Our family has been going to the Dock Landing Plaza Azteca location since 2005. Ali and the great staff have seen my daughters grow from elementary school kids into young adults. We always feel welcomed and appreciated. The best word I can use to describe the food and service there is - consistent. We know that we are going to get a good product with good service. I think the best valued item in the entire area is the Fajitas for Two. $26 for an unbelievable amount of food. More like Fajitas for Four :) The restaurant is always clean and inviting. They have also stepped up and adjusted during this Covid-19 shutdown and been so quick with takeout and delivery. Wonderful experience . They sit you down always almost as soon as you arrive. Your server comes out like 2 min later and brings you warm fresh tortilla chips with white sauce and salsa . The white sauce is a Virginia made items dm will ONLY be seen in this area at the Mexican restaurants . I ordered the enchiladas suizas withe beans and rice . My food came out literally , 10 min later and it was fresh and hot . Eye will never return! They lost a long time loyal customer. Eye have never been treated so poorly by staff in a restaurant ever. The young woman with the face piercings was mad and very hostile because Eye had to return an order of fajita nachos. It's like chill it's just food, a minor miscommunication. She took it upon herself to go the extra mile and gave me fajita soup. Because Eye complained that it didn't have enough cheese. So it had little to no chips in sight with the remade order. All because Eye said it wasn't enough cheese. So when Eye returned the 3rd time to show the manager Eye wasn't exaggerating she was there smiling like (ha) So Eye informed the manager about that behavior as well as the 2nd encounter. He tried to make excuses for her even though he wasn't there, instead of saying he would speak to her about it. So yeah Eye'm over them! And Eye know me declining to ever come back isn't gonna hurt your business. But if you continue to let your staff treat people poorly you will lose more than this loyal customer. And Eye will be contacting better business bureau! Have the day you deserve sweetie. And you can thank your employee with that face piercings she's lucky Eye didn't get her name. Wife and I love this place, one of our favorite places for lunch. The staff is always polite and on point. When the weather is nice the patio is a great place to sit and enjoy a drink and conversation while waiting for your food. The free salsa and chips are a plus, one of the best salsas in the area. Came here on a Friday night after the gym. Didn't have any food prepared and was starving. This was on the way home so we stopped. Parking lot was pretty full so we knew there would be a wait. The hostess gave us a 20 minute wait but it was more like 10 so not too bad. Ive been to Plaza on Holland Road tons of times but this was my first time at this location. I usually always get the same thing (San Jose burrito) but since I am following a Keto diet I had to get something different. I decided on the Texas Fajitas and I requested to have the white cheese that comes on the burrito put on my fajitas. Not only was my request accommodated they didn't charge me for the difference. This review is for dinner 2/2/17 Molcajete Azteca is something new we tried off the menu, and we were blown away. A volcano bowl filled with tender ribeye, chicken, shrimp, roasted poblano, pineapple, mixed with a special el pastor sauce that is full on flavor yet still manages to feel quite light on the tongue, although I am certain it's not light on calories. Wow! So incredibly tasty. 5/5 My husband I split this special dish, using about 6 tortillas total between us, and a side of freshly made guacamole to add to the wrap. The guacamole was a touch off this time, needing ample salt and lime juice. It also lacked heat. Plaza usually does much better with the table side guac so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. 4/5 The Molcajete Azteca dish is $25, enough for two and a total delight for date night. Value for the money 5/5 Service was also spot on. Not too much yet completely attentive. Better than several higher end places we've been to lately. I drink a lot of water. Mexican that's somewhat better than mexican is about as far as I will go with this place. When going out to eat and thinking Mexican food you generally have a preconceived notion on what to expect. Those things are: 1. Chips w/ salsa 2. Fast service 3. Lots of food choices that is often hard to tell the difference. If this is you then, read this review. 1. The salsa is rather delicious. Not too hot and has some good substance to it. 2. The service doesn't disappoint. As expected, yes it comes to your table with you going: "wow that was fast". 3. There is your typical blend of food choices but they also have some unique dishes accompanied with a vegetarian menu. To top all that, they do serve fresh guac, and occasionally have a roaming band that plays jokes on people and do some funny songs (nice touch). The facility is very clean and they do have a very nice outdoor patio area that gives spots of sun such that you don't feel like you're getting beamed 100%. The only thing I don't like about the facility is that the walking areas are very narrow. The guac station takes up easily 4/5ths of the walkway and makes it real tight if people are trying to get around. They also have a bar here. I haven't hung out at the bar area but from an outside perspective, it does look nice and bar-esque enough to not be trashy but a cool place to chill. Came here with a birthday party tonight. We had a very good waiter. He was very polite. I think his name was Elio. The customer service was fine. Especially with the big party today. My issue was not with the service, it was with the food. I ordered the number 19 combo as did my best friend. It was two chicken enchiladas, rice and beans. The enchiladas didn't have enough sauce. The chicken was extremely dry and the rice was bland. I am extremely picky when it comes to Mexican cuisine. Especially being from California. The