First, for a divey-style bar, the barkeep was really friendly. And they have good drinks. He made a stiff dirty martini, an espresso martini, and a few of their Mezcal-based "Smoke and Berries." Outside, we feasted on cheap eats from (I can't remember the name), but we ordered everything from tacos to nachos to fries and I think empanadas? Great music, great lighting, service, and drinks. Highly rec.

From the jump, the energy was chill but not boring... lights were warm, music had bounce, and the whole place felt curated without being corny. Bartender energy? Different. No menus needed... we gave a vibe, he poured what matched it. Not sure what was in the glass, but it slapped. You ever drink something so good you start reevaluating your life choices? That. Clean pours. Balanced. Not over-mixed. Just enough sweetness to get you in trouble. Crowd was mixed, stylish... looked like people who know where to be without needing to post about it. The seating's cozy enough to post up and talk but open enough to float around if you're trying to socialize. It had that lounge-meets-night-out energy. Bathrooms were clean... that matters when the drinks are flowing. Never felt like a dive. Never felt like a bottle-service trap either. It's got identity... almost like a cocktail bar that grew up on rap albums and old money. It's giving... if Frank Ocean curated a bar playlist then dipped out the back with your ex.

We seated ourselves at a booth since it wasn't quite busy and that just means more room for our food and drinks to spread out *teehee* The cocktails were amazing my cousin ordered the espresso martini which she loved they make the espresso fresh. I went with a gin cocktail that had coconut flavors something I would never consider with gin but if you read my reviews you know gin is my preferred spirit. It was so good! For two people we ordered three types of empanadas we probably could have gotten away with two flavors and maybe a lighter tapa or desert but really wanted to try the cheese and guava empanada and didn't want that to be a main option in case we didn't like it. Needless to say we really liked all three: picadillo, arroz con pollo and guava and cheese - the picadillo was the favorite however both for the inside flavor and the accompanying dip. Pricing is not bad I'd say the serving and size of the three empanadas for $14 is a great price.

I ordered a cuban sandwich which was good but I guess I expected it to look more appealing on a plate such as with garnish. Since it was the middle of June it was already hot outside at a cool 105 degrees temperature. We were surprised to see the restaurant had the front door propped completely open letting the hot air into the restaurant. Since this is a small restaurant you really couldn't escape the heat. The heat unfortunately caused us to leave after a short while.

We got there about 15 minutes after opening and were surprised to see how long the line was at the bar. Turns out they only had two bartenders working and they were taking their time with each patron. We were served by Jared. He was super cool and very personable. He gave us the history of Malinda Curtis (she ran a brothel in the late 1800s) before telling us about the cocktail list. The drink menu is small, but creative. The menu changes each day (they're only open on Fridays and Saturdays) with the exception of the Old Fashioned. Jared informed us that they don't repeat drinks so you have one opportunity to try one of the specialty cocktails for that day. I had the No Soup For You which was a watermelon gin cocktail. It was really good and refreshing. My friend had the Jiminy Cricket which was a mint and chocolate vodka drink. Both drinks were very pretty. The furniture and decor had an early 20th century feel and was on par with the prohibition era. There's a decent amount of seating, though it filled up fast. The music that was playing was good, but very loud. We only had one drink because we didn't want to stand in line again for a second round. Despite the wait, Melinda's Alley was a cool spot to start our night.

While the staff who were serving could have said "hey, we actually close very soon," I was really more disappointed with the managerial staff member ushering us out. I am doing two stars and not one because the bartender was nice enough and the three sips of my drink were actually really tasty.

Our friend lives down the street and she heard good things about Legends Never Die. This spot is a small, 20 seat speakeasy. From Roosevelt St it's easy to miss, as a speakeasy should be, hidden in plain sight. When we located the door we walked in, not sure how busy it would be, luckily we noticed some seats right away. The server walked up and asked if we could wait outside, she needed to "reset" the space. Another group walked up after us and I let them know we were in a que of sorts, and apparently 2 other people standing outside off to the side we ahead of us. So, that was just a strange way to start off. We didn't wait long, around 10-15 minutes. Once inside, the service was okay, it felt a bit rushed and slow at times. Like it took a bit for the server to come back and take our order and then the drinks came out so fast, I wondered if the drinks were all pre-batched. Which is not necessarily bad if they were, my drink just didn't seem interestingly presented or having any craft cocktail flair. And all in all, I liked the dark, vibey interior with good music playing, and I thought the cocktail menu sounded inventive but at the end of the day I thought my drink was fairly basic tasting and I didn't get any of the flavors noted in the description. The other 2 drinks at our table were better. I didn't get any chai, banana, or almond butter tastes, just a solid old fashioned. I had hoped some chai or banana would be notable. I would definitely come back and see if there are other drinks on the current menu that have stand out flavors for me, since this is a cool bar.

We ordered a few things but my favorite was probably the ceviche or the Caesar, both were well dressed and I kept reaching for them. Honestly, all the food here was really great and came out so quick I was very happy. Unfortunately I ordered a Diet Coke that never came, but to be fair I did it after everyone had already gotten their drinks, and the server wasn't ready to write it down. Something that really bothered us though was when we asked the server if they do anything for birthdays and they said yes. We received two different desserts and were really happy until we got the bill and realized we were charged for one of them. We would've been fine without dessert and definitely didn't ask them to bring out two, so that was a little upsetting.

The staff was knowledgeable and took the time to explain the menu, making the experience approachable even for a first-time visitor. I decided to try one of their signature kava beverages, and I was pleasantly surprised by how intriguing and complex the drink was. The flavor profile was unlike anything I had experienced before--earthy, bold, and distinctive in a way that felt both adventurous and refined. More importantly, the effects were exactly as described. As I enjoyed my drink, a gentle sense of relaxation gradually settled in, leaving me feeling calm, centered, and remarkably at ease without any sense of heaviness. What I appreciated most was how the experience encouraged mindfulness and connection. Lacuna offers something refreshingly different from a traditional coffee shop or cocktail lounge, creating an environment where conversation flows naturally and relaxation takes center stage. Whether you're curious about kava for the first time or already familiar with its calming properties, Lacuna Kava Bar is absolutely worth a visit. The combination of a welcoming atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and a truly distinctive beverage experience makes it a standout destination. I left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and looking forward to my next visit.

I brought my sister--who is visiting the city for the first time--to Spin Room to celebrate. The situation escalated when the server threatened to have security escort us out simply for addressing the poor service. While the head of security did eventually offer an apology, he did absolutely nothing to rectify the situation or address the server's hostility. As a business owner, I find it unacceptable that a venue would allow staff to threaten paying guests who are attempting to spend premium prices. An apology without action is meaningless. This experience completely soured our night and left a terrible impression of Phoenix hospitality. Bartenders were friendly, drinks were pricey (but such is life these days). Lots of millennials & GenX'rs so no immature behavior of youngins who act like they have nothing to lose, which was great! I was really surprised that for a bar/club that size they served drinks in glass. Signs this was a mature vibe. Loved the music, dancing & just being able to vibe with my girls w/ no funny business. We returned next day (Sat) & didn't bother to go in. Completely different crowd & dress code was "anything goes"....so we skippped it. Will return when I want a dancing night out but ONLY for the 90's night.
