I visited for the February Open House. The group that was there got a cheese plate to sample. The cheese plate consisted of Snapdragon, Nettle, Fromage Frais, Trillium, and one other cheese which I think was Dutch Tulip. They were all fantastic. There was a short presentation and then a tour given by Co-Owner Laura Davenport. It was interesting to hear about how the different cheeses are processed and how Tulip Tree Creamery came to be. I found this gem of a cheese shop on Yelp! You wouldn't expect a cheese shop in a commercial complex, but there it is. Patty greeted us and enthusiastically told us all about their award winning cheeses. All the cheeses are made on site from locally sourced milk. We purchased a variety of wedges and they are absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the Trillium which is a soft creamy Brie-like cheese. We also picked up the HOPS and Nightshade cheeses which were wonderful. These were some of the best cheeses I've ever had. They offer three levels of cheese making classes on Thursdays and Saturdays. They also sell cheese related products such as cutting boards in their shop. The shop is just off Lafayette Road and 62nd Street. Parking is out front. Well worth a visit. read more

So I admit I haven't been to their true storefront, I've just had their cheeses. I first encountered their cheese at Shea Cheese in Phoenix Arizona, back when I was living in that area. I was immediately wowed, but decided not to buy any at that time because I was moving to Indiana soon! I thought I'd be able to find some in Bloomington, but alas it's not easy... But as fortune had it, I ended up at a farmers' market up in Indy one day, at which they had a stand. And it lived up to expectations. The Queen Anne's Lace (which they had samples of on offer) was up to the standards of the best French bries, and much better than any of the big-name bries. Tiger Lily is a nice washed rind with the expected pungency. My complaint would be that I wish they used some non-cow milks too. I also found the rinds to be less edible than with some European cheese, but that's fine, just cut them off. read more

Came here last week cause I heard they finally have a storefront to buy directly from. Selection is very small, literally just 1 standing fridge. But if you love their products you'll love it regardless. They also have a few other local goodies for sale. It's all in the same space they have their cheese making classes. Tonight we went to a pop up event in the same space and got to sample so many goodies. Of course Tulip Tree's cheeses, butter, and puddings. Plus Smoking Goose's yummy cured meats, some baked goods from Lydia the Baker, and wines from Words Wine Collection. It was so awesome being able to try things that you might not normally try. The butter from Tulip Tree is delicious, I could eat it on it's own. The Fromage Frais is also great, especially paired with Local Folks Foods' Purple Haze (blueberry jam). Queen Anne's Lace was also good, again enhanced with Purple Haze. We even got to try the butterscotch and chocolate puddings. I'm not a fan of butterscotch pudding but I thought it was better than their chocolate. There were baked goods from St. Athanasius but we didn't get to try those since the two vendors from there didn't offer my friend and I anything when we checked out their table. If you've ever dreamed of being a cheese wizard, this is your Hogwarts. Tulip Tree Creamery's mozzarella-making class was hands-down the most fun I've ever had with curds (and that includes all my pizza nights). The instructors were equal parts knowledgeable and entertaining--I'm pretty sure they could make a brick of cheddar laugh. They guided us through stretching, pulling, and shaping our mozzarella like dairy-fueled sculptors. My first attempt looked more like a mozzarella crime scene, but by the end, I had a ball of cheese so beautiful I considered framing it instead of eating it. (Spoiler: I ate it.) 10/10 would recommend! Come for the cheese, stay for the laughs, and leave with an impressive new skill to show off at dinner parties. read more

My daughter gave me some of your cheeses. We enjoy cheeses wherever we go, but generally have found the best ones are from Europe. But I loved Tulip Tree Creamery's one called Nightshade, better than any hard cheese I've had. And it's local! Yay! read more

My husband and I wanted to do more experiences together and I've heard about Tulip Tree creamery before and saw they offered cheese making classes. We had such an amazing time and our instructor Liv was so helpful, kind, and patient. The ticket included a personalized cheese plate (featured in my photos) that allowed us to sample some of their cheeses, and it was BYOB so we brought a bottle of wine. It was about three full hours, but it went by so quickly! We left with so much mozzarella. I couldn't recommend this class enough. We can't wait to sign up for the next level. Two words: cheese-making classes. Sign yourself up with a group of friends, family or co-workers. We did this as a work excursion and team-building night. It was a BLAST. Not only did we learn a lot, but playing with the forming cheese was therapeutic, and the aftermath was delicious. The staff here always have fun, are super professional and are great teachers. We had a group of six and it was the perfect size. My favorite cheese that I made was the mozarella and I ended taking SO much home. The process took a few hours and we each made multiple different cheeses (I believe you can choose). Tulip Tree Creamery also makes some of the best cheeses in the state and you can sample them at several different farmers markets around the state. I most recently saw them at the Indy winter farmers market and Broad Ripple summer farmers market. Their gouda is my all-time favorite. Bonus: Have a wedding coming up?! They make cheese-wheel cakes that are so adorable and funky. Love the idea of breaking the mold and channeling your inner dairy queen. read more

