This location is seems a lot smaller than the other Plazas in Hampton Roads. It was a 35 minute wait for two when I went here on a Saturday night. Service was on and off. It took a while to get the drinks and food order and to get the check. But my drink was always filled when needed and the server brought over a new bowl of salsa without me having to ask. I almost always get the steak fajitas here ($11.99). Love the meat to veggie ratio and the rice. Didn't love that I only got two tortillas...could have sworn that they use to give three. My date got the fajita nachos, which came with meat, white cheese, and veggies. He liked them, but I'm more of The Works type of gal when it comes to nachos. read more

I think I have to be the most critical of hispanic (mexican in particular) simply due to them being notorious for not being fresh. The reason for 3 stars, instead of 2 or 1, is their table-side guacamole. Believe it's 8 bucks, and completely worth it. you know it's fresh because they make it right in front of you. I always get worried when food comes out TOO fast because it points to food being pre-cooked. Almost like a fast food restaurant, just way more expensive. This place feels like that. Fast food. Very clean and they have a nice outdoor patio. Been frequenting this place about 8 years. Very consistent, very Virginia Mexican. Growing up in San Diego I have never understood the idea of drowning every burrito in a cheesy sauce, Mixing cheese and rice or all of the other strange incarnations I have only seen since coming to Hampton Roads. But, the quality, consistency, and service make this place very good. I have tried the other locations but, this has always been very good. I enjoy the Azteca Salad. They always cook the shrimp just right and it is so flavorful you don't need a salad dressing. Was a La Tolteca fan until we tried here. La Tolteca seems to me always a little over salted and over cooked. Plaza always seems to be fresh and seasoned just right. read more

My favorite food is Mexican. I have not been to an authentic Mexican restaurant here in Hampton Roads, and I have to say that this food is not "authentic", but it's definitely pretty good. Okay, so I've eaten at Plaza Azteca MANY times, mainly at the Cedar Road location and have never been disappointed. It's been about 9 years since I've dined at the location on Dock Landing but I just moved back to this part of town so I figured it would be just as good as the one on Cedar in terms of food, atmosphere, etc. Boy, was I wrong. Don't get me wrong, the restaurant itself was nice and clean, the waitress was friendly enough, the food was hot and fast as usual. I got the steak fajitas to split with my 10-year-old son like we normally do. My daughters got the #18, beef burrito with taco and rice. The steak was SUPER chewy, almost unedible. I couldn't even bite into it and separate it from the rest of the piece I was biting into. It was served with only TWO tortillas so my son got one and I got one. The waitress knew that we were sharing and at the Cedar Road location they will give us 4. Wasn't impressed. My daughters seemed to mostly enjoy their food selections. My son wanted dessert so we decided to get the white cake and all split it. It was nearly frozen when it came out and I actually found a piece of wax paper in my mouth, gross. Then comes time for the check. I brought with me a $4.00 off any dinner ticket as long as you buy 2 full meals with sodas (which I did). When I presented the waitress with the coupon she told me I had to let her know ahead of the meal that I was using the coupon..why? My check was $54.66 after tax. She took my card and the coupon and when she returned my check was $55.49!! How does that work?? It cost less BEFORE the coupon!! Long story short, I will not be going back to this particular Plaza Azteca. The food was so-so and I ended up paying more than if I had just left the coupon at home!! read more

This used to be one of my favorite places. I have the third star as a pity, since 2.5 stars wasn't an option. I still love the service and location but they are changing the food over at all plazas in major ways. They've gotten very cheap with it all. It taste horrible. It's over priced. The lunch specials are now the price of the old dinner menu. I would honestly rather just do a taco night at home now. The tacos don't even come with cheese on them anymore. The chicken is a wet shredded chicken now. Sad to say, I don't see myself coming here hardly at all anymore. read more

