Thank you Yelp for helping me find this place. I was looking for a good mariscos place in the SGV, and this place was out of this world. My Spanish is pretty horrendous, and the wait staff had to call someone in the kitchen to help take my order. My friend had ordered the salmon and was delicious. Really simple grilled preparation with primarily salt and pepper. I really wanted ceviche, and they had several to choose from. I chose the ceviche nayarit, which I assumed was their house special. The ceviche is made to order, because my shrimp were pretty large pieces and still grey and 'cooking' in the lime broth during our time there. I give it 4 stars only because every time my family Orders the charolas de ceviche to go it seems like theirs more onion in their then pescado or Camaron ! Don't understand me wrong I love their ceviche ! It's so good and never dry , And the salsa that they give you to go Is so good with those chips they offer you ! Just sometimes .... Ok so ive been twice in less than a month, that should tell you how good this place is! The place is small and gets pretty busy pn sundays. I prefer to sit out back in the patio with the lil bands that come to play music for you. The service is great, fast, very attentive and always have a smile on them. The prices are pretty reasonable anywhere from $45-$51 bucks gets you a bucket of beer, two big portions of bomb mariscos. You will see me here again and again :) read more

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... how I wish we had one of these in San Diego.... sigh..... Anyways, back to the review. Food ordered (we ordered for 4, but we could have fed like 6, maybe even 8 easily): Ceviche de Nayarit 8.5/10 - Very solid ceviche... this thing is also huge. True, it's like $20, but the plate was HUUUUUGE. This can easily be shared by about 5 people... lol. Caldo de Siete Mares 9/10 - This thing is excellent! It even had a HUGE half lobster inside this thing. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended. I'm a little biased as I'm a huge soup person, but this is amazing. So much seafood in this thing, and really tasty. Filete de Tilapia Zarandiado 8/10 - This is also HUUUGE. It was so big it was served on a metal tray instead of a plate. On the plate was straight up 3 gigantic tilapia filets grilled. The fish was really tasty. Rice and beans were just so-so, but that's hardly a big enough criticism to pan this. Lots and lots of fresh tortillas 8/10 - FREEEEEEEEEEE so much tortilla. So good. Decor: Typical old looking mexican restaurant. Pretty standard for these types of joints. The patio where was sat was nice and cool. Service: Very nice servers. Great place to have seafood. Traditional Mexican seafood place. Waitresses are very good with attending to you. Great selection of different seafood plates. Had the Tostada Mixta. Very tasty. When you get a chance on a warm day, make it to the patio in the back feels good and fits the meal. Parking kinda sucks but you could park on the street, just be mindful of the cholos around there. Went to a party about a week ago & had some decent tasting ceviche, found out where they got it & decided to go have lunch there today. I Ordered the $16 7 mares ( sea food soup ) expecting to be impressed but was sadly disappointed :(( The waitress asked how I liked it so I let her know that It was over cooked & couldn't eat it because it was to rubbery to chew, to which she said nothing and didn't offer an alternative. I have been coming for years now. Before it was my go to place to eat all kinds of ceviche but now it's a completely different taste. I came with my mother two months ago the ceviche de Camaron and de pescado was raw af and wasn't cooked in lime/lemon juice ( like how it's supposed to be cooked) more like it was left in water overnight. Last month I ordered a molcajete and it was missing two types of meat. They claimed it doesn't come with the order but the picture on the menu proved otherwise. Finally, today yet another disappointment. Fish and shrimp was raw. Like to a point where you can not eat it. Found a hair on salsa and the carne asada was over cooked and tasteless. This place has the best ceviche de pescado I have ever had. For years I have been eating the fish ceviche at this restaurant because it is delicious and has chunks of fish, but last time I ordered it, I was looking for the fish, it had lots of onion, tomatoes and cucumbers but just a little fish. That's why I am giving them only two stars. I sincerely hope they take this into consideration and put fish on the ceviche, otherwise I will call it vegetales ceviche. read more

Second visit review. Had a horrible experience the second time I came. First the restaurant had a 7 piece Banda band, who when they played you couldn't talk or hear. My friend and I had to move in order to hear each other talk. Last time I came, there was a 3 piece band which was okay for a small restaurant. But a 7 piece band in a small restaurant makes no sense. Second, the ceviche was not great this time. I ordered a tostada of Cameron Picado and pulpo. Too much pulpo and the shrimp was old, you could tell by the freshness of tomato. On a plus, the portions are big. Didn't enjoy my experience and my friend was also disappointed and had a stomach ache, First visit review. I've been here once or twice whenever 7mardes is closed, and a few time with my parents. Food isn't always that good, yet it's not bad. Last Sunday though, I had their oysters. A friend and I ordered two dozen of them. Let's just say it was a bad choice. From the moment they served us our food, the oysters looked questionable. But we were craving them, so we just continued .... big mistake.... That following week I started getting symptoms like having to use the restroom 5 to 6 times a day.... I wasn't sure what caused this, but then I got a text the following Wednesday from my friend who had gone with me to this seafood place. He texted "hey berns, have you been feeling shitty?" I quickly replied, "yes.... it was the seafood :(..." the same on Thursday, I had to Miss work and see a doctor..... I missed work for three days.... friend missed work for two days..... I think this was the last time I order oysters from this place... In their defense, my girlfriend had their cocktail and she didn't get sick. Although she didn't like the food, she didn't get sick. Placed a phone order and then showed up 30 minutes later to pickup my food. Paid then got a pink receipt and the lady pointed to the other side for me to do take the receipt to get my order. Go there like a dummy, there's a