I came to check out this cute little restaurant for the first time today. The food was fine and the two girls up front were so polite and helpful. my biggest issue was that this one man, I assume was a cook, looked like he kept making inappropriate advances towards one of the young girls. She looked so uncomfortable and uneasy it was disgusting and this man looked like he was having so much fun with it. What a hidden gem we stumble on. 2 restaurants that we wanted to go to were closed on Sunday so we turned around and went to Pluto's. We were planning to get hot dogs but last minute we switched to the Gyro platter. It was outstanding, and piled high with everything. Lots of meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, sauce, feta. A hidden gluten free gem with a drive thru! They have gluten free hamburger buns, hot dog buns, and pitas! This allows you to get almost everything on their menu including a cheeseburger, hot dog, and chicken caesar pita. They have all beef hot dogs and ice cream too! Way overpriced! Got a dbl. cheesburger with everything, ate it there, when I took a bite, there was no tomato on it. I went up and asked for a slice of tomato, they were going to charge me .60 cents. I called ahead with an order of 5 sandwiches and some sides. I had to repeat the order several times because the person taking my order was distracted. When she finally repeated it back it was correct. When we picked it up, 4 out of 5 sandwiches were wrong and a side was missing. I called, they had us bring the wrong food back and remade it. They remade a sandwich wrong and forgot the side, again. An hour later, half our food was cold and we had to drive back and forth twice and we didn't even get an offer to replace the cold sides or anything. Pluto's was a great place to dine. The staff was friendly and informative, the decor was charmingly space themed, and the food was really good. We had a tamale which unfortunately was dry and the low light of our food. Their hot dogs are award winning in Chicago, didn't disappoint, but it is not a must have if you need to travel far south for it. The gyro plate was fantastic. The tsatski sauce was a little thin, but full of flavor, and we built 2 humongous gyros with all of the meat and extra pita. While the inclusion of lettuce was odd, the inclusion of feta cheese was great. The chicken sandwich was the star of the show as it appears fresh breaded and has robust flavor along with its juicy inside! We also tried their triple burger which was fantastic, steaming hot, and on a real good gluten free bun . Speaking of gluten free, they have a robust gluten free menu and take it very serious as the owner's son has gluten issue. All in all Pluto's is a fantastic treat from top to bottom. I love Plutos! From the food to the workers here who tend to remember who you are. I haven't got a chance to dine in, but I usually prefer a quick pick up. I absolutely love the Gyro's from here, I always used to pick up one for my grandpa with some feta on the side, and mind you they are very pricey, for a whole meal it can usually be around $20 and that's more then any place in Oaklawn. That's the only downer, but their food is hot and fresh every single time! Despite the rising prices the food has never been a disappointment. read more

I have eaten at Pluto's from time to time ever since they opened, and today was the first time I actually sat down inside the place. I swear the experience was so good I had to write about it! First, the gentleman at the register (owner, perhaps?) told us he was filling in for someone who had called off, and he was remembering what to do at the register. No problem...he was doing a great job. So once my family and I ordered, we found a booth by the window and they brought our food out to us. The same guy who was at the register brought everything out, and let me say that I love when restaurants are passionate about their food. He clearly enjoyed letting is know that the Italian beef is fresh, as was the pulled pork I had. He also let us know the chili is homemade, and it clearly tasted wonderful. Let me tell you...when someone is this passionate and clearly enjoys serving people his/her food, that makes the experience all that more enjoyable. You want to know how good the chili was? My 82-year-old mother-in-law gave it her stamp of approval...and it takes a lot for her to show people love when it comes to food! Anyhow, my wife and I split the chili cheese fries, I had the BBQ pulled pork with bacon, my sister-in-law and my wife both had a burger with mustard and raw onions, and my mother-in-law had the Italian beef/sausage combo with giardinera and chili. The food was awesome!!! You know when food is so good that you have to do that thing where you let your stomach relax and expand? That was us today. One more thing, though I do not know the aforementioned gentleman's name, his passion for his food really made me take notice. I know thst some people have said in their reviews of Pluto's that the food is expensive...but I would argue that the food is excellent and the customer service was even better. I visit Pluto's quite often when I am in the Oak Lawn area. I love that they have the 3 options of walk in, dine in and/or drive thru. No matter your order option, the food is always served fast, hot, fresh and tasty. I have enjoyed the polish sausage with mustard and onions that is a Chicago classic and Pluto's gets it right. Delish. The 21 shrimp basket is also delish. The fries always taste great. They are served with seasoning salt, which is good, but if you're not a fan, make sure you ask for no salt when ordering. Since I recently developed a gluten intolerance, I was bummed out thinking I'd never get to eat at Pluto's again. To my surprise driving by, I saw the most beautiful words displayed on the restaurant's sign that said "try our gluten free pita bread"!!! Thank goodness!!! I enjoyed the gyro and the pita bread is delish! Tastes no different than regular pita bread. Since I am a rice lover, I also enjoyed the rice pilaf as a side and also poured it all over the gyro. The chicken was just chicken, no seasoning. The"gyros" sauce tasted like it was just yogurt. No seasoning, no lemon, no feta, just plain yogurt flavor. The onion and tomato were fresh, so that's good. I unwrapped my sandwich and it was just a sad lump of bland. Look at the picture. The fries were waaaaay over-cooked. They were dunked, at least twice. I used to work fast food so i'vr grown a palet for a double dunked fry. Half the bag was beyond crispy. Definitely one of the better beefs around. They make it in house and it is seasoned to perfection. Good meat, not stringy. Excellent juice. The store is very family friendy. Incredible food. Anytime I am in the Oak Lawn area I treat myself and my family to this restaurant that offers a lot of fun in a kid-friendly environment. Most importantly to me though, is that the food is actually Really Good! It is clear that there is something extra special going on in that kitchen. I ordered food every Saturday for about a year for my elderly parents. The food is good which is why I gave them 3 stars. Grub Hub was our mode of delivery during the pandemic. We ordered 3 chocolate shakes every week, but one Saturday only 1 shake was delivered. Mom asked the driver about it and was told to contact Pluto's. Mom called Pluto's and spoke to Arely who told her to contact Grub Hub. Mom said she just wanted the 2 missing shakes but was told again to contact Grub Hub and was promptly hung up on. Mom called back again and Pluto's wouldn't answer the phone. Luckily we were compensated by Grub Hub, but all they really wanted were the 2 missing shakes. I ended up going up and paying 1.65 for an extra pita and taziki sauce I could make a whole extra gyros. Great value!!! It was very tasty too. Coleslaw was good BUT I had to take mine back up... there was barely any cabbage "lettuce" and I don't enjoy drinking the sauce. Got a new one, not much better which is a shame because it did taste good. People are whining about the fries. They are fries at a hot dog joint. You are lucky they even have seasoning on them. The food here is just ok. Gyros are above average, but everything else is average food fare. Nothing will wow you and the fries are usually not good. My first complaint is their inability to custom order a sandwich, like no tomato or no lettuce, they've messed this up several times. My next and biggest complaint, and this goes to all restaurant owners, find a floor detergent that is unscented. Pluto's likes to mop the floor, they seem to do it around lunch and dinner time, and they use a disinfectant scented soap that makes every member of my family want to gag while we try to eat.
