Not a bad spot. It is typical/average bar food and bar selection, BUT, what makes this place different is the staff. There are a LOT of regulars here, and the staff knows them all by name. I met a colleague for an off-campus business meeting and ordered the Cuban and a beer. The sandwich was a little tired (bad day for the cook, maybe?), but the beer was cold, and the service was great. We even met the owner who was taking a minute from the kitchen to eat dinner--a very nice guy who seems to love his bar. It's not 5-star, but I will gladly go back if I'm in the area and looking for a spot to re-hydrate my liver. read more

This is your typical sports bar with a decent food selection. They have huge variety on their menu and daily specials Monday - Friday for around $8. I had a fish sandwich on Friday night. It was huge portion of fish and you chose if it is fried or not. They also have trivia on Thursdays, stage for musicians and some tvs around the bar, but they aren't positioned very comfortably. read more

I have NEVER had such bad service. Three times I had to ask the manager for our "waitress." Each time she did come to the table she said she'd be right back. One interval was 40 minutes. What a sneaky surprise brunch place! I help run a book club and one of our members recommended this place, which I had vaguely heard of, as a venue for books and brunch. I had my doubts, but he was pretty persuasive and I booked their private room with fingers crossed. Turns out we should have been coming here all the time all along! The restaurant's private room is seriously private, with a small hallway cutting off noise from the main sports bar area and still enough room to comfortably seat sixteen in a big square. And I don't know about the regular food, but the brunch menu is huge choice-wise, huge portion-wise, and hugely cheap. I got the George big breakfast with 2 eggs, a heaping helping of potatoes, and 2 giant crispy bacon slices for less than $7, and although I wolfed my breakfast down most of my fellow readers took some of their giant meals home with them. Now that I know this place is here I will definitely be recommending it for every group brunch date I make! read more

Wife and I stopped by a couple weeks ago looking for a quick meal. I ordered the fish sub with onion rings and my wife had the Ruben. My meal was excellent. Fish was perfectly prepared and onion rings were wonderful. The Ruben was also excellent, the corned beef was tender and flavorful, not fatty or stringy. We found Players Grill almost by accident when some friends were late getting into town [for my birthday - a welcome surprise!] and we needed to find a meal after 10pm. The food was good, the waitresses were down to earth and fun--we ended up having a blast and closing the place down. We've been back a dozen times since and have never left unhappy. Players Grille is a straight up the middle sports bar [don't let the 'e' at the end of 'Grill' fool you.] Other than the large amount of jerseys and trophies the decor is mainly made up of TV screens. They have several projection screens and flat screens, even little TV's in most of the booths. The food is really pretty good, even if the menu leans heavily in the fried foods direction. I would recommend this place either for watching the big game or taking a large group out for lunch. The beer flows freely, the wings are hot and spicy, and the people are always having a good time. I have never been to such an out of date sports bar...The wife and I recently moved to San Marco area from Riverside and had never been to Players. It was seat yourself which I believe accounts for the delay in service it took 12 mins for someone to finally acknowledge us. We had come for a specific game that was showing on ESPN. We started watching it and all of suddenly the channel started to change by itself and ended up on another ESPN channel showing another game, right in the middle of the first quarter. I had to get up to find out if someone could assist because we could not locate the specific channel using the remote. Well the remotes are apparently not setup for the specific channel we needed so as we clicked through it never came up. Well we ended up with a very attitude filled waitress (Heavyset) that told us we had to manually put the channel into the remote, because the remote skipped over it, when it finally came up it was so blurry. Not pleasant. Then luckily a very helpful manager ( I am assuming came over) and assisted got us to the correct channel. I must in all fairness state the food was pretty good and so was our waiter (Sean) the beer was inexpensive. So this maybe a good place to have appetizers and drinks but skip on an enjoyable evening of watching sports on their antiquated system. Players is everything a good, family-friendly sports bar should be. At Players, if you can't find something to satisfy your tastes - for both good bar grub and fun - you need to check yourself. Menu is essentially your typical bar fare, but everything is quite good. The wings are big, meaty, and tasty, and just about anything out of the fryer is pretty good. The corn nuggets are so good, you'll want to get them every time you go. Salads are nice and big, and burgers are tasty. Screens big and small are everywhere, so you'll always be able to find your game, or the staff will turn it on for you. Each booth has its own small TV, which you can tune yourself. Check their schedule for nightly events. You can play live poker on Wed, Sat, & Sun nights and win house prizes. Thursday nights are team trivia, and check for other fun stuff. There's also online trivia games on the TV that are always fun. There's a gameroom for the kiddies, and video games (golf, poker, etc.) for the bigger kids. We've tried to enjoy this place twice. The first time, we sat down and waited for about 5 minutes without any acknowledgement at all. It was not crowded, not close to closing.. (or any other excuse to prove bad service... )the staff looked at us and then just seemed to pretend we weren't there so we walked out and went elsewhere. We just tried again and the service was not any better, probably would have been better had they ignored us again. I ordered an orange juice and vodka and it tasted like some sort of medicine, but it was actually the best tasting thing we were served. Do not recommend the chicken parm, or the cheesesteak, or the orange medicine, or anything at all. I think the good reviews are locals who started going there when it was good and forgot what good tasted like. This place has vibes like Applebees and the local flea market deli got together and made a mistake. Sorry. So many better places to be. read more

