I had a really disappointing experience at Plato's Closet in Greenfield. The two staff members working this morning came across as rude and impatient, and their tone felt very dismissive. I understand everyone has off days, but it shouldn't be taken out on customers. Customer service makes a big difference in where people choose to shop. Unfortunately I have to give this place 1 star because I brought in a shit ton of clothes and all they took was a pair of Nike's i originally sold on facebook marketplace for 50 bucks and an old but still great condition Calvin Klein sweater. All they gave me was $12.03! I feel like what I sold could've at least been 30 or more but come on. After leaving this place, in my head I'm like "Wow, Plato's closet sucks ass!" But the only good thing about it is that the employees are nice and some of them are people I went to high school with. That's the only good thing I can say is that the people are nice, but it's kinda a rip off for getting such low amounts of money back for clothes that were probably worth more. Getting clothes from is great. Prices are affordable but I went to give my clothes and I had already waited 2 hours! They out little papers with numbers on them just for you to be skipped. They don't follow the order and just skip. If I never had asked or said anything I probably would wait another hour. At that point I had already waited 3 hours! It should be noted that Plato's greenfield is no longer on Layton Ave. it's in the plaza on 76th street. So don't use yelp's address to get you there. I've been to this Plato's location several times since moving to the area as both a buyer and a seller and I am fairly satisfied with my experience every time. The store is well stocked, clean, and neat, and the workers have always been very friendly and helpful. Plato's closet is a really great alternative for someone like me who likes name brand clothes, but not the price that comes with them. My first time in any Plato's Closet and I was pleasantly surprised at the selection and incredibly happy with the prices! Plato's will pay you cash or store credit for your hip and trendy clothes, then they sell them at a deep discount! This Plato's trends heavily towards tweens and teens, so teach your Mallrats how to scan the racks for cool finds! Since the prices are so affordable, you can probably get 3 outfits here for the price of a new outfit at the mall. I liked that they took the time to carefully arrange the clothes by size, unlike some vintage stores, and had my exact size in jeans (which is an odd number, and hard to find). The only difficult thing here is finding an open fitting room (ie. stall). The four stalls were held hostage by teens trying on outfit after outfit, then modeling them for their friends. Am I in the movie Clueless? Jeans went back on the rack! But I did find several work shirts in excellent condition, a Calvin Klein for $7? Sold! Nightmare Before Christmas short sleeve Tee? I can wear that at Disney, like all the cool kids! Cool hats, winter jackets, trendy kicks...Plato's Closet seems to have it all covered, for super cheap. read more

The parking at this location can definitely be crazy, especially if you're going during a rush at Panera - which is also in the strip mall. However, usually the only issue is people taking up two spots or "riding the line". Overall, I think this Plato's is run very well. There are times when their stock doesn't match my personal taste, but things cycle through very quickly. One of the bigger downsides (for some customers) is that there are definitely a higher number of items that are XS-M. I noticed that, at least currently, the Large and XL sections were quite a bit smaller. That said, there were also quite a few items that went beyond "gently used". I absolutely recommend that you try everything on. Sizes run so differently from brand to brand. Returns can only be made for store credit or even exchange (which is fair), so keep that in mind. Other than that? The staff can sometimes be a tad snippy, but I've also had amazing employees help me out. Plato's is a good place to look for clothes without paying quite as high of prices. read more

I love coming here to get rid of cloths I no longer wear! Process is really simple and they make it extremely easy to sell. You check in with your unwanted items and give the cashier your contact information. They then give you an estimated time it will take to look through your items and when they're ready, they simply just text you to come see what they can offer you. I love that you don't have to wait around the store until they're age done, if your hungry they have a Panera bread next door, Kopp's, & Wendy's across the street. I rarely shop here but my girlfriend always finds cool pieces that she can incorporate into her wardrobe so you kill time looking around as well. Helpful tip, make sure the cloths you're donating are clean and in season. That way you can get the most money for your items. If you really want to be prepared, call ahead and see what kind of items they're currently looking for or low on so you can bring the right things! read more

