This was my first time trying Playa before, and it was a pretty decent experience. There was quite a long line, which was understandable since it was Saturday, but the staff really hustled to take and make orders quickly! I loved the murals inside and I wish I got better pictures to share here! It was a fun beachy vibe in there, that made me feel like I was someplace else, which felt really good! I ordered a small Aloha smoothie with honey in it. It was super tasty and a great consistency! I really enjoyed the smoothie itself, just not the fact that it was $10. It was a nice treat and much enjoyed on the hot day, but I don't think I'd ever become a frequent visitor due to the pricing. I would like to try their juice sometime as well, and I am curious if they offer samples. Stopped in to get brunch after another place was overcrowded. I'm a big Acai bowl fan and this is one of the best spots in Pittsburgh for it. The power bowl is my go to. It's loaded up with protein and chocolate chips. Always a great choice and super fast. read more

Wow. I'm not usually a huge fan of chain shops, but this one has to be the exception. The bowls here are just so excellent and so fresh. It might be my favorite smoothie bowl spot in Pittsburgh. I got to try their Playa passion fruit bowl with a few toppings. It was amazing. Great portion for a pretty reasonable price. The base was perfectly sweet, and you can tell you use real passion fruit instead of just syrup. The toppings were also super fresh and delicious. Fresh pineapple, fresh strawberries, delicious whipped cream or something similar to it. Just excellent. I would highly recommend it! read more

I absolutely love Playa Bowls. This bright, colorful, highly Instagrammable location has only been in town for a couple of months but I have stopped by often because the bowls are fantastic. There is a wall of infinite combination possibilities, and if you have a hard time choosing just one base you can get two in the same bowl. You can choose a bowl combo that sounds pretty much like what you want but ask them to change it up in whatever way suits you, and they are extremely helpful in making sure you get exactly what you want. The staff here is also fantastic about moving through lines they can get relatively long at peak times very quickly. These make for a very filling, delicious meal you can feel good about. They also have fresh pressed juice and oatmeals. I've tried the juice and it's fine, although I must say I like some other local providers better. I can't stop getting the wonderful bowls, with base options like banana, coconut, açai and pitaya (dragonfruit), topped with colorful fruit and granola and a squeeze of Nutella, but at some point during the cold winter months I look forward to finally giving the oatmeals a try. We got the electric mermaid pitaya bowl with half açaí. They were excellent with adjustments to the bowl and substitutes for the toppings without any extra charge. We did go during a time when it was busier so the line was all the way to the door but the bowl was still made in a reasonable time. I am obsessed with Playa Bowls! Somehow these are the best smoothies and açaí bowls I've had, honestly. Super flavorful and all the right consistencies (not too watery or too thick). The Dolce Smoothie is really good -- banana, chocolate protein, PB, & coconut milk. I also have had the Nutella açaí bowl and it is excellent. I absolutely love Playa since I had them back home in Jersey. They are still new and opened last week so the staff is still figuring it out. Service is a bit slow but they are trying their best.
