There's a Portlandia episode about stores like this. I know it is all about one's specific taste and what the store is accepting at that moment. Do not bother bringing in Nordstrom and name brand clothes as is a teeny bopper store with kids making decisions. You can find good deals here if you are 15. They have some decent jeans and sweaters, lots of teen clothes mostly no names and forever 21. They didnt take my riding boots but a boot for sale had a dirty sock in it ...and they didn't buy my worn once wedges and Jessica Simpson heels that were chucked back into my bags. Guess that's better bc I would rather keep them than give them to this store for $2. Bring your teens to shop and sell their clothes. I will be looking for a women's consignment shop and I'm tempted to open my own. read more

I come in here a few times to bring my stuff but I think this will be my last. The wait is ridiculously too long and their clothes aren't even that cute so I basically circle the store. The one cute top I did want to purchase had No tag on it but it did have the original tag from F21 on it that was priced at 8.99 so I go up to the front assuming it would be cheaper than 8.99.. NOPE! The girl said uhhh 10$?! My response was seriously? You are going to make me pay more than the original price? She lowered it by like 2$ after I said something lol..but c'mon. They only took one thing out of my big suitcase and I watched them just crush my suitcase with someone else's bag. So rude! They need to hire new people!! read more

Completely unprofessional. I've been here a couple of times because I live nearby, and both times I have left annoyed. Once, the employees complained loudly about a previous customer while there were other customers in there. They also could not find a fitting room key and I nearly crawled under one to try clothes on. Then there were live beetles everywhere. read more

A frequent patron of Buffalo Exchange, I had been meaning to check this place our for a while, and I'm glad I did! They had many brands and recent styles of designer jeans for under $50--Rock and Republic, 7 For All Mankind, etc. Everything I saw on the racks was in decent condition and priced fairly for the brand and condition. I haven't tried selling anything there yet, but if they're anything like Buffalo Exchange, then they only want items from the last few seasons. They had a handy marketing technique, too. If I agreed to update my Facebook status or Check In there, they would give me 10% off my purchase. Deal! read more

First, the place reeks of the grand unwashed. Second, many of the clothing choices would work fine for street walkers. Lots of neon, glitter, and "expressions" on the outfits. The staff is whiny, rude, and condescending. Won't go back...ever. read more

Plato's on Brodie lane SUCKS! I took 6 pairs of BRAND NEW Buckle jeans in to sell... had to wait an hour, and they did not take ANY of them... BIG brands like Big Star, BKE, etc... I only tried them on in the dressing room (never wore them), and they would not take any! I also took in about 4 NICE pairs of dress pants that they refused to take. One pair still had the tag on them... I do not recommend the time and effort to anyone.. Screw that place. Won't even shop there now. read more

The workers here need a reality check. I've come in to this location at least 3 times and literally have heard them whine/complain/sass to each other about customers and their coworkers. It is extremely unprofessional and, honestly, embarrassing. While I was shopping (for the 5 minutes I was in there, as I didn't realize they close so early on Sundays), I heard them make fun of a customer right after they left, complain about some coworker who apparently tells them what to do too much, and try to make an announcement while giggling the whole time. I read and saw all the one star reviews before coming here for my first time, but I thought eh, it can't be that bad. It was. Honestly the rudest staff I've ever witnessed, especially in a retail store. When I asked for a dressing room, the girl looked at me without saying a word. The next encounter I had with the cashier made me feel as if I was being a nuisance for trying to check out. She slammed the receipt down on the counter for me to sign and it most likely would have killed her to say have a good day. Such a waste of time coming to this place, they are ridiculously picky cleary they don't know what's in style by looking at their clothes. I bought in a bag of clothes and I was told that it would take a hour or less. I came back after a hour and she said she was no where near looking at my clothes then she tells me to come back in 2 1/2 hours. I showed up 2 hours before they closed because I wanted to make sure it was looked through. The girl then tells me all my stuff is out of style and we can't take any of it. Most of my clothes are less than a year old. I'm a young adult I know what's in style I purchase clothes all the time. I don't understand this place. Showed up on Monday evening to sell my clothes and was told it would be 45 minutes and that I couldn't leave the store. Strike #1. This forced me to dig through their racks of crappy, worn out clothing while I watched the 18 year old male "buyer" dig through my clothes. What does an 18 year old dude know about women's fashion? During this process, he discards cute clothing from H&M, Express, The Limited, Urban Outfitters, etc as well as a $200 pair of barely worn designer jeans. Items they bought from me? Cheap clothes from Forever 21. They paid me $8 for a dress I bought at Forever 21 for no more than $15 (while on the other hand only paid me for $5 for a $50 dress purchased from Strut that still had the tags on). Their system makes no sense at all. They claim they have and want to buy the "hottest brand names" from you. Yeah right. If by "hottest name brands" you mean Walmart, Target, Old Navy & Hollister then yes. That is seriously all I saw on their racks and these items are barely a discount at all. You are better off hitting up the next sale at Target and Old Navy and getting brand new clothes for cheap! I will never go back to this place. read more

