We have wanted to try Trejos Tacos for awhile now, and finally got our chance when we were in L.A at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. It is maybe a mile away so gave us the perfect opportunity. We got there for a late lunch which worked in our favor. There is a tiny parking lot in the back which fits maybe 3 compact cars and one handicap spot. There is some street parking, but not a lot. We were able to get into the tiny lot which was lucky. We stepped inside and there is a small amount of seating inside, but the patio is large with lots of seating and it was a warm day in L.A, so we welcomed the chance to be outside. We explored the menu, made our choices and placed our order. The young woman at the counter taking our order was so nice, very friendly, gave suggestions, and offered her thoughts which was much appreciated. Mr. Bee ordered the Baja Taco, we ordered the Mushroom Asada Taco to share and I ordered the Cauliflower Taco. I love that you have options as a vegetarian for some really delicious tacos. They were filled with flavor and spice which was welcomed. The Baja Taco was delicious. It was a nice sized piece of fish fried and was perfectly seasoned. We were thrilled with our dishes. The tacos are not street sized either, you get a full 6 inch sized corn tortilla and they are filled to the brim with goodness. What a great experience at Trejo's Tacos. I have some mild food allergies and Sam made sure everything in my meal passed the test and even when to the kitchen to double check everything. The food was so so good. I got the surf & turf bowl. Oh and Trejos Cerveza went down nice and smooth on this hot summer day. Every employee here was ensuring the place was cleaned and tables were bussed, very organized. Everything in our order came out perfect. One of the coolest & hippest places in LA is Trejo's Tacos, owned & ran by actor Danny Trejo, & after seeing his social media video clips & posts, we HAD to come try it! The service here is great & the employees told us the history of this place & told us that Danny is an awesome guy. He uses this location to film a majority of his videos for social media. Since opening this location & it being so popular, he has opened another one, plus a cantina, & also a donut shop! The ambiance is soft & very inviting as well as welcoming. There are tables both inside & out, as there is a patio perfect for outdoor dining. They do have Happy Hour & Taco Tuesday deals as well. The food here is amazing! We got the taco combination that came with two tacos of our choice, rice, & beans, & two sodas. Our tacos were carne asada & they were very good! The meal was it was pricey but well worth it! The only downside here is the parking, because this location is right in a residential neighborhood & the parking lot is small & technically only for employees but they let us park there since we told them it's so hard to find parking & there are minimal spots on the street you can park or else you park a few blocks away & walk. The only genuine Danny Trejo taco restaurants and cantina are in Los Angeles. Don't be fooled by the ones in Orange County with the Trejo name. We visited the Mid-Wilshire location on La Brea. They do have a small parking lot with room for a few cars. There was plenty of street parking available on a Sunday afternoon. There are about six two-seat tables inside. There is a good sized outdoor patio that is shaded with a few two seat tables and a good number of bench tables. Everything was clean and the restaurant has a nice modern look. We started out with the chips and salsa. This comes with the most generous portion of chips I think that we have ever had at any restaurant. Likewise, the salsa came in a huge cup that almost seemed like a full pint. The chips were fresh and had a good salt sprinkle on them. The salsa had good flavor and a light heat. For only $6, this was a bargain. In addition to breakfast, appetizers, salads, and entrees, they have a large menu of over a dozen proteins and veggies, and you can get them in taco, burrito, or bowl form. We came to try the tacos, so I had two with protein and she had two veggie based. Each taco is served open faced on its own plate, actually kind of a metal tin, which is nice since the tacos won't drip all over each other. Each taco comes with a slice of lime and a few slices of radish. The tortillas were very fresh, and nothing was messy or greasy. Steak asada: Pepita pesto, verde slaw ($6.75). It had a good portion of meat that had very nice flavor. Spicy shrimp: Diablo sauce, pickled onions, verde slaw, and vegan avocado crema ($6.50). The shrimp were cooked well, and overall a very good tasting taco. However, the Diablo sauce was surprisingly mild and I would have liked it a lot spicier. Young jackfruit: Vegan avocado creama, pico de gallo, verde slaw, and tortilla strips ($5.75). She really loves jackfruit and loved this taco. I had a bite and it was surprisingly good for a veggie taco. It had a surprising background heat also. Cauliflower: Vegan avocado creama, roasted corn, pickled onions, and tortilla strips ($5.75). She liked this one a lot also, but could have done without the corn. They have a salsa bar out on the patio with the bottles of salsa on ice. The salsa roja had good flavor and a nice medium heat. The habanero was my favorite, and had a light sweetness with a strong heat that sneaks up