It's like the staff think they're so much better than you. Remember you're the one working at plato's, not me. I guess if I had to smell the odor of feet all day I'd be pretty unpleasant as well. 1star because I have to at least leave one. Today I took Rock Revival, seven, miss sixty, bullhead, ymi and lucky denim and a pair of gently worn Joan and David shoes to this sunset location. I asked questions about how they decide on a price, she says all the prices for brands are in the computer. She says it'll be about 20 minutes. As I'm waiting I'm looking around, less than impressed with deodorant stains on some of their non designer shirts sporting $12 price tags, heavily worn seven jeans for $40, lots of them. Lots of mall brands, not designer, malls store brands like Charlotte Rouse, forever 21, express, even jones new York jeans-(ick)!! Finally I bring a few (maybe) items to the front so I can see if they're done looking at my stuff. I wasn't loving anything I picked up but thought if they buy my stuff at fair prices I'd consider buying theirs. She says oh, we can't use any of it they're all too "old"!!! Way to make a girls day. These were nice jeans. No stains, no frays or fading. I took them back home. I'll look for a new home for these jeans my girls have out grown myself. Yesterday was my first visit to this location. Before I went I read the previous reviews and decided to give it a try even though they weren't that great. Soooooo I wanted to leave a positive review to help outweigh the negative ones. I took in several pair of shoes and a few clothing items that I had taking up space. They only bought 2 pair of heels from me but I wasn't expecting to sell everything anyway. I found some really cute shorts too! The staff was young and friendly. Also I didn't have to wait forever for a dressing room, nor did they watch me like I was going to steal something (I hate it when retail stores do that). Overall I thought the selection was vast and I will be returning since I now live on this end of town. If they would've bought all of my stuff then I would've gone with 5 stars ;) read more

I literally got there at 10:15, when they opened to beat the selling crowd. They told me 15 minutes. The manager continued to do her opening duties, even when she saw me standing around waiting. After 20 minutes I asked if she said 15 or 50 minutes and then she decided to look at my clothes. When she looked at my clothes it took her about 2 minutes - thanks for the awesome customer service and NOT doing that when you first saw me walk in. My clothes had tags on them and were never worn - they didn't accept those. It's ironic because the clothes they sell are extremely used and in worse condition than what I brought it. The store is too cluttered - looks filthy. Purses and shoes are just thrown on the floor. Literally - had to step on purses to look at other purses. The store smells real bad too. Wouldn't kill the employees to smile.... I didn't get one smile or thank you. Also, you would hope the staff would dress trendy and cute if they have buying taste. It was complete opposite - frumpy tees and fleece jackets, sneakers and baggy jeans. Clearly they lack style here. read more

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews on here. It seems like many reviewers have unrealistic expectations for Plato's closet. You aren't going to get top dollar at a resale boutique for your used clothes and yes they are going to be picky about what they buy; they have to resell it. If you want top dollar, go sell them yourself on Offer Up or one of the many other apps. I had a great experience. I took in some clothes that I was going to donate and ended up selling some. The staff was very friendly, the process was easy, and it wasn't dirty at all. I recommend it! read more

Maybe five times in 6 months I went there, and I put 3 stars because there are organized sizes and neat. It needs to move other place because it is getting crowds. I put 2 stars for staffs who works there, I don't feel warm welcoming when I first time enter and they were just do their own minds, focus on clothes. I went to the Cedar Park location today and finally had enough. The sales staff are stuck up. They don't care about making customers happy. They are rude, give you nasty looks, don't greet you or say thank you or anything when checking out. I stood in front of the cashier counter while an employee checked out another employee, which would have been fine except she didn't say anything to me (a simple "I'll be with you in a minute," or something would have been nice!) After a couple minutes she finally asked another employee to check me out. I've had this experience every time I've been in here, and it's frustrating. I'm the type of person who says please and thank you a lot, and it really gets to me when other people are so blatantly rude. read more