Came here for a cheese making class with some of my coworkers and had an incredible experience. Not only did we snack on some incredible cheese and dairy products produced by Tulip Tree (I am now a total cultured butter junkie) but we learned how to make two different types of cheese and got to take some home with us! First we made some queso blanco, a semi soft cheese perfect for adding to tacos, salads, and other Mexican dishes. Then we tried our hand at mozzarella and enjoyed some good old fashion competition as we each tried to out pull each other (I'm pretty sure I had the best pull, tbh, but I digress). And let me tell you, there is nothing better than fresh, just pulled mozzarella. "Annette," you might say, "that's a bold statement." And to that I would respond, "Yes, yes it is. And it's 100% accurate." I seriously had no chill when it came to that cheese. I couldn't stop eating slices of the stuff. So delicious. After we got a tour of their amazing facility, all the coolers full of aging wheels of cheese. It was heaven. Or maybe hell because we were surrounded by all that goodness and we couldn't touch it. Luckily they were kind enough to stock our tasting table with a lot of the beautiful fromage we would later see in those fridges so it wasn't too much of a tease. Our instructors were so wonderful and we had the best time taking ridiculous photos and videos with them. I was cheese drunk and realized the next morning that I had left my coat at the facility and they were kind enough to leave the door open so I could sneak in to grab it on my way to the airport later that day. My significant other and I did a mozzarella making class and it was pricey but definitely worth it! We had a blast making cheese for the first time and enjoyed the samples and tour. For the class, you get a charcuterie board with 5 cheeses, and all the supplies to make 1 pound of mozzarella (which can be frozen and saved for up to a year). Not since I was in Montreal last year, noshing on the most amazing un-aged cheese I've ever had, have I enjoyed cheese so much. And not only did Tulip Tree Creamery's cheese rock my world but I got to make my own mozzarella and queso fresco with their help. Tulip Tree Creamery is the real deal. My boss booked a cheese making class for me and my coworkers as an icebreaking opportunity. What a fun idea! Morgan led the class and made making cheese so easy. I actually think I could do it at home -- from the boiling and stirring to incorporating rennet and acid to separating the whey and stretching out the lumps. And then we when tasted some -- especially the fresh mozzarella, still warm -- frOmageMG! That was the creamiest, buttery-est mozz I've ever tasted. Plus, after we were done making our cheeses -- which we did while nomming samples of Tulip Tree's cheese and sipping wine -- we got to go on a tour of the small, industrial facility. We got to walk into the different refrigerated rooms that contain their delicious cheeses, from the stinky bleus to the creamy Trillium and Foxglove. I actually bought those last two to go along with my container of queso fresco, mozzarella ball and curds that I made. I have so much cheese now! It's clear that everyone involved with Tulip Tree has passion for their product. I'd love to take part in another class, and I can't wait to find this cheese even in my town. read more

