Pleiku has become a favorite spot, particularly for dinner before any downtown event like the symphony/opera/ballet/Temple Square performances- very convenient location to any of those. It has low lighting, lo-fi music, staff who are just the right amount of attentive, and overall chill vibes. I think everything on the menu is probably excellent, but some notes: 1) fresh spring rolls are the best in the SLC area, either shrimp or carmelized pork. The sauce is the perfect spicy/savory/nutty mix. 2) the Vietnamese salad bowl with carmelized pork is outstanding! The included egg rolls are some of the best ever- so crispy and savory. 3) the xoxo noodles, without onions, and the mini pho cups- get these appetizers and you won't regret it. A large basket of veggies, the most delicately crisp rice crepe with, again, another unforgettable sauce! I ate this like lettuce wraps which I could not resist eating a ridiculous amount of! My waiter even ran after a patron who forgot his sunglasses, coming back a couple of minutes later after finding the man and returning his property. Stopped here during a layover from Mexico to California. I was surprised at how delicious their pho was, and at an affordable price! Went to this place on a whim and was glad I did! Service was pretty quick and food came out fast. I feel like they get a lot of business professionals at this restaurant. The ambiance was very ~dark~ and classy with the smooth jazz playing in the background. As for the food, I got the bún thit nuong (Vietnamese salad bowl? Or something like that on the menu) and it was quite yummy! The portion sizes were reasonable, although I am not a fan of the spinach they include as a veggie, I much prefer the classic mint leaf! Food was amazing! I had the pho with beef and brisket. Flavorful soup, soft noodles, and both beef and brisket were tender. Also the soup was very hot which is important to me. The crispy egg rolls were amazing! Freshly made and tasty, and the fish sauce was perfectly made. Service was on point. There were two servers and they were attentive to all the customers in the restaurant. I like their water pitchers, it was quite unique. The ambiance of the restaurant was also perfect. Lighting was dim to set a nice dining experience. The music was light and volume was not too loud so that you can have a nice conversation with your table. Ambiance: nice, warm, dimly lit restaurant that really helps you focus on your food. There is nice lo-fi style music which I am a big fan of. Everything is clean. Plenty of space to sit. Service: I stopped by around 6 pm on a Wednesday, and it was not busy at all. I seated myself, and the waiter took my order within 5 minutes. They checked on me a few times, definitely not too intrusive. Food: I am from SoCal so have eaten very good Vietnamese food from OC. I was not expecting the food here to be so authentic tasting! I had the Bun Rieu, and it was spot on for my taste. It was a little on the bland side, but you can definitely request fermented shrimp paste to season it yourself (which is what I did at home growing up). The mango mojito was a fantastic refresher after the salty, rich Bun Rieu broth. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Vietnamese food in the area! read more