I would never recommend this platos closet establishment. They did not go through any of the 6 bags of very nice clothing I brought in, I came to pick my items up and they were untouched completely folded as before. They are judge mental, prejudice and liars. When questioning them why they did not go through my clothes accusing me of smoking marijuana and cigarettes. They refused to give me any explanation of why they did not touch my clothes other than accusing me of smoking, I just brought the same bag of clothes in into another platos closet location and received 40$ with the same exact clothes that have no odor of smoke because I do not smoke. They ignored customers, they were rude. They are racist and quite frankly trash. The whole establishment. I guess Donald trump has really got the citizens of the u.s. The first time I sold clothes here, I was in love. No waiting in line for hours just to have a bored-looking girl with pointy red fingernails, a dragon tattoo, and "ironic" lens-less large-frame glasses tell me my clothes were soo last April. (Oh, Buffalo Exchange, you know I love you... well, most of the time.) I sold practically all of the items I brought, and for about the same rate as Buffalo Exchange in the good old days. Unfortunately, too many people know about this place now... I took a bag of clothes in yesterday and was informed that they were so far behind, that my wait would be about two-and-a-half hours. Hoping for as successful an experience as the last time, I bit my tongue and came back a languishing two-and-a-half hours later to discover that they still had not gotten to my bag. A few minutes (and profuse apologies) later, I was presented with $11.00 for three very nice items (including a brand new American Eagle dress and pair of sandals) and a $2 "coupon" for my time. Very limited selection. Prices aren't cheap like the traditional thrift stores. Don't expect them to pay you much for name brand stuff. For example they sell TR jeans for about $50-60 and will pay you maybe $15. read more

I've been going to this one for quite a while. Mainly because it's the closest to me. But, yes, my main complaint is that they don't have much of a selection for women like me (who have the money to spend). Meaning there is a VERY limited supply of any size over 2 or small. Now my 10 year old finds tons of stuff she likes because she is a size 10 in kids. SO for fun tops that not every other girl in school might have its a good source. But, for me, a size 10 in womens, its not so much. And this particular store has had a lot of staff changes and went through a long period of being quite disorganized. The racks seemed better organized last time. In sum, its a quick stop that you must frequent to spot an occasional cute top, bag or T. I tend to find more larger sizes and selection at some of the other Platos. read more