I ordered a meal for three family members. Upon arrival i paid for the food and then waited a couple minutes for Madison (young lady at to go counter) to retrieve my food. Upon inspection of my food I noticed that my taco salad and white salsa were missing. Madison took the ticket back to the kitchen to get it fixed. 10 minutes became 15 minutes and still my food had not arrived. Madison decided to inform me that they were busy. It was painfully obvious that they were busy and her comment didnt help. I took a breath and calmy responded "I understand where you are coming from but you should not give excuses to customers but instead you should fix what went wrong". Madison went on to tell me that it was Cinco De Mayo. About 20 minutes later the manager "Ali" emerged with my taco salad. I informed him that I could not take cold food back to my family and I asked him to replace the other orders. It took about 5 minutes to return the other food. Ali was obviously busy and wasnt thinking clearly or he surely would have ensured all food was hot to begin with. After all this trouble I would have expected Ali to comp my meal or offer coupons for a next visit, sadly he did not provide any compensation for my troubles. As I told Ali, we have been regular customers for 10 years. I will be contemplating other Mexican options in the future. I certainly will not order to go here again. read more

The food is dependable and consistently good. My favorite entrees are chicken and spinach enchiladas, enchiladas rancheros, and mushroom quesadillas. I ordered take out of 3 fajitas entrees. On the phone I asked for 2 mixed fajitas and 1 Texas & 1 setup with no rice, beans only. I looked thru the bag & all entrees were present, but the plastic covering skewed my complete sight. Upon further inspection at home. The Texas fajitas were missing the shrimp & the setup had rice only! I immediately called and no answer on all 3 numbers & the managers mailbox was conveniently full. I did, write a note on their contact email. In hopes that someone would read that. The next day I called to speak with a manager. The server who answered stated that there was a sign posted to check your orders. I replied I did to the extent of not opening every container in a restaurant still under Covid 19 restrictions. She stated workers were told that it fell on the customer to check the food before they left the restaurant. Opening my food in an open space without proper sanitation on my part is defeating the purpose. I will write a follow-up if some resolution is achieved. read more

My co- workers and I order Plaza Azteca every week. All three of us get the same thing every time we order. Burrito fajitas with chips only white dip, enchiladas suizas with chips white dip only and then 2 Chicken enchiladas with chips white dip only. Recently they told us that the person getting 2 chicken enchiladas can't receive the chips and dip and need to order another item. This would of been fine if we were told that from the start. But they have been ordering that since before I even came to this location in Nov. For people that order as much as we do and when we call you already know the order you would think to keep customers they would allow it. We are looking for other Mexican restaurants to order from. The food is great the service is great it always ready when we come pick up but it's chips and dip people. this is our usual Mexican place. the food is always quick and consistently good. the hostesses and wait staff have never been overly friendly, but the food is the hook, not the service. However, we have never kept an empty water glass for very long, so maybe it would be accurate to say that service is attentive, not warm. The cheese dip is typical, but delicious. The chips are always warm and the salsa always fresh. I usually always eat either soft chimichangas, taco salad, or a vegetarian meal. my husband loves the chori pollo and the shrimp fried rice. Always a great time here..We usually hang out on Thursday nights for happy hour margaritas..They're just right...I've had just about everything on the menu, and everything that I've ever had has been delicious..As for last night, we took my mother out for her bday..And they had added some new dishes..Couldnt quite remember the names of the two newest dishes that were ordered by my family members but I did get great pictures of the succulent appearance of all of them..One of them was served inside of half of a pineapple..With chicken and steak...Yummm..paired with a brown rice..On the healthier side I believe....Another dish ordered was a fish and shrimp pair, this was also delicious from my understanding paired with colorful diced veggies, beans and rice..I ordered the Burrito Mex with a mixture of chicken and steak, rice and beans...Other tasty treats were Texas Fajitas, Taco Salads and Hard tacos..Go and try this great restaurant you won't be disappointed; -) read more

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The food and drinks are great. I love the shrimp nachos and the LARGE mango margarita. If you like guacamole, this is definitely the place to get it fresh, it's fixed at your table and you tell them what you want in it. I have been to many different Plazas, but never visited the Norfolk one until today... it was so awesome inside.. really enjoyed the decor... food was tasty (shrimp tacos) -- service was great-- prices were reasonable... we had to run (literally) out the door.. midway through meal (I am sick and was only stopping here after the leaving the hospital because I was starving) but the server saw my husband run to get the car.. and ran to me, gave me the bill ASAP.. and took my payment right at the table.. so I didn't have to stand up... VERY AWESOME.... though I am sure he saw how pale I was getting and thought don't let this bitch get sick right here or I will have to clean it up.. lol... though will go back soon.....
