I love Gilligan's. It's the perfect dive bar before going out in Scottsdale, for a Sunday Funday, catching a game, or just hanging out with friends. They have an outdoor patio, and the vibe is chaotic in the best way. Lights everywhere, swing at the bar, music playing, sports on TV, and people just having a good time. One of the funnier things they have is the shot wheel. You spin it and whatever it lands on is the shot you get. It used to be $5 but now it's $6... inflation I guess The bartenders have always been kind every time I've gone, drinks come out quick, and it's one of those places that doesn't try too hard but still ends up being a memorable stop every time. Bathrooms were clean enough for a dive bar and the whole place just has a laid-back, no-pressure energy. If they added another swing, I'd probably be there all day. I frequent Gilligan's sister bar, Castaways, at least once a week, and they consistently deliver. The food at both is great, but what really stands out is the staff. Xavier, in particular, is an absolute gem and Giligans is lucky to have him. He was attentive, calm, and genuinely pleasant, even while managing the pressure of a busy night. I had a situation with a few other patrons that I won't get into, but Xavier handled it professionally and with real composure. Both Castaways and Gilligan's have excellent bar staff (who often rotate between the two), fairly priced drinks, great food, and an easy, welcoming vibe. My friends and I randomly stumbled upon this gem on a Tuesday evening and to our surpise, they had trivia! Since then, we've been coming every Tuesday, and each visit has been a blast. We've always made friends, whether with the staff, locals, or people from out of town. Xander, one of the bartenders, and Kevin, who runs trivia on Tuesdays, are some of the coolest and most genuine people you'll ever meet. The bar has a quirky charm with Christmas lights everywhere, a cool random swing, and a unique drink wheel you can spin (for a fee). The bar food is pretty good, my friends and I usually get the "build your own sampler" and they really fill that tray up. It's reasonably priced, just like the drinks. I've also tried their sandwhiches, which are huge and delicious! Its always a fun time at Gilis! Whether it's Halloween, Christmas, sports, or our favorite TRIVIA NIGHT, you definitely need to check this place out if you're in town. 10/10 recommend! read more

It's been a minute since I've been to a party in a bar. We appreciated that they reserved a few tables for our party - we had about 20 people. The venue is fun but not very large. Lots of twinkle lights. They do have a nice patio setting (best after dark). Service was very slow - they did not have floor service - you have to go to the bar to order. When we arrived at 5:45 on a Friday night, there was only one bar server. It took my husband over a half hour to get to order our drinks. They finally opened a second station. We had a few snacks - wings, onion rings, pretzels, fried pickles. Fairly decent. The servers were very nice, just way under-staffed. Appreciated a rep providing a few Patron shots for the guest of honor and friends. Overall, a fun place. read more

Stopped by on a Friday afternoon for a happy hour with my co workers. This is the bar you have been looking for. Not only do they have anything you could ever want to drink, but it feels like home. You know that whiskey you have seen online and been wanting to try? Well, they have it. They have stuff you have never even heard of. Came here for a drink after dinner after seeing the cool pics online. It was game 4 of the World Series but the place was about 30% full. I sit down at the bar and am not getting service but notice a line of people at the other end of the bar. A bartender gets within about 20 ft of me and I motion to my seat or to the line (I'm genuinely not sure how it works). He just stares at me,,,i do it again and he just stares. Finally he takes this big breath like I'm interrupting him and he says some negative thing. I'm irritated but go stand in line. They had amaaazing decorations for St. Patrick's day too on the Monday of (and probably the whole weekend) with the whole ceiling covered in small green flakes and outside deck area decked out too. Super picturesque. Lots of people from college students to grandpas having the time of their lives, guys girls everyone. Pretty crowded inside but not too crowded, still space to chill by the bar and occasionally seating would free up. Not much dancing more talking and drinking having a good time. I don't remember what type of music they were playing but it went along well with the place. Comfortable seating outside and then you can people watch who comes in through the door! No Sunday Funday at Giligins!! Ok so I have been going to Giligins for the last 10 years and just this holiday season 5 or 6 times. Being from downtown Chicago but a Packer Fan. We went to Clancys ( Packer bar) for the Packer game then I wanted to introduce a buddy (Ex Ranger) to Giligin's! On our 2nd round of buying 12 year old bourbon and talking to Bear fans next to the bar, a female Giligin worker came up and asked us to move because others couldn't see the TV in front of us.....even thought there were TV's to the left and right of us showing the Bears game..I said No since we were in conversation with other Bear Fans and talking about how Chicago has become a sh-t show...then this 6'6 Neanderthal came up and took the beer out of my hand and and very rudely told us we had to leave! He then chest bumped me and being 6'3 265, I didn't move and my buddy could have easily taken him but it wasn't worth it....he them threaten to call the cops....not sure why and as we were leaving told us not to come back to HIS bar!! Gilligins is by far my favorite dive bar In Scottsdale. They have a wide variety of alcohol and great specials every day. They also have happy hour every day . They actually have a really great food menu. Their popcorn shrimp and corn dogs are two of my favorites. Their shot wheel is entertaining and on holidays like Halloween and st Patrick's day they have an annual block party. They're also a Chicago beers bar. They have karaoke on Sundays and a large outdoor patio with comfortable seating. Service is always great , I've never had a complaint about that over the past decade. read more

Just discovered this little hidden gem in Old Town Scottsdale! Though not quite a real Tiki Bar, it has some Tiki Elements. The beer selection is decent, but the Karaoke is just shy of intolerable. I'll start with the good news--the decor was on point! Super festive and fun, and my first thought was, "Wow, this is a cute spot!"... But oh, how quickly things took a turn. We stopped in here after going to the Van Gogh experience across the street. It was so loud inside that you can barely hear yourself think, much less what anyone else is saying. The place was VERY crowded, that alone is uncomfortable for me personally. At first, we just turned around and walked out. I happened to see a menu on a bench on the patio and picked it up. After seeing the menu, we decided to stick around and give the place a shot. There is no table service, you have to do all drink and food orders up at the bar and leave your credit card there for a tab if you so choose. Whenever you are finished, you need to go back to the bar to pay your tab and retrieve your card. My husband and I ordered a drink, mine was overfilled and spilled as I was walking away. To avoid the packed crowd, we sat outside on the patio, thankfully it was a nice evening. We both ordered the Italian sub meal with a bag of chips. Had we known how large the sub was, we would have just split one order. The meal was a bit overpriced, however, the sub was delicious. I could barely eat half of it. My kids really enjoyed the leftovers! We stayed for about an hour and watched highly intoxicated patrons make fools of themselves, inside and out. It was entertaining.