I found this brand at the farmer's market a few weeks ago and I have nothing but positive things to say! The person working was so nice and helpful about all of the cheeses. Ever since I stopped by Fair Oaks Farms on my way to Chicago, I've been on the hunt for comparable, high-quality cheese curds. Sure, you get some local varieties in Indiana, but I'm all about the freshness and, well, 'squeakiness' of a good curd. I remember reading about how a good cheese curd should 'squeak' in an old Disney book where Mickey was a cheesemonger, for some strange reason. Ever since then, I was mesmerized by this phenomenon everyone spoke so highly of. I had heard that Tulip Tree Creamery sold some of the best cheese around, sourcing even to local restaurants, and so a cursory glance at their Instagram story told me they'd set up stall at the Carmel Farmer's Market with that oh-so-elusive find: cheese curds. Sadly, getting to the Market even at 10 am proved to be not enough: they were sold out! We made sure to arrive as early as 9 am this past weekend, and we weren't disappointed: not only did w score a packet of curds, but we also got inside intel on where we could get some during non-Market times. I couldn't wait any longer: I popped the packet open and chewed on a curd. Within seconds, there was a definitive 'squeak!' and my soul sighed with joy. I had found my local curd haven. We decided to air-fry some curds, dipped in a basic batter-breadcrumb mix, as part of dinner later in the evening, and we didn't regret it. My only regret? We finished the packet in a day. We're not talking your soft and mushy standard cheddars, we're talking moldy, earthy, flavor-packed, made in the Heartland goodness. And it's not just the cheese this place gets right- the European cultured butter and herded frommage spread left me holding shoveling it with a spoon when no one was looking. They've only been open for 3 months so my mind is running wild with how successful this business is bound to be. I was one of the lucky Yelp Elite that got to attend a meet-the-maker event at Tulip Tree Creamery! In the words of our Lego friends, "EVERYTHING WAS AWESOME!" Before the clock struck start time, we had full plates of cheese, salad, and all the accoutrements you can imagine. Wine, beer, we had it all. After a thorough tasting and how-do-you-do, we were introduced to the Tulip Tree Creamery team. I would be hard-pressed to find another such dedicated team. The owner, Fons, has such a wealth of knowledge and passion for his craft. Every single one of us lucky enough to join this event pretty much fell in love. And it wasn't just his accent either. How many of us considered quitting our jobs and working for Fons? Everyone. After a wonderful story about his background and how Tulip Tree Creamery began, we broke out into groups to enjoy stretching homemade mozzarella, frying cheese crisps, and the much-anticipated... cheese aging room! I cannot even begin to describe the overwhelming amazement that accompanied the tour of the cheese rooms (hard and soft). Seriously. Being in a cheese aging room is one of the top things on my bucket list. I kid you not. And this sealed the deal for me personally. I'm so happy they allowed us to purchase cheeses of our choice at the end of this awesome event. I'm a cheese lover for life. And a Tulip Tree Creamery fan for life as well. After sampling and purchasing cheese after cheese at the Broad Ripple Farmer's Market, I finally made the trip to the mecca. For Valentine's Day this year, my boyfriend and I purchased tickets to the special Valentine's Day Mozzarella Class that Tulip Tree was hosting. I've never made cheese before, so I was entirely unsure what was to go on in the 3 hours slated for the class. When we arrived, we were greeted by a warm and smiling staff member (Morgan), who directed us to sign in and help ourselves to some cheese/snacks. And oh boy did we. I believe they had 8 cheeses out and just as many other accouterments for us to devour. Yum! The class was also BYOB so we were able to enjoy a glass of wine while we tasted some cheese. To be clear, they don't serve full meals or anything at the class, but then again they made sure we knew that beforehand and told us to bring our own food if we wanted. Morgan kicked off the class with a presentation about the history of Tulip Tree and the romantic origins of cheese. That was really neat because I learned a lot about cheese, and I love learning! Plus it gave some background for when we started making our own cheese. Next, we headed to the "lab" in order to begin the formation of our mozzarella. The staff led us through all the steps at a comfortable pace, and didn't make anyone feel silly for asking what were somewhat obvious questions. Another plus was that we got to meet and get to know other people in the class, because we were partnered with another couple at our cheese making table. In the end, somehow myself and everyone in the class was able to go from zero to hero and make some delicious cheese! CHEESE, glorious cheese! Oh y'all, I quickly learned that my store-bought string cheese does NOT hold a candle to the rich & creamy Tulip Tree delights. I could eat it for days on end. Restraint is difficult. I have yet to try the holy grail Trillium, but if the beer cheese I've had is any indication, all their cheese is the bomb. I couldn't really "taste" the beer flavor but it added something to the mix. Pair it with crackers, make a grilled cheese...aw man, who am I kidding. Just eat it with your hands! Find 'em around town at lots of specialty grocery stores (Wildwood, Rail, R2GO) and farmer's markets. Do yourself a big favor and check out that queso! read more