line, wait like 15 minutes in line , same lady that charged me at the front comes and takes the receipt. She then tells me to sit and wait for my order. It's seems that she scrambles and talks to some lady cook and they begin putting my order together. After about 20 minutes my order is ready. Customer service is non existent here. Food was horrible. Worst fucken place to get any soup (caldo) They sell you old shit preheated, one of the workers actually had the nerve to tell me after the sell that all of their food is precooked not from the same day but old. I ordered a total of $70 of shrimp ceviche today and couldn't even get a whole bag of tostadas. You do not get any limes with your order, you have to buy them seperetaley; salsa, you get a miserable little cup. Everything you ask for extra, they charge you for. My mom, sister and I came to have lunch but the 1st impression that my mom had was negative. The server was so rude, 2nd, I asked for a straw, and the other server try to feed me BS about Ca law. That they are not allowed. ( I had to stop her and correct her) explained to her that the law say that the restaurant should not provide straws, unless and only upon requested by the customers. 3rd, what did it for me is that the guys that come and play here should not be allowed to play. This is the second time here... the first time I came we had great service. This time we came we had the sorest service ever.... we couldn't get the waitress to come over to our table... She only came once to check on us and when we asked for napkins (since she didn't give us any from the moment we sat down) she brought them to our table when we're half ways finished with our food. My step dad came here to get us dinner and he ordered 3 burritos and asked that they only had meat inside, no onions, no rice, no beans. He was charged $4.00 extra per burrito and when he got home we saw that all the burritos had rice, beans, and pico de gallo. This place is completely disgusting ! I went with a girlfriend to pick up some lunch and after paying for my tostada of ceviche de pescado, they redirected us to a smaller kitchen area where they sold and served all the fish products. First of all, once we walked in we noticed the cold fish products were directly in the heat of the sun since the second entrance to the restaurant is about 2 feet away from the fish products. Secondly, my friend noticed that ALL of the employees serving food were grabbing the food and serving it with their bare hands! Wiping the excess on their jeans and filthy clothes!! When I asked the gentleman if he was wearing gloves, right after we clearly saw he wasn't, he rudely replied with "I'm not touching YOUR food" as he kept picking up shrimp with his dirty hand. I then looked over the counter and saw that NO ONE was wearing gloves and that it was DISGUSTINGLY dirty on the counters, shelves and floor!! I went to the manager and asked him why his employees were not wearing gloves and he said "their supposed to wear gloves and I will walk back there to reassure you they are." I then walked ahead of him and found the first guy putting gloves on and I asked him to please dump my food. He aggressively went on to make another order and threw it at me! I was so disgusted, that I ended up throwing it away! He was the only man working the back counter however, all the other female servers were running to grab gloves when they heard the manager coming to the back. Sea food is already a very delicate food when it comes to eating it, but then to have it sitting right under the SUN and picking it up with your filthy bare hands?? If you are looking for real Mexican style Ceviches where the fish is not ever put to a flame and where they let the lemon do the same thing that heating will do (hopefully those places that preheat their shrimp before marinating it in lemon are listening) this is where you will find some of the best renditions in So Cal. BTW, Central and South American ceviches are a little different. When the waitress comes by the first must order is a Michelada. They'll ask you which kind of beer and I order it with a Modelo which is one of my favorites with just a few limes and some salt but really it doesn't matter what kind of beer it's mixed with it will still be ridiculously good. Now when they ask for your drink order it doesn't mean you go ahead and order all of your food. It means you JUST ORDER DRINKS (even if it's 10 minutes since you sat down dammit!. When the drinks come back THEN you may order. When they come back with your drinks and you do order then you have time to savor your Michelada and work on gettin' your buzz on. When you order make sure you order all of your extras at that time. They don't want to be coming back to your table every ten seconds getting you more plates, forks, napkins...you get the point. Why? Because if you had to work in those super tight skirts you wouldn't want to be making more trips than you had to either would you? Now then, let's get to the meat of the experience here. First thing that will pair well with your Michelada is the Aquachile. What the hell is that you ask? Well it's a giant plate of ceviche that has been cooked in lemon juice then onions, cucumbers and salt have been added to make a perfect combination of flavors after which you will KNOW what a good ceviche is. That being said, every other ceviche on the menu is just as mouth watering. Aside from the items that haven't been cooked with heat there are plenty of authentic Mexican plates that are also just as appealing. Their fish tacos are first put together then the whole thing is fried not just the fish. A fabulous twist that most will keep coming back for. Some of the other items to try are the fried fish skin apps that go perfect with your MIchelada as well as their typical Mexican dishes like the "cocteles" that are either shrimp, fish or campechanas (a mix of everything) and are wonderfully traditional and excellent. Be sure to ask for extra tostadas as IMO they are better with everything than the chips. FYI, be prepared for loud music and Mariachi bands coming up to you table and asking for requests which you'll have to pay for by the song. A quick nod yes or no is all they'll need to either entertain you or to continue moving along. There's a dine-in area and a take-out area. For $25 (no tax!) we got four pounds of shrimp/fish ceviche, a bag of tostadas, chips, salsa, and limes. Enough to feed 3-4 people. Great portions. When you order a shrimp cocktail, you get a shrimp cocktail. Not a tomatoe/onion filled dish. Ceviche (fish) is good including the agua chiles.