chips and salsa were delicious. This was a evening with family and friends. The food was very good and the drinks oh my the drink I had was an organic Margarita it was so large and it was so good very tasty my grandson had the shrimp and chicken fajitas they were very tasty as well everybody had so much food for your money. Acoustics was great, the television of course was tuned to football. The waiter and waitresses were very nice. the place was very clean. Even though it was very BUSY EVERYTHING WAS VERY ORGANIZED. Well appreciated that the bathrooms were neat and clean. The management was very professional when you came in the door they greeted you with a nice hello. I'm going to have to dock Plaza Azteca a star because while I understand prices need to increase over time, they pulled a fast one: New menu came out, then, it came out again with higher prices. What used to be $9.50 is now $11.00. Prices have gone up, and unfortunately, that means we can't come as frequently as we used to. Plaza Azteca has gone from a once to twice a week dine for us to once every two weeks. I love the place and the staff and food so I hate to see it, but what used to be a great value for the money has become "a little pricey" IMHO. I like the decor and the high semi-private booths. The carne asada tacos were large with filled lots of tasty steak, onions and cilantro. The fish tacos were a big disappoint. The biggest problem with them was that they lacked flavor. They were super bland. The beans and rice were enjoyable and served hot. I would go back but never order the fish tacos again. Tried something new on the menu. It was delicious! They have a Philly steak burrito. It's so good. Steak,cheese,mushrooms, and green peppers. The food came out rather quickly as usual. Our waiter was friendly. We never have bad service when we eat here and the food is always good. I should note that the burrito didn't come with rice or beans, so if u want that you will have to add it. Update to my review: I went this evening to Plaza Azteca and had some wonderful food. The Camerones Gratinados (appetizer with shrimp and onions and cheese) were delicious! They were glad to add fresh cilantro too. I ordered the Pescado Azteca. It was Mahi-Mahi with Shrimp and Mushrooms and a wine sauce with mashed potatos. The dish came out looking very white - covered with white sauce and the mashed potoatos were white. Being into photography and eating - I thought it looked bland. After taking a few bites - I was in heaven. The Mahi-Mahi was cooked perfect with some good spices. The shrimp were plump and tasty. The mushrooms were full of great flavor. The sauce was delicious with a great flavor from the wine and the spices. I loved the dish. It's presentation could use some work. I passed on the the Managment that it was too good a dish to drown and bury in white sauce. I suggested putting a drizzle of sauce on top and more around the fish. I also mentioned some cilantro or a slice of lime will help dress the dish up. (I've posted a photo of the dish on here) Great flavor - a shame it looked like a white-out in Alaska. This will not deter me from my next visit. Plaza Azteca in Western Branch of Chesapeake on Dock Landing Road is my favorite Mexican place in the area. I have been here many times. I thought I had already reviewed it. I went there today with my wife and son Chris and we had a great meal. I was in the mood for something light and got the Azteca Salad. It had Chicken and Shrimp and it had a great spicy kick and was most awesome and probably one of the healthiest dishes I've had here. (I've posted photo's of most all of my dishes.) My son had a veggie dish (Enchiladas Trio) and his looked and - according to him tasted outstanding. My wife had the Fajita Taco Salad and she loved it. (It looked great also). The wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. I love the Camerones Gratinados appetizer. (Shrimp and cheese with onions) and I had the idea one day - It would be great with Chorizo and fresh cilantro on top. They fixed it for me like that and I've since had it numerous times - what an amazing flavor and how great to get a custom dish. I love the shrimp tacos. I also love the Chori-Pollo - Chorizo with Chicken. I have had many dishes here that have blown my socks off. (see the photos on this site). They have Yuengling draft and big mugs - almost 55 gallon size. Great when you use the hot sauce like I do. I have brought friends here and every time I have visited the food was great and the service was also. I look forward to many more meals at this great place. If you visit - tell them - Jim - the guy with the beard and the fedora that takes pics of the food and beer recommended it to you. (They will hook you up). I came here towards the end of September. I wanted a few tacos so I decided on Plaza Azteca. I wasn't too hungry but I was craving a few tacos. So I ordered a few. When they came out everything was cold except for the beef, which was lukewarm. I let my waiter know and he basically treated me like I was stupid. He told me the veggies aren't supposed to be hot. Uhm I was talking about the shell and the beef. He made a big deal out of it but took it away. The manager came to me with hot tacos. Like it should be. He told me they don't normally do this but he will remember my face. He was nice but at the same time he was talking to me like I was a pain in his a**. He left and my friend told me a group of waiters were staring at me. Don't worry about remembering my face because I won't be back. I'll stick with Taco Bell. I love Plaza. Last year we had date night there every Wed and we loved the bartender! They were always willing to make new drinks for us and even ordered some special liquor to try a new thing. Super cool! They had 2 quick menu changes but it seems they are sticking with it now. Food is excellent. I also love their guacamole. My biggest issue lately is how busy it has been. Service is usually good but on occasion you get a bad experience. But with all the other mexican in the area and now a few good ones I don't like to wait too long. But we still visit often enough.
