Not only does he appear to respond mostly to negative feedback, but his tone often comes across as rude and overly defensive. Jonathan, having a business for 30 years doesn't give you a free pass to be dismissive toward people who are simply sharing their experiences. There's always room for growth and improvement. Instead of being combative, take the time to really listen to your customers and consider their concerns--this could lead to positive changes and an even better shopping experience. That said, I visited this consignment store a few days ago, and Jonathan himself was actually very helpful and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the consignment process and was very pleasant throughout. The store itself is a bit overcrowded with clothing and shoes, which can feel overwhelming, but the selection is solid and the pricing is reasonable considering the focus on high-end pieces. While the clothing leans more mature, there are definitely options for all ages. This shop is exclusively for women--I didn't see any men's items, but that's not a dealbreaker for me. The clearance section is located upstairs, and while I did find a lot of regular designer names, I didn't spot many high-end pieces there aside from a few pairs of shoes. Also, the upstairs area definitely needs better ventilation--AC or at least a few fans would make a big difference, as it was uncomfortably warm. Their written receipt states that sale information is updated on the 15th of each month for the prior month. Since then: No June update. No July update. No August update. Multiple emails have gone unanswered. Each time I have called, I have been told there is a growing "backlog." I visited the store and neither item was on the sales floor. I still have not been told whether my items were sold, what they sold for, or when I will be paid. On my latest call, this past Monday, I was again told that there was a significant backlog, that nothing further could be done at that point, and that my complaint would be passed along to accounts payable. When I asked whether the business was going under and at risk of defaulting on consignors, there was some hesitation followed by what I would characterize as a half-hearted denial. I obviously do not know Gentlemen's Resale's actual financial condition. But after more than three months without an accounting, payment, or meaningful response--and repeated references to a growing backlog--I am seriously concerned about what is happening with consignors' property and money. I am posting this publicly in the hope that Gentlemen's Resale will finally provide an immediate accounting of my two items and pay any proceeds that are due. I will update this review promptly if they resolve the matter.