on you the more you have. The third bottle was salsa verde, but it was empty. The two staff members we encountered were friendly. We enjoyed sitting out on the shaded patio with the good music they had playing. We enjoyed the tacos, but they are a bit pricey at $5.75 to $7.25 each. They do have taco Tuesday with buy one, get one so that would be a great deal to take advantage of. Packaging of the food is excellent, from picture of the owner (also a well known actor) on the bag to signs around the city. There in another location in Farmers Market; the line at that location was packed! Awesome picnic tables in the outdoor seating area; I felt I was eating in someone's backyard, very inviting. I had a pleasurable experience getting my snack at Trejo's Tacos. I redeemed my birthday treat of Chips and Guacamole and ordered one Chicken Taco. The Guacamole was chucky, flavorful and had just the right amount of heat. The chips tasted delicious with the fresh guacamole and tasted oh so good! The Taco was so so tasty. I don't know if it's just this location or what...but some of the worst tacos I have had. No flavor. Not hot. Just mediocre all around. Especially at the price point you expect to get good food, perhaps the quality was there because food seemed "fresh" but nothing was seasoned. My husband and I moved back to the LA area less than a year ago from the South Bay. We have been slowly trying local food spots. We've passed Trejo's Tacos a few times and finally decided to check it out. Location is on a tight corner. Parking is not great. VERY small lot for maybe 4 cars IF that. We had to park down the street & walk to Trejo's. Not a bad walk but had to cross with a lot of traffic going by. The restaurant, itself, is clean & vibrant. There are some cool souvenir/gift options for purchase. Trejo's also sells some Trejo cookbooks, Trejo hot sauces and even Trejo TEQUILA! A few tables inside but ample patio seating. We visited when it was a lil chilly so inside was preferred. Staff is super chill and personable. I feel like they are all having a 'sesh' in the back, lol. In a good way, though. My husband is a taco kinda guy so he ordered asada tacos, carnitas tacos and a shrimp taco. He doesn't do sauces or creams so his tacos were pretty much tortilla and meat. He was open to the pepita pesto. Shrimp taco was meh, carnitas tacos were 'ok'. Asada tacos were the best. Meat was flavored well even with no sauces. I ordered the asada bowl which comes with asada, rice, beans, slaw & pico de gallo. I was pleasantly pleased! I topped it with some Trejo's hot sauce that is on the tables. It added a nice lil kick and flavor. I would order again. Trejo's is not your typical street taco spot so don't go there with that expectation. It's more of a healthier taco option with a twist. Fun experience to try Trejos Tacos I came on a Saturday (or Sunday). Street parking was found quickly but the parking at the restaurant has like 4 spots plus handicap spots. We had a bowl and a burrito, price was good, I will not say reasonable because come on... everything is pricey! Burrito was a pretty big size. My bowl was filling and had lots of shrimp. I was very impressed with the food here! Being Mexican, I prefer to go to a taco truck or a small handful of restaurants that I know of but I always wanted to try trejos tacos and Danny Trejo is actually a really good person so I really wanted to support him. I had heard mixed reviews about the place but I had to try for myself and was surprised. Food was really good!! I had a burrito and also had their bean dip with chips, suuuuuper good. Don't go here expecting traditional Mexican food, it has a twist but the food is very tasty. I can't wait to go back and try some other stuff from the menu. Definitely excited to try this well reviewed taco joint while in town! We arrived at dinner time and it was decently busy but had tables available. The booth to order at was a little odd as we felt we were standing in the way and not much room for a line, but the employee made quick work of our order and helped us answer a few questions about the menu. The ambiance outside was enjoyable with beautiful weather, clean tables, and a dimly lit patio. Our food arrived quickly and there was so much flavor! The Pollo Frito Quesadilla was amazing, so tasty and the right amount of heat and crunch. Definitely my favorite! My boyfriend enjoyed the surf and turf burrito and my favorite taco was the carnitas, spicy and sweet. Prices weren't average for the LA area. $15 Burrito and & $6.50 per taco. I'll start by saying that I'm not sure why everyone else is complaining about bland, high priced food. I like going to the cheap spots and food trucks too but this isn't that, so be prepared to pay. My husband and I ordered delivery on Uber Eats and our food was hot and delicious. They had to drive all the way downtown in rush hour traffic so that's saying a lot that it was still hot. I got the chicken tinga burrito with a side of guacamole, he got the fried chicken burrito bowl and it came with some salsa which was also good. My chicken tinga was cooked perfectly and was shredded into good size pieces. The burrito also had rice, beans, corn, and cheese in it. Although I asked for my burrito to be made without cheese and without tortilla strips, it still came with cheese on it. I'm lactose intolerant so I took a lactaid pill and was fine, there wasn't a crazy amount of cheese but noticeable - it was also tasty so I didn't complain. My husband enjoyed his bowl and the chicken was crispy and well seasoned. Both of our meals were pretty big so we didn't need sides. If you're looking for something quick and easy or if you're in the neighborhood and you're craving something filling and yummy I'd say this is your spot. read more