They really need to train their staff properly on how to buy "appropriately" . I brought in 2 full containers of mens clothes that was the exact style you usually see in a Platos closet (vans shoes, lucky jeans, misc t-shirts, apt 9 button downs ect...) I had to wait of course 2 hrs and all they purchased were the things I didn't think they would take giving me $15. Every time I ask why they didn't take the rest of the clothes their excuse which is always the same "condition and older styles". This coming from a store that has BOSS and tommy hilger in their inventory. I end up taking the left over clothes to another platos who ends up buying almost half of my clothes I just hate driving 30 mins just to sell clothes. One word, PATHETIC! read more

I've shopped and sold at platos all over ( Colorado & Texas) But this one has to be the worst. I keep trying to give it another chance but this last time took the cake. I took a bag of clothes ( forever 21, Charlotte Russe, rue 21, true religion, rock republic ect...) they took nothing and the excuse they gave me was " your items are not trendy and are of a different age" now if they were different brand or years old I could understand but I don't think anything in the bag was older than 4 -5 months. I was also waiting on a friend that sold some item so I looked around and I saw three of the same shirts that were in my bag on the hangers for sale in different colors.... They advertise about how they will buy your gently used clothes, especially denim. Well I brought them a bunch of really nice designer jeans that don't fit me anymore and they only took two pairs! They gave me $26, which was not worth the effort of washing and drying all those jeans and driving them over there. I won't bother trying again. read more

Don't ever go here. Not that I would want to shop at platos closet anyways. I tried dropping off a good sized bag full of brand name clothes and I was told they were "a little to old" for what they were "looking for" which makes no sense because I had recently bought something from free people about a month ago that was in the bag along with other up to date items. I can see if I dropped off a bunch of super old worn items but I didn't so...its just unfortunate how ignorant the girls were at this store like yikes. I'm not even sure if they looked at my bag? Which is super annoying since it just was a big waste of time. I'm sure if the owner had found out about this, that this would not be acceptable. Not only was the customer service awful, the girls were dressed like they were slutty teenagers. I don't even think there was a manager on duty. This place is going to run out of business which it rightfully should. Goodwill has better employees than this place and that's saying a lot. This store is a piece of crap(literally). The owner has abosolutely no idea how to run a store and should really get/take some advice. I'm extremely surprised it's still running seeing how not one single employee can last one or two months with out quitting. they definitely need to learn what exactly is in style and keep to their promise of "we look for trends with in the past yearto year and a half". they items they do take are garbage, Hence why they always have major clearences because there is something wrong with the item and want to get rid of it since it was their mistake. These people were awful. I went to the location on Brodie lane. I was told that i had to wait an hour and half for some clothes that I dropped off and the women did not even go through my clothes, yet when i was told to come to the desk so I could see if they were going to buy them they told me that my clothes were "outdated" and "not good enough". These women are not nice people and I refuse to ever go there again. The least they could have done was have some type of courtesy to buy something from my bag after me spending money there multiple times, that's just good business. Not impressed at all. I have never sold my clothes to Platos Closet but figured "what the heck". Of all 3 bags of shoes (stilettos, booties) two arms full of dresses, tops and pants, they bought nothing. I agree with the other reviews, very pretentious and kind of snooty atmosphere. I even walked around to see what they were selling and I guess I didn't have enough short, leather, sparkly items to offer. By far the WORST customer service I've ever had. Went in recently to sell and the blonde girl who was at the counter didn't bother to acknowledge me or even try to lie and say she was doing something and would be right with me. A few minutes later and still standing there- other customers walked in and she immediately ran over to assist them only realizing that I was still there with nothing to fill out. I got the paper work done and she told me it would about 30 minutes. When I came back the same girl made me wait and then finally asked another girl who was busy to assist me- the other girl then commented loudly how she thought it was odd to pull her up to assist me when the original girl wasn't busy. After everything I felt awkward and upset as to why this girl woud go out of her way to not assist me. Don't bother wasting your time or business here. read more