I swung into Platos last week when I needed a couple pairs of jeans and didn't want to pay full price for them. I brought a new pair of Frye boots and hoped I'd be able to make a buck off them. They are located in a strip mall by a Panera and CD Xchange, not too big of a store, but packed to the brim with stuff. They offered my $20 for my boots, and explained that though they could clearly tell me they were worth more, the most they can offer for anything is $20, and the most they can mark them at is $50, so she honestly recommended I keep them and try somewhere else. I appreciated the honesty. There are tons of jeans, and they're separated by style which is really nice (skinny leg etc). They are pretty well organized and I ended up trying on several pairs, and walking out with three, two of which were BRAND new with tags! The new pairs were $25 which I thought was fair. The rest of the store was a pretty big mess though. I grabbed a few tops, but was disappointed in the dressing room to see that all of them were the wrong sizes and had been misplaced, honestly I saw a LOT of clothes that were stuck in the wrong areas. I walked out with two tops and two pairs of jeans for $60, which I thought was a good day of shopping. I'd come back, but I honestly think that maybe once a year they should go through their inventory and remove probably half of it. I have never been able to sell clothes here. I see other reviewers have had similar experiences bringing in like new clothes only to have none purchased. They tell me some of my items were too worn... Everything i brought was worn a small handful of times. I can guarantee it barely looked worn or i wouldn't have brought it. This has happened twice here. I looked around and saw fairly few cute clothes in my size. I'm a juniors xl but I'm far from huge and i get upset they hardly carried anything cute i could even consider. Extra depressing after they tell me another reason they don't want any of my items because it's bigger than they like to sell. That's nice. I heard about Platos Closet from a newspaper article. When I went today for the first time I was happy to find a very clean, well organized store with good merchandise. The clothing seemed to be mostly the hip, trendy name brands that teenagers want, but I am unwilling to pay full price for. I'm glad to know there is a place that I can take my picky teenage daughter and her brother and they can both find things that wont break the bank. I was happy that I found a cute pair of earrings for me for only $2. I did not sell any items to them, so I am not sure how that works, but several people came in to sell their items while I was there, and they all seemed to be out fairly quickly and seemed happy with their transaction. If you have teenagers, you really should check it out.....I can't wait to check out the Brookfield store when it opens in February. read more

The store is looking for clothes from the teen demo and twenty something- Anything from (Forever 21,Target, Kohls,Gap Abercombie, American Eagle, Express,H&M etc). They accept bags, shoes,hoodies,earrings I had a couple of tops and a pair of boots I was trying to get rid of. I scanned a couple of the racks I saw Steve Madden nude pumps, Express turtle neck. In the end, I didn't get as much as I wanted. Their prices are actually higher than Goodwill and Salvation Army surprisingly. They have dressing rooms. There's a young men's section. I mean its a good place to make some money of your clothes lying around. You have the option of accepting cash or store credit. read more

I was a first time customer looking to get rid of a bunch of clothes, including brands like urban outfitters, h&m, pacsun, aerie, etc. No staff greeted anyone when entering, and there were several customers without masks in the store despite the sign on the door that said no one may enter without one. I was told at the desk that their inventory was high, so they were not accepting much, and told me it would take 30 minutes to sort through my stuff. After a max of 10 minutes I got the text everything was done. I got about $20 for 5ish items of clothing so not bad but not great. Overall, service was mediocre, store was disheveled, mask mandate not enforced. I will probably not return. read more

