This is now becoming an annual tradition...a trip to the orchard and a fun day with music and treats! This family owned orchard is a you pick spot (or you buy already picked) and is a fun day outing. There is plenty of parking and they have ample picnic tables and patio seating. There is a fun play area for kids and they are rather casual about things so kids can enjoy the orchard as well. On weekends they have music in the fall so we got to enjoy some Bluegrass, local wine and treats plus apple cider and apples for home. Their slushiest are amazing but all of their treats are yummy, and who can resist a pumpkin or caramel apple? Definitely worth a visit! read more

Somehow I've made it to the ripe old age of 37 without having ever been to an apple orchard. Thanks to Yelp for sending out a list of local apple orchards, I realized just how close this was to my house. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'd say it exceeded my expectations. We stopped in on the first Sunday in October around 10am and it was packed! Luckily, they have plenty of parking. There's no entrance fee or anything, you just have to buy a bag from their store if you plan on picking apples. They have 3 different sizes. I chose 1/2 peck which ended up fitting around 10 or so apples. There were several varieties of apples to choose from, including several varieties I'd never heard of it. There's a map at the store do you know where to find each variety but each row is labeled with a wood sign as well. After we picked our apples, we had lunch in the store. The apple slush was delicious! In addition to apples for sale in the store, they had pumpkins, corn, squash, and lots of local goods like cheese, jams, and fudge. My FAVORITE orchard!! The food they serve here, although "concession style" food, is so good. I would come here for dinner, LOL. My favorite dish is the caramel apple fondue. Basically a caramel apple, but so much easier to eat. The cashiers are so kind, and answer all your questions about which rows of apples to pick, etc. They also have QR code maps posted around to help with this too! As for the apple picking, the orchard itself is pretty large that you don't run into other families while picking. (My husband actually proposed here and it was completely private) They have wagons for their pumpkins patch, as well as a free tractor to the patch. They do have a playground for kids as well. We were looking for something fun to do on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and decided to check out a local orchard. Although we've lived in Indy for 30 years, I had never heard of Pleasant View Orchard. It was close, so we decided to give it a try. We had a blast! They had all the simple pleasures we were looking for. The parking was easy and close to the action. Everything we got was delicious. The pulled pork sandwich ($4.50), apple fondue ($4.50) and apple slushie ($3.00) were excellent! Brandywine Creek Winery had a pop-up tent selling their wines, and giving free samples. We got a bottle of the Gewurztraminer, which was very tasty! ($18.00). They had a bluegrass band (Birch Creek) playing all afternoon, and they were outstanding. Pleasant View Orchard is really cute! I visited for the first time on a Wednesday around 12pm in mid September. We wanted to do pick your own apples, but there were signs up saying there were very few apples left for that. I was surprised and a little disappointed, but I walked the orchard with my niece instead and then grabbed a bag of Fuji apples on my way out. The pumpkins they had were beautiful and very affordable! We got two medium-large pumpkins for $13. They look great on our front porch! They also had a selection of small gourds and pumpkins for $1-2 each. I ended up with several of those for my desk and bedroom and they look great! I had to try an apple cider slushie, and I wasn't disappointed. For $1.50 or $3, it's a refreshing treat on a September day! They had a well maintained bathroom, too. I have to point this out because I have been to some farms and parks lately that do not have clean facilities, and this was so much better! Tacked on a fifth star just for that! I'll definitely be back to Pleasant View Orchard. It's a nice local orchard to have some late summer, early fall fun at with your fam or friends! read more

I went to Pleasant View Orchard today for the first time. I have passed by this exit many many times. Today I saw they had a Product Sampling Day on Facebook. As you can expect on this day they were extremely busy. I still had no trouble finding a spot to park. Although I did have to wait in a long line to pay for the items that I bought. They had three different apples that you could go into the orchard to pick today but it appears they have many more that they grow right on the property. I found many things that I thought I would take home to try again after going to their product sampling day. They also have hot dogs and nachos and such. I had a apple cider slushie and 4 fried biscuits with apple butter. Those biscuits were hot out of the fryer and they were excellent. I will definitely go back and try them again on a less busy day but I was very happy I got to try many of their products. read more

First off, who doesn't love a cute apple orchard and pumpkin patch in the fall? This is the only dog-friendly orchard/pumpkin patch in the Indy area so bring the pups! We even did a photo shoot here with our pups! Once you get there you can buy empty bags - various sizes - and they'll give you a map of the rows that say which kind of apples are grown. Some are off limits depending on their supply. It super fun to walk up and down the rows picking the perfect apples! They have the best cider slushees, Carmel apples, apple sauce, and anything else apple centered your heart desires on their menu! They also have a u-pick pumpkin patch and also have pre-picked pumpkins you can buy as well as mums! We love this place and it's only 25 mins from downtown Indy! Much to my surprise, the majority of the Honey Crisp apples were already spoken for--so get there early in the season. What I loved about the Pleasant View Orchard was the little shop that had the best apples and caramel fondue I've had in a while! I loved this orchard, we will be returning next year! It's over 40 acres and so much to do and see. Beautiful scenery and the staff was very nice. They have rows and rows of apples, the only downside was that the trees were pretty picked over or the apples had all fallen off. Such a waste. But in addition to that, they have a large pumpkin patch you get to by hayride or they have a u-pick patch and all the pumpkins are only $7! Such a great deal! Couldn't have been a more autumn-esque day to visit Anderson Orchard! I arrived with three "missions" in mind: 1.) introduce my friend from Texas to his first orchard (oh, Indiana, you're just too cute) 2.) purchase a half peck of apples 3.) purchase an obnoxious number of so-ugly-their-cute pumpkins. I was able to accomplish two of my three goals and still left sporting a toothy smile. $7 for a half peck bag and boy, oh boy, did I give that bag a run for its money. I believe I was able to squeeze in somewhere around 14 or so apples (yeah! 50 cents per apple!) I appreciated the laid back/free for all approach - *here's your bag *have at it* Due to the particularly dry summer/poor crop, several local orchards were eliminating the u-pick option for the year. Fortunately, Anderson wasn't one of them. One more thumbs up for Anderson: open on Sundays! My only bummer-dude of the day: no so-ugly-their-cute-pumpkins to be found. The largest pumpkins on site were pie pumpkins. Oh, well, gives me one more fun item to buy at the Original Farmer's Market downtown on Wednesday. read more

