We like to sit at the bar in restaurants and chat with people. Last night, we enjoyed chatting with the bartender Carol and her friend who is another local. I started off with a killer dirty martini! Carol knows how to make a good one! She, the cooks and entire staff are so appreciated! They were a lot of fun. Carol was so nice, very attentive and saw to every need of her customers. They offer Happy Hour 3-6:00 which included OYSTERS, raw or chargrilled! So I had both...raw and chargrilled. Terry stuck with the grilled. The raw oysters were amazing! Plumper, meatier, creamy and mild and less briny than East Coast NC and VA oysters. These are the kind of oysters you also want to fry! They were so perfect and so delicious! Next came out the Chargrilled Oysters...drenched and grilled with a melted Parmesan, Garlic, Herb Butter Sauce and served with slices of warm, garlic French bread to sop up the hot butter sauce that pooled at the bottom of the tray. Oh my oh my oh my! Shut the front door OUTSTANDING! Terry and I relished every single bite, I may have been moaning as I kept saying how delicious they were. Perfection on an oyster shell. We shared 2 doz chargrilled plus I had a doz raw with cocktail sauce and freshly grated horseradish. I seriously think I could have had more oysters! I did some searches, found this place on Google, and decided to give them a shot. I was ordering for multiple people, so I ended up getting 2 po-boys, a falafel wrap, and baklava. One of the people who got a po-boy said it wasn't regular mayo on the po-boy, but rather either tahini or tzatziki. Now mind you, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but could be jarring for someone not expecting it. The falafel and baklava were mine. I thought that the falafel wrap was good: flavorful and saucy. It was a bit messy, but I seem to always make a mess when eating falafel sandwiches. I was excited about the baklava, but unfortunately it wasn't very good. Maybe it had been sitting for a while, I don't know, but the flaky pastry had lost some of its flakiness/crispiness and had become a bit chewy instead. One odd thing is that you get your food bagged at the checkout counter, which is separate from the food counter. This doesn't sound bad in theory, but meant I ended up carefully holding 3 hot sandwiches, a small takeout container, and a menu while waiting in line at the checkout counter. The man at the register was very friendly though, and recommended their chicken shawarma; I'll have to try that at some point. It bears mentioning that along with food and typical convenience store items, this place also has a meat counter/market. They sell things like raw steaks, ground meat, turkey wings, pork necks, chicken drumsticks, sausage, etc.