When I first walked into the store, I was greeted by a worker. That was nice. While shopping, the workers were very rude, unhelpful, and distracted. The woman who opened my fitting room failed to open one for my friend even though it was clear that she needed a fitting room. Then a worker bumped into my friend and did not say anything not even "sorry". While checking out, the woman at the register was very distracted. She was talking to 3 other coworkers about a man that disliked them. It was a totally inappropriate work topic especially in front of customers. The woman checking us out was very slow and she did not pay attention to us whatsoever. I learned from my friend that the woman gave me a dirty look as I walked away. Very rude. We were preparing to leave and she didn't say anything to us like "have a good night". The aisles were also very small and claustrophobic. Clothes were not in the correct spots and different types of pants were in different sections. It was not organized at all. It was not a pleasant experience. Plato's Closet needs better management and attentive kind workers. I do not recommend this Plato's Closet. Go somewhere else to shop unless you want to be treated rudely and have slow service. I just went here today and brought in a bunch of my clothes that I don't want anymore. They gave me over a hundred dollars for a basket filled with stuff. I was surprised to get that much money for stuff that was just laying around my house for so long! They went through my things quickly and I got to look around to see what they had to offer. I was very impressed! Lots of brand name clothing for super cheap! I'm talking, nearly thrift store prices on stuff that is practically new (very lightly worn). I went here last week with four large plastic containers of clothes and they only wanted two things. The workers there are quite ignorant. I have to say I agree with a lot of the comments about the workers there. I asked them about my other things and the lady I was working with got real smart with me so I was no longer interested in talking with her and I picked up my things and left. After getting home I decided to look at some of the reviews on here and on Google and see if it was just me and to my surprise it seems quite a few people have had unpleasant visits there. There were two other people in front of me one of them asked the lady behind the counter something and the workers said something pretty smart to her which I can not put on here. I should have read the reviews of this place before wasting my time. I took 3 garbage bags full of VERY gently used clothing and a pair of shoes to sell here and they only wanted to buy ONE shirt and the shoes, and they only offered me $6 for both!! I was told some of my items are not current enough, and some are too professional. My clothes were way better than anything I found for sale there...I literally didn't find one thing I wanted to buy when I browsed the store. I will say the young lady who greeted me was very polite. Too bad she wasn't the one who looked through my items. Apparently my clothes aren't good enough for them because they're not from American Eagle Outfitters or Banana Republic. As a person who loves name brand clothing but doesn't love the name brand prices, Plato's is the way to go. This location is smaller which I feel is a huge downfall. Yes the selection is decent but it's hard to maneuver around the store. The staff for the most part is very nice and helpful. This place totally fell below my expectations. 1. The teenage girls working there were apathetic and unmotivated. Either they didn't care and were OK with showing it, or they were uninformed with the basic etiquette of working in retail. 2. While I was waiting for my clothes to be assessed for sale, I took a look around. Everything was generally cheap (as in quality) and nothing really seemed like a good deal. If I could pay $8 there for a shirt from Forever 21, or $10 for the real thing, I might as well get an un-worn version. 3. They need to figure out what they want to buy from people, or change their stated requirements. Of the approx. 25 items I brought, most (admittedly not all, but definitely, most) items were exactly as they had requested- newer, in style, condition appearing unworn, washed, etc. They only accepted two items. I am not exactly sure what they are looking for, and I don't plan on selling/shopping here again. Might as well just go to Goodwill and at least feel good about yourself. read more

Rudest staff ever. I went there to both shop and sell. I had a pair of shoes looking to get rid of. It wasn't really a big deal if I sold or not, it was my first time here so I wanted to see how it worked. The shoes where clean, worn a few times. The gal researching the shoes was loud and obnoxious, yelling at me saying the shoes where 'over two years old and we don't want them'. Could've said no thank you with her inside voice and I would've been okay with it.. I felt embarrassed! However, while I was waiting for the gal to google, eBay, or whatever it was she was doing, I asked another associate if she could tell me where the hats where because I was looking for a fedora to complete a costume. She waved her hand and yelled 'our costumes are over there'. Okaayyyy.. Platos closet hires immature kids to run the store which is unfortunate because it seems like a nice place. I brought in 2 full trash bags worth of clothes plus a milk crate full of shoes and many other loose articles. They were name brands like Columbia, North Face, Nike, Reebok, and Adidas items. NOT 1 item was purchased by them! I was given the excuse that my items were more than 1-1.5 years old and some had the tiniest of stains. So what is the purpose of a store like this if it's only looking for clothes that were basically never worn and/or still have tags attached?? Many people would like to have these items at a discounted price.