Went to a cheese making class as a birthday present with a couple of friends. REALLY enjoyed my experience. As we walked in, they had cheese and crackers already on the table. They told us they traditionally do a charcuterie board but due to Coronavirus, each person had their own. I actually really liked that I had my own and recommend that as a permanent change! One goal for them while you're there is to buy cheese. Having my own gave me enough to try everything and I ended up buying some cheese to take home. The cheese on the plate were not labeled, but they had descriptions of each laid out in the order they were on the plate. This was super confusing as we had some trouble figuring out what was what! The cheese making class was so much fun and the teacher did a great job of showing us what to do and watching over us, while still giving us room to do it on our own. The making process was super informative and the staff was close by to give everyone assistance. I was also a little under the weather during my class and they were awesome about lending me a hand. The women who ran our class at Tulip Tree clearly care a lot about what they do. They are so kind and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about what they're doing. Indy folks are very lucky to have such a special business in their backyard! They also offer tours of their facility and have cheese available for purchase. But really, this is, plainly, just good cheese! I hope I can purchase their products in Ohio because they were honestly exceptional and very memorable. What a fun and delicious experience! My work team and I recently met up at Tulip Tree for a class on making cheese from scratch! How cool and yummy is that?! We arrived to a beautiful display of Tulip Tree cheese alongside assorted jams and apples slices, crackers, bread, and a few other pairings. It was BYOB so, on top of all the delicious food we also got to enjoy some bubbly. After we all filled our plates and mingling for a little while, the class got started. We were signed up for queso blanco and mozzarella and our instructor for the evening was Morgan. She was such a fantastic teacher and host. She had us laughing the entire evening and I learned so much! Before we got our hands dirty, Morgan gave a brief presentation on the history of Tulip Tree and how the cheese making process works. Then, we jumped right in! Our group was split into two and I love how competitive we all got, each team wanting to make the best cheese in the quickest amount of time. However, in order to do that you had to follow the instructions to a tee! It was super fun! I really liked stretching the mozzarella before forming it into a ball. It all tasted so amazing too! I've never eaten cheese that fresh before. It was crazy delicious! After we finished making our cheese, Morgan gave our lovely group a tour of their facility. It was quite a stinky experience but it was totally worth it! My favorite part was seeing the various kinds of cheese they make all at different stages of the process. There is really a lot of time and consideration given to every individual piece it's truly an art form. I became a lover of Tulip Tree after taking a Gouda cheese making class. I highly recommend taking a class. It is very hands on and you learn so much while doing it. Like how to really pronounce the name of Gouda! For our class we all got a huge wheel of cheese!!! The cheese had to do its thing for 30 days and then you go back to get it!! While there you will also get to sample... who doesn't love sampling????? My faves are Fromage Frais, Nettle and Hops beer cheese!!!! SO GOOD!!! I bought a wedge of the Gouda at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market over the weekend. I can hardly wait to buy more next weekend!

As a child cheese came in individual slices and was put in between bread bologna and mayo. As I grew and got older, cheese came in zip packages with 4-5 flavor selections and was used for macaroni and cheese or to be put on top of baked potatoes or broccoli. Then when I got older, I really thought I was sophisticated with local specialty grocery store cheeses. Now my cheese vocabulary grew and I really thought I knew something. Then Tulip Tree Creamery entered my life....OMG!! Tulip Tree is only a year old, but once I met the owners and his Tulip Tree Family, I realized that these were seasoned cheese crafters. The experience shows in the intricacies of the flavors within their cheese. Touring their creamery really helped me understand how much LOVE is infused in each and ever pound of cheese made. There are no intricate robots or conveyor belts, its all hand made and crafted. The flavors are deep and varied and make you want to keep coming back for more....like for real come back for more. I really love cheese, first of all. Like a lot, like I have sat down and just ate a wedge of cheese for lunch, like an animal. So obviously, I have a lot of cheese experience- and I am comfortable in drawing from that to say this cheese is really good. I have had the tiger lily before and it is great, especially spread over toast or melted and shoveled into the mouth via cracker. I recently tried the foxglove and GREAT SCOTT it is the best cheese I have ever had. It is pungent and salty and soft and perfect and I might be in love. If you like cheese you should buy this. I will however offer this warning: this cheese SMELLS SO BAD its like rotting dirty diapers and will FILL your fridge with cheese stench even after you, desperate and gagging, wrap it up in clear wrap and then put that in a small ziplock and then, panicking, put that into another ziploc. Is it worth it though? Yes 100%! Iwould recommend that one buy a mini fridge just for this cheese to live in. read more

Be adventurous and try the Foxglove double cream, a soft pungent ecstasy-enducing cheese that will blow any store-bought brie out of the water. Don't be afraid of the reddish rind, created by Tulip Tree's mixture of cultures and yeasts (not to mention 3 Wise Men's Hubbard & Craven's porter). Tulip Tree is legit; the owner is from the Netherlands and worked at such illustrious places such as Cowgirl Creamery. Foxglove is a cheaper, just-as-tasty version of Cowgirl's Red Hawk...please bear with my obscure cheese-a-holic references. If this rave for Foxglove still hasn't convinced you, please be advised that there is something almost sensual about ingesting this cheese, scent and all. Share a plate of Foxglove, grapes, and a spicy red wine with your partner(s)...you'll see. If you want a safer choice, you can't go wrong with Tulip Tree's fresh mozzarella or the less-funky Trillium. Tip: the mozzarella is typically sold out fairly early at Broad Ripple farmer's market, since everyone and their brother are making caprese salads. However, you then get a chance to experiment with something new (i.e. Foxglove (!) or the habanero-stuffed Snapdragon). read more

