When we entered the location we were greeted by the host and escorted to our seats. We ordered fajitas, ceviche and chips and guacamole. Everything we ordered was delicious. The restaurant reminded me of a typical Mexican restaurant with great music and decor.

Ate all the food. Here's a pic of some nachos.

It's my first time at this establishment. I'm so impressed with the decor. The day of the dead paintings are out of this world!! Table service was amazing! Carlos was our server. He was so friendly and attentive. Chips, salsa, and queso are served promptly. Both are spicy! I wanted to have something different something with vegetables but not a salad (although those salads were sounding real tasty). I got Pollo Patrón. Grilled chicken with sugar snap peas, carrots broccoli and more, topped with a cheese sauce, served with rice, beans, and warm tortillas. Absolutely delicious! Came out fast too! I'll definitely be back. There a many more things I'd like to try. You should too.

The food was well seasoned and tasty. Very traditional Mexican grub. The decor very nice and the service was very attentive. I will return.

Finally there is a good Mexican restaurant in this area of Harrisburg that is easily accessible and close by. The Plaza Azteca off Progress Ave did a great job of remodeling the building of the previous restaurant to create a clean, open, and welcoming space. While Plaza Azteca's are a chain, the quality of food can vary between the different locations depending on the staff working at the restaurant. This Plaza Azteca far surpasses the one on the West Shore. We have probably already been to this location and/or had takeout at least a dozen times and have been very pleased. (A couple mis-steps with the accuracy of take out orders) . The dining room provides space for families and large groups. The bar and bartenders are great and create a positive vibe to relax with a drink (large selection on tap in addition to mixed drinks). We have sampled a variety of items off the menu and have been pleased with all our choices. A few highlights are: Spinach and Chicken Quesadillas, enchiladas, and the fajitas. The prices seem higher than needed, but portion sizes are large so things equal out in the end.

Best restaurant! Amazing drinks and food, I love the fact that they're heavy handed when it comes to the drinks.

Service was great! Super fast and very attentive. We ordered a steak fajita and molcajete (not listed on the menu). The molcajete is good for two big eaters or 3 normal people. It comes with fajita wraps, rice and refried beans. It was memorable and good. Great place for large groups and kids.

The restaurant itself had a few tables, a frozen ice cream box, video chance games, a huge rack of phone cards and several pictures decorating the walls. Most of the pictures depicted scenes from mexico, such as poncho villa, zapata, rural life, cows, etc... one of the walls was covered in mirrors and had a sombrero hanging on it. They have standard tacos at 2.50 apiece, chicken, beef or pork. We tried several of them. There was also a Torta for 8.50 that was pretty decent. There was some type of hot sauce (Valentina brand) here that that we put on it made it significantly better. The helado de fresa or strawberry ice cream ($1.50) balanced it out. We also had the Bistek Ranchero: it came with 6 yellow corn tortillas, onions, cilantro, beans, rice & lots of beef, mixed with red pepper. That cost 14.00 pretty decent if you ask me. What makes this place stand out in my opinion is the " tostada ceviche de camaron " or lime marinaded seafood salad on a deep fried corn tortilla. This item is occasionally also available at competitors but not nearly as good. 5 Stars, incredible food!

Margaritas (both on the rocks and blended) were very good. The blended was smoother than any Ive ever had before. Chips had a strong corn flavor, but the bowl was half full for three people and had enough broken pieces to suggest we'd gotten to the bottom of the bag. The salsa was delicious, with just a hint of heat. Entrees included a Pizza Birria, which was like a quesadilla, but more interesting. The tortilla had a well-cooked look to it, the center layer of braised beef, cheese and onions was thick enough to satisfy even the hungriest. The majority was taken home in leftovers. Another "never before seen" items was the chimichanga -- available soft or fried. What? A chimichanga is a FRIED burrito. If its not fried, its a burrito. Which, soft in this version, looked and was delicious, but I'm still confused. Finally, my Chicken Mole Poblano. So Much Food! And it was yummy! Slightly sweeter than what I'm used to, but trust me when I say I scarfed almost all of it down -- without the tortillas. A great night out, I know more family will visit it this week. I think I'd like to go back.

You were always greeted quickly with chips and salsa and it doesn't take very long for your food to come. I was there at lunch on a Saturday and we were able to order off the lunch menu. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. It came with a side of rice and a salad, but I was offered rice and beans, but I chose the rice with the salad. Inside, the vibe is warm and festive: colorful artwork, low-top tables, a lively bar stocked with tequilas, and gorgeous Moravian star lights glowing overhead. The menu is extensive -- everything from tacos and burritos to rice bowls, full entrées, and massive multi-person feasts served in lava rock molcajetes. Most dishes land around $20, or you can snag tacos individually for $5.50. We started with the Mexican Seafood Dip and wow... game changer. Shrimp, bay scallops, crab, and mushrooms all swimming in a red tomatillo sauce, baked under a gooey blanket of cheese, and served with chips. Unlike so many "seafood" dips that are 90% cheese, El Sol delivers with generous amounts of actual seafood. It was piping hot, hearty, and plentiful -- enough that we happily took leftovers home. For mains, I went with a Birria Taco (plus a trusty Diet Coke). Juicy, cheesy, crispy perfection -- I could've polished off three more but restrained myself. Adventure Buddy chose Camarones A La Diabla -- jumbo Gulf shrimp and mushrooms in a three-chile sauce. Bright red, spicy but not overpowering, and loaded with shrimp that were actually jumbo. He was a happy camper. Our total came to $62 with tip, which felt fair for the quality and portions. Service was attentive and friendly, and the noise level low enough for both conversation and even a quick phone call. Parking is the usual downtown Harrisburg scene -- no on-site lot, but free street parking after 5 and garages nearby make it easy enough. Bottom line: great food, colorful atmosphere, and a menu that's begging us to come back. Next time, I'm eyeing one of those lava rock molcajetes.