This time the staff was super rude. they didn't show what they took from my box because they "didn't know " which bin the items they were interested in were at... but I was okay with it since I just assumed it was just 1 or 2 items they selected to keep. But ended up being more than 10! If I knew they took most of the very high end clothes,shoes, and purses I would have declined the offer of $30! which was such a disappointment! Just. Awful. I went into the store for the first time last night and experienced the worst customer service I've had in a long time. I had two tops in my hand that I asked to try on and was told they didn't allow use of dressing rooms 10 minutes before closing. When I asked how people made a decision to buy without being able to try it on she stated that they just buy stuff and return it. I asked if it was possible to purchase and return the stuff I had, she looked at it and rolled her eyes and then, exasperated, walks over to get a key, unlocks the dressing room and storms off. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt that it was the end of the night and maybe she had just had a bad day. Fast forward to today when I came back to sell. I walked in and the same girl was behind the counter, she looked at me and then turned around to go back to what she was doing without a word. Eventually she walked over and said "fill this out" and motioned toward a pad of paper and walked away again. I filled it out, dropped off my clothes and she told me it would be done in an hour or so. When I came back a few hours later, same treatment on repeat. I'm honestly in shock that the girl still has a job because from what I can tell I'm not the only one to have had that experience. I had put a few things on hold to purchase, but after being treated like I was a huge inconvenience on two separate occasions, I decided I would spend my hard earned money elsewhere. It's really a shame that they let someone who is so obviously miserable be the face of that store. I will not be returning and I will definitely not be recommending anyone else go there. I came in twice to sell 3 bags of clothes. I didn't expect to sell everything, but at least some things. She didn't take anything. She said the same thing that others have mentioned, "not in style, worn, too mature for their demographic, " but when I went to go look around while I was waiting for them to look through my clothes, I saw similar tank tops, dresses and jackets to what I was trying to sell AND clothes with stains on them. I had a few plain black camisoles in my bag that were never worn and for some reason, those are out of style? Have they seen some of the clothes they are selling? Some are really tacky and tattered. I guess that's the kind of clothes that they buy....And then after telling me that they wouldn't buy anything, she had the audacity to ask me if I still wanted to shop around! uh no thank you, 30 minutes was long enough. read more

I have sold clothes to many different Plato's Closets before and this has been my worst experience. They judged me and not my clothes. They told me that my clothes were older brands and not in style. In the bag I had clothes I had taken care of and were Hollister, Volcom, Forever 21, Old Navy, etc. How are those older brands? In the future I will take my clothes to Goodwill because I would rather make sure they end up in hands that truly appreciate them rather than a store who needs a reality check. read more

I just took probably 10 pairs of jeans brand new I haven't worn them yet because I gained weight after I bought them. I come back and they said they couldn't take any of them because the style was "a little bit older." Really? they're jeans and they're brand new! Definitely wouldn't waste a trip going here. Came in on a Monday around lunch time so drop off a bag of clothing to sell. They told me it would be an hour. I left and had lunch, came back an hour later. I told the girl at the desk that I was there to pick up. She looked at a clip board and told me the wait was two hours. Two hours? On top of the hour I just waited? Terrible customer service. Walked in and this one girl who came to "take care" of me looked like she was completely miserable. After a few times of hearing her mutter her words I thought maybe she was having a bad day so I gave her a compliment hoping to at least get a smile or something out of her, but nothing. She muttered thanks and continued to keep muttering. When I went back in to see if they had picked any of my clothes she just looked at me with a blank stare and finally 30 seconds later decided to speak to me. I never felt welcome going in, and i'm completely disgusted by the attitude of this employee. I wont be going back no matter how close this one is to my apartment. After seeing I'm not the only one who feels this way, it looks like they need someone new to take over before they go out of business. If negative stars were possible, that's what this establishment would get. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. They also seem bored and distant like your presence is a bother to them. They don't make you feel welcome AT ALL. They're rude, judgemental, and unhelpful. Especially when asking for a dressing room. On multiple occasions I have had to ask more than once and/or they have rolled their eyes. Clothing selections have been getting increasingly worse. All the clothes are faded, torn, or too worn out. "Gently used" is not the selection they have. I have also on many occasions tried to sell items to them from places like Target, Macy's, Hollister, Wet Seal, etc. that have been worn once or not at all and they've never been accepted. Clothes WITH THE TAGS ON have been passed up yet there is faded and scratchy materials hanging on their racks. The prices are ridiculous as well. I'd much rather pay a few dollars extra than shop at this unprofessional, overpriced, amateurly run store. I will not be shopping here again. read more

Management (or lack thereof) will kill this store. They have a decent selection that's pretty well-organized, but customer service is virtually nonexistent. No greeting when I entered, dead silence as I asked for a dressing room, and an outstretched palm when I was ready to check out (seriously?). Sad thing was, this was from three different people. After I paid then realized I needed another item, I asked if I could leave my things behind the counter for a few minutes while I looked. The response: "Well I can't guarantee it won't get lost because a lot of things get lost back here." So I carried my items with me. I found something I wanted and was so floored by my treatment as a paying customer that I walked out instead of buying the additional item. Customer service drives sales! Basic business 101.