The food was really good but small portions and very pricy. My wife and I ate two tiny meals and two Coke bottles for $51 but that's LA I guess. The guy behind the counter was dry, personality free, and robotic and didn't get my order right. It' look really nice and the place is clean but you're right next to a car repair shop and a busy dirty street, again that's just LA I guess. Let's start with the positive. The lady who works the front counter is nice and very helpful. As for food it came out pretty quick. Maybe a little too quick it was pretty fast but maybe they are very good cooks. As for ambiance the place is chill it's a cool spot and they made it look nice. As for the negative as for the pricing I feel for the amount I'm paying for the bland Surf and Turf burrito $17 at least come with some chips. The burrito was ok the saving grace of the burrito which actually surprised me was the Trejo Original Mild sauce that was gold and would definitely but it. Wanted to try Danny Trejo's food venture as I've been reading up on his work/projects and was super excited to try Trejo's Tacos, but unfortunately I was not very impressed with the dishes. The best were the chips and guac and agua frescas, those tasted fresh and were the highlights for me. As for the tacos, I found that the seafood options were way better than the meat options, and felt more original as well. Both the steak asada and chicken tinga were a tad bit try, and the overall sauces were okay. I respect Trejo's vision in offering healthier taco meat alternatives, but unfortunately it fell short for me. Coming from Oxnard in Ventura County- we have tons of restaurants and taco trucks with different regions of deliciousness. However, we have a similar place local to Ventura County called Spencer Mackenzie's. I loved the greenery, I liked how they had a small salsa bar and water dispenser. Placing my service, a woman asked if we were dining in or taking out. Hubby and I said it was for dine i and we seated our children inside the establishment as opposed to dining out in the patio. Placed our order: Tacos- Baja, blacked salmon, spicy shrimp, and carnitas. The tortilla could use more grilling, barely had any veggies. Carnitas was juicy though. The seafood did not have much flavors. Fried chicken burrito- my kid liked the crunch in the fried chicken and devoured half. Kids meal fried chicken and tater tots- my youngest managed to finish. We tried it and it was ok. Margarita with tajin- cashier said alcohol was only served for dine in and I told her I'm dining in (kids were literally behind me sitting down). She told me as a matter of fact that she can't serve me alcohol unless it was for dine in. I had to clarify, I am indeed dining in. Iced tea served unsweetened; ask for sugar to sweeten. Horchata was sweet and refills are $3 Service was good and the gentlemen in the establishment were working hard. Come with an open mind. It is indeed made in Los Angeles so be open to the concept if you decide to eat here, you are not getting authenticated tacos but it may be for you! It wasn't for us, unfortunately. read more

And the shareable 2 chicken chipotle taquitos, I didn't like the flavor and they didn't put a lot of cheese on it, would've probably made a difference. The service was decent, the cashier wasn't rude but also wasn't very inviting. The table we sat at was a little sticky but after we were done eating the cashier came and took our plates pretty quickly. I really thought this place would be a bit more gritty and "street taco", instead it was more "mexi-Cali taco" in my opinion. I ordered the fish taco, it came with mango salsa and cabbage. It was ok. The street corn was a little sweet and lacking something. Chips were chips but I liked the salt and lime zest sprinkled on top, salsa was ok, zero spice level. Trejos hot sauce was not picante, nor was it spicy. Had more of a smoky chipotle flavor which was fine, but not for me. This restaurant was very clean, well lit and have a nice atmosphere. I am glad I finally got to try. But if I'm going out for Mexican food.... I'll go somewhere else as this would not satisfy that craving. Also, try to find metered street parking ($1 for 2 hours). What I got: horchata, surf and turf burrito, chicken taquitos and street corn. Corn was meh...underseasoned and had a bitter after taste. Shrimp.was nicely cooked and flavored but the steak was chewy and sparse as well as the other ingredients. This dish was also underseasoned. Chicken taquitos were dismal. I've made better from the store in the frozen food section. Horchata was watered down and under flavored. My total was 65.14 and the meal was unimpressive. I like my tacos tasting like tacos. Classic ingredients: cilantro, onion, maybe some red sauce... That's it. To me that's the taco I grew up with. No pineapples or any crap like that on my tacos please. But I get it, some people like that kind of stuff, so if you do, this is your place! HOWEVER, I'm a sucker for their breakfast burrito.
