Came here late one night driving back from an event since I've only heard good things. I got 2 tacos (asada and cabeza, 1 pollo quesadilla, a bean and cheese burrito and small bag of chips and guac. Everything came out to about $26 which is super reasonable! Service on a later end of the night was great! Super friendly and quick service. No indoor dining was available since they were closing in 15 mins. Food was ready in less than 10 mins. Salsa is free which both were delicious and had great flavor. Overall the food was delicious! I feel like I must be missing something? I've seen Sonoratown on so many lists and guides for best Mexican so we finally decided to check it out. We ordered just a couple tacos - one asada and one tripa, based on reading numerous recommendations that those are what to get here. $3.50 a taco which is not bad for a restaurant taco. It's a cool casual vibe here. Seating inside as well as the patio. They have tasty looking horchata and other agua frescas. Colorful walls. They bring your food out to you by calling your name. The tacos were loaded with a pretty decent amount of meat and toppings. But sadly we were far from impressed by the flavor. The asada was okay and better than the tripa, but it paled in comparison to our go-to taco trucks in the area which only costs $1. And the tripa was strange to eat in taco form. The tripa is crunchy small pieces so it just feels odd to eat in a taco. Maybe if it was just served as an appetizer to eat by itself, but even then, it kinda just feels like you're eating pellets. TL;DR: Asada Burrito was good. Quesadilla was small and was like a messy taco in a different form. Food is good. We've been to the downtown location before and the menu was a little different from what I remember. Hard to find parking sometimes. Only counter seating inside with about six tables outside. Wanted to snack on chips while we waited and there are only two sizes: small which is a bag you would put a sandwich and chips in like when you were a kid taking lunch to school, and a large which was a big bag that you would buy like a part size Doritos with the labels and all. Note to the non-spicy fam: the green salsa is mild with a little heat but the red is definitely spicy so watch out. They don't have pico de gallo. We had an asada burrito which was surprisingly packed and even had guacamole in it. Appropriately sized for lunch so not some monstrosity but it's good and flavorful. We also got an asada quesadilla. It's ok but the cheese is just melted and everything was kind of "wet" still and hard to eat because it just falls apart. Also had an asada taco. Yeah it's good but can't really describe if it was much better than a taco truck. No fountain drinks but got a Jamaica agua Fresca and really felt it was too sweet. Probably just go with a Mexican coke or canned soda next time. Sonoratown is good and worth a trip back as well. They won't compete against taco trucks but sometimes it's nice to just sit down and relax with good food. read more

After church, I was craving tacos, and my friend recommended Sonoratown, conveniently located in a plaza. Parking was a breeze, and we were greeted by friendly staff as soon as we arrived. I came to Sonoratown on a Sunday evening. It's located in a small plaza on San Vicente. Upon entering there wasn't too many people and had to think of what to get. They have a small-medium sized menu. Staff is very nice and welcoming and even helped me with what drink to order. For food, I ended up ordering the steak quesadilla. And for the drink, I got the mango agua Fresca. They have a good amount of seating in the back area of the restaurant and seating outside. I sat outside with my friend and an employee brought out our food. First off, the quesadilla was delicious, a perfect amount of steak, the tortilla was soft and you could tell it was quality. The spicy salsa was hot and guacamole was plentiful! Along with my agua fresca, it was a great meal. My friend ended up getting the burrito and it was delicious too! A good option for a bigger portion item on the menu. The prices for items are very reasonable! I paid under $10 for a quesadilla and agua fresca. I was so tempted to try the bean and cheese burrito but it gives me an excuse to come back and try more! By the time we left, the line was LONG! You can tell it's a popular place and for good reason. Not your average LA street tacos. Sonoratown serves burritos and tacos wrapped in flour tortillas. As a flour tortilla fiend, I was in heaven my first visit and even grabbed an extra cabeza taco to-go and a pack of their fresh flour tortillas. Everything from the salsas to the agua frescas are so fresh and made with great ingredients. The staff here is great and so welcoming. I have tried much of the menu and my favorites are the cabeza and pollo tacos. They are so tender and packed with flavor. The bean & cheese burritos are simple but delicious, which says a lot about the menu. I love stopping by for lunch, a quick midday snack, or late-night bite. There's also a bar in the back and a shaded outdoor patio that's perfect for soaking up the sun with amazing food. Parking is available in the small lot out front. If full, the lot turns over quickly, or you can easily find street parking in the neighborhood on the next street over. If you're passing through this side of town, make the stop. We ordered carne asada burrito (more filling than it looks), asada tacos, cabeza tacos and a tripa taco. We had the horchata and jaimaca agua fresca. Everything tasted great. The carne asada was amazing as expected but I was surprised how much we enjoyed the cabeza. My son gave me a bite of the tripa taco and it was fried tripa so it was crunchy and tasty. The cabeza burrito 2.0 will be living in my dreams for quite some time. Just perfection! This place is amazing! I've been wanting to check it out for a while so I went in with some co workers - the place is casual and festive and colorful with friendly service and also definitely a popular spot when we went for lunch it was packed. There are some tables outside and some counter seats. As mentioned I got the cabeza (braised beef) burrito - think the most tender short rib but so so flavorful, can feel the love that went into making the meat, every bite was so good - and it had beans and cheese in a fresh tortilla that was grilled to perfection. Taking my visiting friend as she wanna try tacos in LA and I knew Sonoratown was one of those I loved in town that had nice seat down space. Not