No sure where to start...the service, food and atmosphere were all below average especially for lunch time and there only being 10 patrons in the restaurant. Searched online for good buffalo chicken sandwiches and their name came up, but that was by far the worst buffalo chicken sandwich that i have had. Service was slow and food was way below average. Chicken breast barely covered half of the garlic toast and there was barely any sauce, bacon i added for $2 was old and cold. This trip to Players was an aberration. Normally, we get 5 star food and service. This trip, was closer to 3 stars. We sat with another couple who ordered some boiled Cajun peanuts which took a long time to come out of the kitchen. I ordered the 2 eggs over easy, country fried steak and potatoes, rye toast breakfast. The breakfasts took over 25 minutes to come out. When they did, my eggs were over hard, with no liquid yolk at all. The toast was cold so it'd been sitting a while. The steak was cooked perfectly and nice and tender. I sent the eggs back. The second set came out fine. The wife asked for 2 scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon and an English muffin cooked well. The Canadian bacon came out like shoe leather and the English muffin was barely toasted. The 2nd set of bacon came out right and they re-toasted the English muffin. Our friends we met had lunch of twice grilled wings & an order of nachos. Both came out GREAT. We probably should have followed their lead and had lunch, because it's usually great. The brunch was pretty much a fail which is a shame because the country fried steak was excellent. read more

I highly recommend Players. My family and I have been going here since they were babies and we have had quite a number of their birthdays celebrated there. The staff is consistent and they really get to know you. It is truly a 'family joint' where the parents can grab a beer and the kids can get half price kids meals on a set day of the week. Sports are huge here on the big screen TV's along with the TV's at the tables. The owner, Rose, is incredibly personable and if you are in there more than a few times she will know your name and you will be fast friends. Personally I love the wings and the fries(crinkle cut). She also has different selection/specials each day and Kibbie with hummus day was one of my favorites. The drink cups are large and filled frequently, which counts when you just ate a dozen hot wings.... I have probably had every single item on that menu and have never complained or sent anything back. You will be safe trying anything but DO get those crinkle fries. Oh how I love them. I was at a point of going to Player's 2 sometimes 3 times a week and was able to have an entirely different feel of a meal each time. Yes, there will be your standard faire of bar food but she has a varied menu that will make you forget you are in a sports bar. Couldn't recommend them more. They have the best American food in town (you can even get Arabic kibbee on Wednesdays, or other great American specials daily). It's a family bar where you can enjoy the bar side, or a quiet evening with your family. All of the staff is so accommodating, even in the kitchen. If you ever have any issues they will be quick to solve them for you and understanding. Sean, Libbey, Mirian, Sarah, and Shannon are amazing bartenders and the servers are great too!! Players grill is pretty good, with a wide selection of foods to choose from. I would recommend the nachos as an app, because they're LOADED and the plate it comes on is massive. The wings are good as well. The only problem I have is the service. The waiters can be somewhat difficult occasionally. It also takes a while for the food to come out. I've been coming to Players Grille ever since Elementary school. It used to be the hot spot for me and my friends (and our parents) on the weekend, and I seriously have some of my best childhood memories from this place. I've always thought the food was pretty good...could have been better, though. Us kids never cared about eating though because we were always having the times of our lives in the game room which has since been closed down which really upsets me since it was pretty much the best reason for going there.There's also little personal TV's at each table and you can play trivia, which was also always fun. Beware! We live near to Players Grille in San Marco and visited there a lot. Several months ago on a week night my wife ordered a loaded baked potato with her dinner. When she dug in to the potato she noticed something very ugly inside of it. Under the cheese, sour cream, bacon, etc. was what looked like a Dead Animal about 4 inches long and an inch and a half round... about the size of a large Baby Ruth bar. We could not tell what it was. It did not look like potato rot. Someone in the kitchen had to see this when preparing the dish. It was colored green and black. We were all horrified. We immediately called over the server who took it away with an apology. We messed up by not taking a photo of this abomination. All she said was the Manager would take it off our bill. Surprisingly No one came over to us or offered any kind of apology or explanation. We paid our bill and left our dinner immediately. We will NEVER go back and never recommend this restaurant to anyone! Beware! read more

We sat down and ordered our drinks and food, Waited 44 minutes until we got food, 30 minutes until we got drinks and the reason was there was a dish they was cooking, Didn't know it took 20 minutes for each plate, And it wasn't even busy after 5 minutes, Then we had no silverware so we had to eat with our fingers but two of us had sandwiches and one got steak and the one that got steak had silverware but we typically eat fries and such with forks to dip them in sauce, Also they gave one of us chips instead of fries and I got fries instead of chips, Also I got chedder and swiss on my sandwich when I ordered just swiss but that was okay, We came at 7:16 PM and left a 9:10 PM, Matter what you do, Do Not Get Served By A Brown Haired Female Named Jordan. read more

I wanted to write and say how kind and wonderful all of the staff at Players Grille was yesterday to my family, especially to my son on his 5th birthday. He loves the games at Players as well as the smoked wings, so we had a casual family party there. We called in advance and arrived to reserved tables decorated with balloons, little Happy Birthday print-outs with Skittles on them. The entire staff was attentive, incredibly accommodating to all of our needs, providing a lighter for the candle, serving pieces for the cake, extra plates, etc. Sonila was our waitress and she even took pictures and sent them to me after the party. I can't say enough great things about how kind everyone was to my entire family and to my son. Thank you Players for helping us make a very casual family gathering a wonderful, fun and great birthday for my son! read more

Great neighborhood hangout! Wings are great, staff is friendly, and Rose makes you feel at home. I am comfortable bringing my kids here, even in the early evening to catch a football game or celebrate a baseball game win from their nearby HABL park.