What a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon! We attended a mozzarella making class and had a blast!! We were so pleased with how interactive the class was. There was a perfect balance of hands-on instruction (still COVID-19 safe!) and down time for munching on our cheese plate that came with the class entrance fee. We had several cheeses each to sample and plenty of crackers, nuts, and salami to pair. We also toured the facility and were able to see the aging rooms and ask any questions about the process. We ended up coming home with a fresh ball of mozzarella each, enough curds for about 4 more balls in the future, and plenty of other cheese souvenirs! We went into class with the goal to make a homemade Mac n cheese when we came home and it was super helpful to have a direction for what dish we wanted to make so the cheese recommendations from staff were spot on. We can't wait to come back and take another class in the future! We are now big time fans! read more

Since when did artisan cheese exist in Indy?! I came home with my wife and daughter from China to Indy for a visit and visited the Broadripple farmers market where I had the privilege to try a few (well, basically all) the cheeses they had on offer. They were all lovely but we bought some of the Dutchman's Breeches (which looks weird but is wonderful) and Foxglove to eat during our stay. Between us and my mom we went through it pretty quickly. We visited the farmers market again before we left and bought some Larkspur which we brought back to China. When we move back to Indy full-time I think I'll likely get some pretty much weekly. I go out of my way to support local businesses but it's much easier when the product is so stellar. read more

After hearing such amazing things about Tulip Tree cheeses and cultured butter I stopped in to try some at the Binford Farmers Market. Could the rumors of pure cheese bliss be true? Holy Moley Indiana! I was instantly in love with their Trillium, a fine smooth creamy cheese with characteristics similar to Brie. I was already imagining myself with family & friends enjoying a cheese board with slabs of a cheese trifecta Nettle, Larkspur Blue, Trillium enjoyed with a few glasses of Beaujolais. The cultured butter is also as equally delicious. This past week I was caught red handed eating the pleasantly sweet salty goodness directly from the tub. My husband just shook his head at me unable to comprehend how butter could be so marvelous until I shared the experience over sweet corn and roasted root vegetables. Now he is also a believer! Nowadays it seems like whatever Hoosier-made sandwich or charcuterie board I'm noshing on has Tulip Tree sliced or spread on it, and this girl is NOT complaining. Have you tried the Trillium?! Tulip Tree describes it as a cheese that's "gracefully ripened", but my interpretation is "opulent and velvety". Never have I eaten a cheese so luxurious! There's also the new Snap Dragon, another mold-ripened cheese filled with habanero peppers. If you like heat, you'll be blissfully perplexed by the taste of this cheese. How does someone create such balance between the stink and the heat? I might not ever receive the answers to my questions, but one thing's for sure: I won't stop digging my knife into Tulip Tree's products! read more

OMG I love cheese. Looove cheese. So when I see a cheese-tasting station for Tulip Tree at the broad ripple winter market I'm like totally in heaven. I think I occupied their cheese board for almost an hour. (sorry folks!..haha). My top favorite is the cultured butter. This tastes just like European butter. Spread it over some toasted bread and MMMM! They also make some fantastic goat cheese. Normally I think of tea when I see nettles but this herby goat cheese treat was delish. If you like funky feet cheese they have that too. Everything they do is awesome. It's the real deal. read more

I would like to start off by saying that I have a true Dairy Allergy. I am not going to tell you that their product is safe for people like me but what I will say is that people like me will disregard the risk and eat it anyway. Wowza soooo good. You can taste the love and energy that goes into the product that they make. The owner and workers are so amazing willing to talk to you about anything and answer your questions. If you love cheese you have to try their stuff and become a fan. If you are allergic grab your epi-pen and do not eat unattended. You'll eat so much it's so good you may need someone to drive you to the hospital. Please eat cheese responsibly. This review is not encouraging unnecessary risk to your health. read more

I've died and gone to heaven. The cheeses we sampled at the Yelp 10 Minute Talks were Fromage Frais and Trillium. Interestingly enough, I was just talking to my boyfriend the other day, saying that I had eaten too much cheese (brie, specifically) that I might be turned off of it forever. I lied. The Fromage Frais was soft, and creamy. It easily spread onto crusty bread and tasted so heavenly. Fun fact - it pairs quite well with Broad Ripple Chips. The Trillium, much like Brie, was so smooth, silky, and rich. So thick and luxurious! I could not get enough of it! When you eat these cheeses, you taste the earth. No artificial flavors, colors, unnecessary preservatives. Its one of the most pure food experiences one can have. I look forward to trying the rest of their lineup! read more