Lovely in every way. Service was polite and attentive. Food was fresh, attractive, and delicious. Atmosphere is classy but also warm. A very minor complaint is that it's very hard to eat food with metal chopsticks, because everything slides off (luckily, they also provide a fork). I had the pork vermicelli, which is my favorite dish at Vietnamese restaurants. This is a bit different than what I've gotten in other places - the pork is a little chewier than the roasted pork I'm used to, but it was still tasty. The vegetables were lovely and delicious - they had spinach leaves instead of shredded lettuce, which is a wonderful substitution. Got caught by surprise with a new schedule so had to find a place to eat that has vegetarian options without any reservations. Luckily Pleiku was there to save the day. We were seated right away. The place was about a 3/4 full. First time coming to a place, so I tend to over order to explore the menu. For appetizers, we had vegetable potstickers and the calamari. The potstickers were crispy and delicious. The calamari was good but not amazing. The batter was crispy but a little bland. The sweet chili sauce helps for sure. For entrees, we got the bun rieu and sticky cauliflower in hot and sour sauce. The bun rieu was very good. The broth was flavorful. It definitely feels authentic but with a great mordern spin. The portion was also huge. As for the cauliflower, it was fried really well. The problem was with the hot and sour sauce that just taste one dimensionally as too sweet. The Phở here is absolutely amazing, I always ask for the Phở broth to be extra hot (boiling not spicy) and they always do it to perfection! The egg rolls are also amazing! Maybe carpool to this one because I had to park in a paid lot and then when I was waiting for my friend some dude approached me and told me he'd written the book I was reading and someone stole his ideas and was profiting from them... Aside from that! Once my friend arrived we were seated immediately. Service was pretty quick. I asked about gluten free options and the guy vaguely gestured at one side of the menu and said anything in a wok couldn't be made gluten free... so I decided to just be safe and get pho. The pho tai was pretty good. The broth was flavorful. The meat was fine. Lots of raw onion I think should have been on the side. Good amount of noodles so you probably don't need to pay the $3 for the extra noodles. My friend enjoyed his caramelized pork sandwich. He said the bread was crispy without being overly hard or flaky and the veggies complemented the sweetness of the meat. He did say the side of chips wasn't great. TLDR; the only reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5 is because the ambiance is kinda weird, it can get really quiet which i'm not a huge fan of. Other than that, this is one of my favorite vietnamese spots. If you're coming here, go straight for the street cart fries, bun rieu, and vietnamese coffee. Bun rieu has been one of my favorite noodle soups for a LONG time, and the bun rieu here is BANGIN. It comes with a whole softshell crab on top. The street cart fries don't really have a great equivalent in standard vietnamese cuisine but the flavors all make sense and are also BANGIN. The ca phe sua da here is like a gift from heaven and I could probably down 3 glasses with every meal. Last note, the pho broth isn't as fatty / beefy as I would like but if you get the bone marrow pho you can use some of the fat from the bone to spruce up the broth. Very good. read more

Or do I want something fresh and light, but end up hungry two hours later? Pleiku let's you take the best of both options. The carmelized pork was delicious, and the egg roll was still crunchy and warm despite being in a to-go box. The bulk of the box was full of fresh crunchy vegetables that complimented the pork and egg roll, so I got a bit of both in each bite. Not sure what has kept me from this place for so many years, but I was glad to have an opportunity to finally eat at Pleiku before a show the other night. We were seated right away and while the interior certainly isn't brand new, it's still a nice vibe with lower lights and we dug it. I had always thought of it as a small plates spot, but the menu only has a small section of tapas, with a lot of Vietnamese dishes (or Vietnamese-adjacent) rounding out the menu; think pho, noodles, etc. We ordered four tapas and the standout was by far the Asian fries--sort of a pho-on-fries approach with the veg and sauce. We had the walnut chicken (I forgot what they call it, snowball maybe?) and it was good, but a little heavy on the sauce. They didn't have too many other diners while we were there so it was nice to have quick service. We were in and out in like 40 minutes, with plenty of time to get us to the show. read more

I decided to get off my ass and discover the hood for lunch and I found pleiku. I haven't dined in for a while so this review is for my for takeout they serve me each time. My favorites are the lettuce wraps and the pork rice bowl. The egg rolls are delicious and each element make this the best plate I've had so far. Service for takeout has always been fast and efficient. Haven't tried the pho so I can't review on that but everything else has been fresh and tasty. Good packaging and fair pricing. My review is a tad bit late, however, I feel remiss if I do not compliment this place as this was our go-to restaurant when we visited Salt Lake City for a 4D3N tour. I believe we may have enjoyed this place' food more than once. Coming off the tram from the airport, we stumbled upon this restaurant. Seeing how there's quite a number of people eating and, given the hunger situation spouse and I are in, we indulged ourselves. Pleiku is at the opposite of Cindy Lee, its predecessor. The former offers Asian fusion food, while the latter provides traditional Chinese and Vietnamese food. The vegetarian dumplings have thin, crispy skins, but they have a relatively small and dry filling. My friend prefers Cindy Lee's version of pho, which is heartier and has more MSG. In addition, the space is now transformed to a hip place. Previously, Cindy Lee that mainly caters the lunch crowd is closed early at night and in the weekends. Now, Pleiku is open late in the weekends, offering another option for snacks and drinks. All in all, while I am not a fan of Pleiku's food, I am glad to see an Asian restaurant in downtown. read more