I agree with several of the reviews. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. The only reason i am giving one star is because i have no choice; it's the lowest rating. If you have anything expensive to sell, take it to Buffalo Exchange where they know expensive brands. This Plato's Closet is a complete joke. The store is overcrowded and disorganized for shoppers to find anything. You'll get an arm workout trying to sift through the racks as they are FULL. This wouldn't be such a headache if the clothing filling the racks were worth the hangers they are on. They stock Target and Old Navy clothes and accessories over Free People, DVF, Anthropologie, Steve Madden, J. Crew, etc. You get the picture. As an added bonus, the store owner is a complete jerk, both to customers and her employees. I have no idea how this place is still in business. It was great when it opened, but this establishment has completely gone into the gutter. I will never set foot in this Plato's Closet location again. Do try the north store though. You'll be shocked at the difference in good ownership and management...night and day. read more

Well I will just say the people working here lack customer service skills. They were beyond rude. I brought in several items I had received or bought over the last year. I even brought a shirt from target that still had the tag on it because it never fit me and I just was being super lazy about returning it or exchanging it so i decided ill just add it to the stuff i was taking. Well i could over hear the lady and her other workers saying why does it still have the tag maybe it is stolen...like wow really. and then my tory burch purse.....well they were unable to tell if it was real or fake even with proof that it was real. so they googled how to tell if its real or fake and then determined it was real after several rude and unbelievable comments. I will just stop there I could go on about the blatant rudedness but itd be of no purpose. If you are gonna work at a high end resale shop maybe you should have people who are properly trained on how to spot fakes and maybe just maybe keep the rude comments to your self at least until the customer leaves. I would rather sell my donate my items to a homeless stranger than ever step foot in here again. read more

This location is by my work, and as me and my husband are trying to save money I find myself visiting Platos Closet often. This location, however, is one that could use some improvement. I've noticed others have commented about the awful smell that fills the entire store. I purchased a tshirt from there, and immediately after taking it home had to wash the terrible smell out! The smell reminds me of old/unwashed/dirty shoes. Just recently I took in a large box of items to sell, good brands such as American Eagle, Hollister, and Abercrombie and Fitch. I was looking through the store and seeing a lot of brands/styles that I was selling and felt hopeful that my box of clothes would be all sold, if not most of the clothes..boy was I wrong. 1 shirt was picked out of the large box I brought in! She told me the other clothes were "last season" and she could not purchase them...well then why is your store filled with the exact styles/brands I was selling? Honestly it makes me no difference if I sold the clothes or just had to donate them, but it's irritating to see the same clothes (if not worse condition) on the shelves and then they not buy mine. However, many people have sadly said this is the case. Not to mention looking at some of the clothes I was turned off by the visible stains and holes, and again the smell! I've talked with many people and the sadly agree that this location is not up to standards. I've visited many others and they were great! read more

I found this store really cool. its definatly a place where you'll need the time to shift through it all. my roommate and i went today and she ended up with a handfull of stuff to try on. i only found 3. The guy employee told me that they were looking to buy guys clothes. he made me and my roomie feel at welcome. i could tell he was in the middle of something, boxes in hand, but he stopped to talk anyways and funny at that. gave us both high fives. but that was very cool. the girls working there were adorable. they seemed like one big family. most places you gothe employees talk only to themselves, but they all talked to us too. one of them and my roomie talked about the stupidist thing, but it was nice to seem them break that fourth wall. one girl was talking to an older lady about her daughters graduation and blah blah, but it was kinda refreshing to see that. austin has a lot of snobbs and elitest, but here, it just felt comfortable. chill ya know. read more

if i could give this place no stars i would. i ignored some of the negative reviews and figured that i would give this place a try since i had such a good experience at buffalo exchange. this staff isn't very polite and they literally scan the contents of your bag. i watched one of the staff members open up the bag look inside and close it back up. i mean come on, at least pull the clothes out to see if you want to take them or not. the last time i came here they said to come back in the fall time because they already had a lot of what i had to sel ( i think they said this because they were closing in 10 minutes but whatevs), but they would need it for back to school. this time they said all of my clothes were too used and out of style. how the heck could they say two different things? did i mention that it was the same sales person each time? i will NEVER go back here and encourage you to check our buffalo exchange instead if you are looking to sell your things. read more