expecting it to be that busy on a Saturday night but parking was tad tough and there's quite a line for ordering. The service was pretty speedy despite the hectic crowd, which we really appreciated! Getting their tacos with cheese, one with chorizo and another with cabeza. Beware!!! I'm honestly really upset about this. I had been to Sonoratown multiple times and genuinely loved the food. The tortillas tasted amazing, the quality was great, and I even recommended the place to friends. Then I found out the flour tortillas are made with pork lard. What makes this especially disappointing is that this is NOT clearly disclosed anywhere inside the restaurant. For people who are Jewish, Muslim, vegetarian, or simply do not eat pork for religious or personal reasons, this is a huge issue. I would have never ordered the flour tortillas had I known. I understand traditional recipes may use lard, but customers deserve transparency. There should either be: - a clearly visible disclosure in the restaurant and on the menu, or - a vegetarian/vegetable oil flour tortilla option available. It's honestly heartbreaking because the food itself was incredible, but finding this out after eating there several times made me feel sick and betrayed. This could easily be avoided with proper labeling and consideration for customers with dietary and religious restrictions. If there's one taco spot in LA I'll happily go out of my way for, it's Sonoratown. This was my first time trying the mid city location(I'm usually a DTLA loyalist), and I'm happy to report it hits just as hard. Same warm vibes and friendly service, and that familiar smell of fresh tortillas. We ordered a couple burrito 2.0's with asada and a caramela taco with chicken, plus a horchata made with coconut milk to wash everything down. The burrito was loaded with perfectly cooked meat and packed with that Sonoran style flavor. The caramela taco is still one of my favorite bites in the city. The horchata was cold, creamy, and perfect palate cleanser between bites. Will definitely be back soon ordering the same thing without hesitation. read more

Delicious!!!! Came in with my family since we were in the area. My sister said they had really good tacos, so. We came in around lunchtime which was pretty busy! The line did take a while, but once we ordered food was ready sooo fast. I got the Lorenza and made it vegetarian and my fiancé got tacos. My family got tacos, and tried the caramelo. Food is 10/10 so delicious! Everyone agreed it was very delicious! I wish they had photos of how everything looked because the Lorenza was just a tiny tortilla, so you'll probably need more than one lol. Ordered takeout and this place was yummyyy. Great prices (which I feel like is really hard to come around in LA) and steak burrito was delish. It's kind of a smaller portion for a burrito but it was honestly the perfect size for me I was still full after. We also got some chips and salsa which were good - the salsa was really spicy but in a good way it paired perfectly with the salty chips and burrito. My friends wanted to dine here over the weekend so we made the drive all the way to Downtown LA to come eat here. This place is in a plaza with limited parking so we had to park on the street and walk here. The place was busy but most people were taking to go so we were able to get a table in their outdoor seating area. My friends mostly got tacos and Carmelo for their food. I got the carne asada burrito and customize it. The place has the soda in a glass bottle so I just got a cola. They brought out the food to us and it didn't take long. My friends like their tacos and I thought the burrito was very tasty. I got the red sauce which wasn't spicy and the green sauce is more mild. Chivichanga is my favorite. Had both beef and chicken but my favorite is chicken. Taco, quesadilla is good as well. Lorenza and caramelo were good as well. 3 visits in total. The food had great flavor and was priced very reasonably. I ordered the Burrito 2.0 with asada, but because the burrito was only $12.50, I was worried it wouldn't be enough food, so I also ordered the chicken Chivichanga. The burrito was a good size and the asada was perfectly grilled. Next time I would get 1 taco on the side because the Chivichanga was overkill. Sonoratown isn't reinventing the wheel. Their menu is simple and the execution is perfect. A burrito at a popular spot like this could easily be $18 and people would gladly pay. I really respect the effort to keep prices low. The service and staff here is fantastic. Everyone is super friendly and they bring your food to you walking through the restaurant looking for you. I came here because I heard from multiple foodie sources that these were just the best tacos in Los Angeles and when I arrived, the place was packed like I was expecting, but to be honest I just thought they were good tacos. Not great, not bad, just just good tacos. Actually my chicken tacos were sort of overcooked and dry but not terrible. I really don't get all the hype about it but everyone seemed to love them. I'm conflicted the meat tasted pretty good but seemed like it was not freshly prepared like it sat in a pot full of waiting for an order. And most importantly, delicious, fresh, and authentic burritos. The asada and the tortillas are what make this burrito stand out. Went here with a group of friends on a Friday night. This was my first time here and was looking forward to eating Sonoran style Mexican food. Not all Mexican food is the same and Sonoran style is my favorite. The place was super busy, but the long line was moving pretty quick. The staff was super friendly and helpful in answering questions. They all were busy and focused; both in back and front of the house. A+ to all of them. I ordered three tacos (2 Costilla and 1 Pollo) and they were great. Good size tacos with plenty of meat and flavor. They were warm and very fresh. Unfortunately, they don't have rice which would have complemented my meal so perfectly. Hopefully they'll add rice at some point. My friends all loved their meals, too. There was a Costilla Burrito, a Pollo Burrito, a Chorizo Quesadilla, a Pollo Quesadilla, and sides of beans with chips and salsa. There is also a small bar with limited seating that's accessible from inside the restaurant or from the outside. None of us had anything from the bar. There is a small amount of seating both inside and out. We were lucky enough to grab an outdoor table adjacent to the parking lot. It was a typical beautiful LA evening.