We went on a crisp autumn day late October, and it was just as crisp as the delicious apple I had fresh right from the tree . Thumbs up to the Ida Red. ;o) The orchard is easy to find, and it's located far enough off of the beaten path. It was bustling with many visitors, but it didn't seem congested or crowded because of the way the orchard is laid out. The crowd naturally followed the flow. You could move around freely without feeling rushed or cramped. They sell basic concession type of food at reasonable prices. The stars of the show are the apple products including the cider, as well as the apple butter. I did not try an apple slushie, but I read great things about it. Maybe next time for sure. When the apple butter is paired with the freshly baked and warm fluffy donut like biscuits,.... it is simply melt in your mouth sublime. I noticed they sold homemade fudge, but I didn't buy any because I just knew how dangerous that purchase would really have been. They do sell all kinds of other tasty looking packaged food products. The prices for the apples, (you pick them yourself if preferred), and the pumpkins are reasonable enough as I consider supporting a local farm/business. I am very that sure this time if the year is prime time for them, and most definitely their bread and (apple) butter. Pun intended. ;o) I think if we would have gotten there a few weeks earlier, I believe we could have had better pickings on the apples. Some of the varieties I wanted were already gone. They also had a tractor ride over by the pumpkin patch area. I don't think it was a hay ride though. Regardless, we didn't have time for it, but it was refreshing to discover that they didn't appear to charge for it. Simply put,... we absolutely enjoyed our relaxing time at the orchard. Just a little bit of a drive from down town Indy... don't complain about that = you aren't going to find an orchard in the city!!! Google map it and you won't have a problem finding it... and there are signs at each turn once you get close. Parking can be a little tight and hard to come by if it is busy on a weekend. Once parked in the lot, you are right in the heart of the orchard! Go to the little barn to pay for your bag for picking. Prices are good, I think. $12 for half peck, $20 for peck and ?$36 for a bushel. MANY varieties to choose from. They can help steer you to what you are wanting = for cooking, eating, tart, sweet, etc. I would like to see them have descriptions of each variety on a flyer. Rows of many of the varieties are all over the place... so you probably don't have to walk far to find one you are looking for. But from what I saw, they don't have wagons for you to use... bring your own. Ride the wagon out to the pumpkin patch! Starts end September or beginning of October. And on many Saturdays they also have live music!! FREE! AND kids small play area is free! The small shop is great... has a few local items from their apples based up, cider, and pumpkins and gourds, to Be Happy peanut butter, local popcorn, salad dressing and jams and sauces, lotions and body products, Fair Oaks meats and cheeses, and a little more I am forgetting. And the highlight seems to be the concession stand. VERY popular! There were several varieties of apples to choose from and I love that you just pay a flat rate based on the amount of apples you want. I got a half bushel for $18 and have plenty of apples to share with family and friends...and of course to snack on for the next couple of months! There is a wagon ride to the pumpkin patch if you're so inclined, but we were on a mission for Cameo apples. Cute little store with fresh apple cider, jams, jellies, local honey, a variety of produce, and plenty of apples if you don't want to pick them yourself. Family friendly area with play area and seating to enjoy food from the on site restaurant which specializes in a variety of apple foods. We woke up on an early fall Sunday morning, and my husband declared that it was a day for apple picking. Despite living in Indy most of my life, I'd never gone fruit picking here, so I was sort of at a loss for where to go. We found Pleasant View (like 20 minutes from home!) and decided to go for it! Though I don't have a lot of experience with apple picking, I really enjoyed this farm. They had over 80 rows of apples (tons of variety) with trees that were easy to access and in good shape. It really gives off a family farm vibe. The prices for apples were cheap (we stuffed a bag with 15 apples for $6.00), and I liked the set up of buying the bag and then getting the apples. The farmhouse had lots of other edible goodies for sale (jams, breads, cider, caramel apples), and we also picked up some adorable/ugly gourds and pumpkins for our kitchen table (cheap at 50 cents per baby pumpkin). The parking situation does leave a little to be desired. There are some spray painted directions on the ground that no one can really read, so you have to be careful to end up in an area where you won't get parked in. Even though we were there on a busy weekend with every parking spot taken, it didn't feel super packed with people. We were able to wander down the rows without encountering other pickers pretty easily. Five stars to a family farm that's keeping the fall spirit alive! read more

I love picking apples here. The orchard has many trees and is spread out so it doesn't seem too crowded. I knocked a star off because I've never been able to get any of the treats (funnel cakes, peach cobbler. Etc) because the line is always SO LONG. There needs to be more workers or a more efficient way to serve people. The line also wraps around the produce area so I haven't been able to get to the squash without disrupting everyone in line. read more
