We went here last week and the food was amazing! The chips and salsa were decent (I'm picky about chips lol) they were not bad but I like lighter thinner chips (call me weird I know! ) I had the enchiladas el jefe and they were amazing. Carne asada with a queso fresco, sour cream, corn sauce! I am usually a creature of habit and get the same thing I am used to but so glad I had this, it's my new favorite My finance had the enchiladas suizaz and it was delicious as well. The portions were very generous The staff was all very friendly and very attentive. Your drink refills, checking on your chips and salads was always a priority and we were seated immediately I have not had this great of service at a restaurant in a long time! Where to start? The food here is fantastic. We had the tableside guacamole, which was delicious, and the ceviche tropical--citrus-marinated shrimp with avocado, jalapeño, tomato, mango, onion, lime, orange, salt, and cilantro--so refreshing. The carne asada was tender and bursting with flavor. The aflaca chopped salad, with romaine and iceberg lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions, shredded cheese, and avocado dressing, topped with grilled shrimp, was incredible. The service was outstanding, the restaurant spotless, the music at a perfect volume, and everyone was friendly. We have visited here 3 times during our stay in Missoula. read more

Firstly, it's worth noting that I'm a Californian with hella bomb Mexican food in all literal directions from my house. I take my Mexican food incredibly seriously... ...and the food at Plaza Azteca ain't it. Some things are fine (the salsa, the queso fundido), some things are bland (the Mexican rice and the gosh darn guacamole they make tableside which is almost a crime), and some things (like the platanos) were weirdly too sweet--I know there's supposed to be a sweetness to them but these ones tasted straight up like someone got bananas and plantains mixed up. The service was so good though! Everyone took amazing care of us! The drinks were strong and large and the pricing was right. I didn't get to see too much of the restaurant as we were whisked to the back, but other than being a bit cooler than necessary, the restaurant was tidy and well kept. Unlikely for me to return as I don't live in Missoula, but I'd give them another shot and try some different menu items if my family wanted to return! read more

Got a simple order of cheese dip to go and my son went to pick it up. He called the number when he parked and waited 35 minutes for it. Also said the lady who answered wasn't friendly. Came here as a guest for a family gathering. Two in our party had arrived before us and ordered guacamole, which they do in front of you! Firstly, I enjoy the freshness of guacamole made right in front of me and that was the beginning. The menu is quite extensive, even as a pescatarian. I decided to order the seafood chimichangas (one is crab, other is lobster) and my girlfriend ordered the Oaxaca bowl with shrimp. Both were amazing, and out of the two chimichangas I preferred the lobster one. I split my food with my girlfriend and her bowl was amazing! We also ordered drinks, a pomegranate cosmo for me and a huckleberry margarita for her, but honestly, the margaritas are large enough to split. Both were great. Our service was amazing too, our waitress (I didn't catch her name) was articulate with all of our requests, impressive as we were a party of 6) and was present with us everytime we ordered. The music is low but creates an immersive atmosphere, along with the brown themed furniture. I also must say, as a lover of El Castillo, I'm happy to see it used as the logo on their menu. Overall, a great experience and I hope to return before heading home. read more

We ate here for the first time about two weeks ago. I was hoping to really like this place but wasn't too impressed. Upon walking in, we were greeted by a server and were immediately sat at our table. Our waiter, Crue arrived within a minute and asked us if we'd like any drinks. He was great, attentive, and very friendly. We were brought chips, salsa, and a creamy cheese sauce that neither of us liked. We quickly decided on what we wanted and ordered from the lunch menu since it was around 11:30am. Our food arrived pretty quickly, but despite that, it was luke warm and the plates were cold. I'm not sure what was going on there. I ordered two chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas were just dry chicken inside that was nowhere near hot in temperature. The tortillas were also dry and it seemed like all they did was just wrap shredded chicken in a tortilla and pour sauce over it. I feel bad saying this but they were the worst enchiladas I have ever had from a Mexican restaurant. The beans were subpar, and the fact that they were barely warm was a turnoff. I should add that many of the items on the lunch menu come with either rice or beans, not both. If you want both, you have to pay an additional $4 extra for the extra side. My husband also wasn't crazy about what he got, which was the fajita burrito. We may give them another try and try their dinner menu and see if we have a better experience. I feel like for the time of day we went, the food should have been hot at least. There is someone who comes around with a cart and asks if you want guacamole, made right there qt your table. That's a nice touch but hopefully they do better on the temperature of the food when it arrives to the table. The restaurant itself has a more modern look to it, and doesn't have that traditional Mexican restaurant look to it. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I actually like how they've decorated the inside since opening the restaurant. We will most likely give them another chance and if we do, I will update my review. read more

This is our 3rd Friday in a row going here. Our first experience wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible and we went at a bad time on a Tuesday. Every experience since then has been great, but today was stellar. Despite a packed house, we got extremely attentive and fast service from our server Bodi. You can look through my reviews, I never mention servers by name and don't think I could even tell you the name of any server I've ever had. Bodi was spectacular. The rib eye tacos, chimichangas, and birria tacos are all exceptional. The pickled red onions on the rib eye tacos are my favorite touch. Such a nice way to add acidity. Fun place!! It replaced Jakers, and I think it is a better fitting spot for the venue. There is usually a wait, so I recommend getting there early, having a reservation or going to the bar. Second visit ti Plaza Azteca in two weeks. Our experience thus far has been wonderful. Greeted at the front door and seated immediately. Waiters are friendly and fast. Brought us crispy, warm chips and salsa and water straight away. Our food came out of the kitchen within 5mins of ordering! Tasty and as written on the menu. I had the lunch shredded beef chimi with rice. The tortilla was crispy fried with queso on top. Beef was tasty and abundant. Rice was yummy. Husb had two tacos with beans-entrees come with rice and beans. I asked for all rice-he for all beans. He said they were the best refried beans he has ever had. Really great experience. I was hoping Plaza Azteca would provide a nice option for Mexican food in Missoula. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll come back. We were here for late lunch on November 8th. Our first impression was set but the sulky, rude hostess (white blouse and long braid). She seemed miffed that we interrupted her chatting with other staff at the hostess station. On leaving, a group of five staff were at the desk, once again, socializing. Not one of them bothered to even look up and say "thanks for coming". I mean what the heck? You've only been open for a couple of weeks and this is the level of customer service? If a manager had checked in I would have mentioned it, they need to pay more attention. It wouldn't hurt them to check out the level of service at Texas Roadhouse. Our waiter was nice, but we got a wrong item. Food wise the salsa was pretty basic, no real flavor. It's great that they use black beans, but need more flavor and they were kind of watery. The Baja tacos were underwhelming, especially at $20 for three of them. The skinny margarita was good. My daughter ordered this huge black lava bowl full of steak, shrimp, peppers, etc that was intriguing, to say the least. She's eating the leftovers for lunch today, as did I. The greeter didn't smile or greet us just picked up menus and waved us to a table. The service was okay. When the food arrived they forgot the side dish. The chips were tasteless. The salsa was meh. My seafood chimi priced at $25. Was soggy and small. There were two of them. The beans looked like something else ( use your imagination) no taste! The dish when presented had zero eye appeal. It was Sunday. We were headed to our favorite Mexican place in Missoula but they are closed Sunday. That's how we ended up at this mediocre restaurant. The lunch bill was $59. We ordered no drinks! What a sub par meal! The interior had no festive Mexican feel. Looked like it did when it used to be steak house. If it wasn't Sunday I would never have even tried this place but El Cazador was closed. If you are going for Mexican food in missoula save yourself from an expensive disappointment at Plaza Azteca.
