I eat lunch at Plaza a couple times a month. It's always great! Do yourself and try the pastrami! This was my first time in for breakfast with my family. Pancakes, eggs, omlette and a sandwich were all delicious. I love the fruit plate. They make them ahead and keep them in the refrigerated case. The fruit and plate are ice cold when it comes out! On a Sunday morning t 11am, the parking lot is full and there are others entering the resteraunt. Place is packed but we are seated immediately. 2 bus Boys are tripping over each other yo get us water and settings before we are settled into our seats. They depart and are immediately replaced by the waitress. Orders were delivered crazy fast. The food was great! The fruit plate was ice cold, crisp and plentiful. Great pancakes, I think the best I've had. Servers are typically pretty attentive too. However I'm here to talk about the design decisions, the inside, what an improvement. But the outside... the upper windows look like they have plywood and the building is still under construction, the new white buildings they refaced makes it all look even worse and unfinished. A project to never be painted and windows to never be completed is how it reads. By far the most unsightly plaza in Shelton. Perhaps the fault of the property owners decisions but you should let him know. read more

My mom recently moved and the plaza diner one of the closest to her new digs. I've been to the plaza many years ago, but have gone back a few times recently when visiting with my mom. The place is clean and staff is friendly. What really draws me here is one sandwich, the Turkey with Twist. It's fresh sliced Turkey ( none of that deli stuff) Swiss cheese and bacon on toasted Rye with a side of coleslaw and thousand island. Sooooo good. I order it every time I come. Pro-tip: I always add the thousand island and coleslaw directly to my sandwich. My mom has enjoyed all the meals she's had especially the grilled cheese (comes on thick buttery Texas toast) and their sweet potato fries. I'll definitely be back, but not sure I can order anything than my beloved Turkey with a twist! read more

First time visit to this Shelton diner for a late lunch suggested by my friend who loves this place and often frequents. Nice variety of items on the menu at reasonable prices (for these days). My friend ordered her go to favorite of the in house roasted turkey dinner-which comes with choice of soup or salad and potato I chose the gyro platter with rice-which also comes with soup--and we both got a side of coleslaw and unsweetened iced tea. The food arrived relatively quickly. All looked and tasted very good and fresh , decent portions, and we both loved the coleslaw. We also both took home leftovers as even though we were stuffed to the brim, we just could not resist a dessert; lots of sweets in the display case calling our names. The place was steady the entire time and all seemed to be enjoying the food and relaxed atmosphere. Service was great, the restrooms and dining area were clean and well kept and there is ample parking. Oh and they had some great music in the background! It had been many years since my last visit. What I remembered on my last visit was a run down place that felt outdated. No more. It's clearly been renovated and refreshed and it shows. Lots of TLC in this place. (The bathroom might've been the nicest diner bathroom I can remember being in). The breakfast remains rock solid. There's no gourmet here but that suits me just fine. I am sad to report Plaza Diner takes the cake for the worst meal we've paid for so far in 2023... Though the shake (which isn't even on the menu, you have to ask for it) is killer! As we sat in this overly tan, dated-looking (but not stylishly so, like some retro diners) eatery, we ordered entrees only, which were a French Dip ($15) and Fish and Chips ($20), as well as some French Onion Soup ($6). The French Onion Soup was flavored quite nicely in its salt content, though was missing that signature caramelized flavor that is imperative for a perfect execution of the dish. The Fish and Chips were overly fishy, and the breading was crisp, but bland without an ounce of salt. The fries (chips) it was served with were also anemically flavored and lacking crispiness. The French Dip was even worse. The roast beef was well-done (aka overcooked) and tough, and biting into it was a chore, even after soaking it with the au jus. The amount of melted Swiss was excessive, pretty much macerating the meat and then congealing into a greasy hard casing, leading me to believe the sandwich sat for a while before being served. Our waitress was fine, but inattentive and fairly brusque, and we got none of that friendly diner aura from this staff that I would expect from a diner. I went with my boss on a business trip and we ran into some people we knew while we were there. The menu seemed like it had a decent selection. I wasn't too hungry so I just got a bagel sandwich with sausage, egg and cheese. Their bagel options weren't very good. That was a little disappointing. No one complained about their meal but no one finished their's either. When I'm in there area, there aren't many places close to the hotel and the building I'm visiting. An excellent Greek Diner whether you do breakfast or lunch. For breakfast their omelets are great as is the hash & eggs or sausage you can't go wrong. For lunch, they have one of the best traditional Gyros I have ever had. Plenty of meat and vey fresh vegetables. Their French fries or sweet potato fries are tops. We waited roughly 10 minutes for a waitress to come over while being sat between 2 large parties against the back wall. We were over looked and passed by a manager and a waitress. My wife and I have been looking for a good breakfast spot close to our house. Not "just sandwiches" but a place to go and sit and order a breakfast. We have tried another diner in the area and we're not fans. We had been to the Plaza Diner many years ago but couldn't even remember if it was lunch or breakfast (we didn't live in the area then).... And for context before smart phones where a thing :) We both ordered scrambled eggs with well done home fries and rye toast. Plaza Diner was one of the few restaurants open when we got in from the second leg of our road trip late on a Tuesday evening, and conveniently close to the hotel we were staying at so we stopped in for dinner. I ordered the gyro with waffle fries. Our food was delivered to the table reasonably quickly, and I was impressed at the freshness of the greenery accompanying the gyro meat on the pita. The gyro meat itself seemed to be a slightly thicker version of the usual Sysco-esque strips you'll find many places, and was slightly bland, but well-cooked and overall it was a tasty gyro. The waffle fries were delicious; hot, salty, and perfectly fried. Even the slaw that came on the side was good; usually such sides are afterthoughts and way too sweet, but this had a little vinegar punch to it. Service was pleasant enough, though I did have to ask for the tzatziki that was supposed to come with my dish. We also ordered a piece of berry cheesecake to go, which unfortunately disappointed as it was overly sweet with a too-soft texture, and the piece we were given was hilariously small compared to the featured picture on the menu. The interior of the restaurant was very nice, as I understand it was completely renovated some years ago. If you're looking for some reasonably-priced diner food, while you probably won't be bowled over by what Plaza Diner has to offer, you almost certainly won't be disappointed either. read more

The server we had Eve was absolutely adorable and super friendly everybody was really nice and both sandwiches we had my husbands on the deli with roast beef and cheddar and my Ruben with pastrami were absolutely out of this world. The not your average nachos were really delicious and we took a Napoleon desert to split to our hotel it was heavenly. Where do I even begin? Everything was horrible! We had to wait 15 minutes just for her to bring the salad when hardly anybody was in the restaurant. Then we had to wait another 10 minutes for rolls, when we asked for them at the time of the order, by that time we were done with our soup and salad. When they finally brought the rolls they were rock hard. When my dinner came out the food was cold and tasteless! I was so aggravated I just said take it back, I do not want it. The manager or whoever was just standing there doing nothing didn't even bother coming over. instead of apologizing one of the waitress said oh so I guess you're not going to need this extra cranberry sauce and walked away!
