My husband and I visited this particular Plaza Azteca on Howard Blvd this evening. it was my birthday. The service was the BEST, we had William as our server. He was super attentive and engaging, we watched the interaction between the servers and it was amazing to see how well they worked together. Like family. We met the manager Pedro who is definitely an asset to Plaza Azteca. He just couldn't do enough for you. The way we were treated this evening by our server William, and watching the dynamics of a busy evening with staff and manager Pedro, I can only say it was refreshing! There's better places! I ordered chicken fajitas and asked if they could substitute corn tortillas. The chicken fajitas I received came mixed with random shrimp and beef pieces. It appeared the grill was not cleared properly when my order was made. The tortillas appeared to be flour so I didn't eat them. The waiter asked if everything was ok and I told him thee issues. He said, "I'll be back." But he never came back. He asked if we wanted refills, we said yes, but never received one the remainder of our meal. At the end of our meal a female employee asked if everything was ok, again I shared the issues. When the check came, I was charged .99 extra for corn tortillas and the full meal. I visited this past Saturday evening and the place was packed. Very good complimentary corn chips were provided with both a quality ranch dip and salsa which was some of the best I've eaten. We ordered takeout for Cinco de Mayo and were ecstatic to hear that it wouldn't take a long time for our order (considering we tried calling another location and couldn't get through for half an hour.) The pickup system was organized so patrons could keep social distance and feel safe getting food. All the dishes we got were were fantastic, the only reason I knocked a star is because our guacamole was supposed to be medium and it was way too hot for us. This used to be my favorite place to eat especially since the other location had a different chef. They definitely fell off. I went there the day before Cinco de Mayo and let me tell you it was terrible. The bartender was taking orders, he was also the waiter, ect. He spilled my drink all over the table. It was horrible service. He didn't place my order correctly and was to worried about other people at the bar. Last time I'll ever go here. Just found out recently that this little gem is 10 minutes from my home. Hubby and I are so wowed that we've ordered takeout 3 TIMES in about two weeks. Don't judge. Sooo good and fresh, and they have great customer service. Some of the dishes we've tried and loved: Baja Fish Tacos, which were amazing, lots of flavor, and crispy with black beans and rice (usually all you can get in our area is refried beans, which we also love, but the black beans were perfect!); Enchiladas Suizas (my favorite) with moist chunks of chicken, not dried out like at other establishments, and the creamy tomatillo sauce really makes this dish; Tacos de Camaron, soft flour tortillas stuffed with grilled shrimp and a boatload of delicious, creamy cheese (to be honest, half the cheese sauce would have been plenty) and pico de gallo. Fresh chips with, of course, fresh salsa comes with the meal. We also always order extra pico de gallo and guacamole. This is comfort food on steroids. read more
