Was in the area and this place had great reviews so I thought we'd give it a try. Felt vey welcoming. You entered the restaurant through the outside dining area. Which was very nice. Was greeted at the counter and given menus to order there and then we could sit wherever we'd like. We ordered the mar y tierra burrito and a carne asada burrito. We also ordered a cup of chicken tortilla soup and 2 sides of rice. The burritos were perfect!! Meat was tender and savory. Shrimp was cook perfectly! The beans and rice just added the perfect flavor to the whole burrito. Rice was also very tasty. The only thing for me was the soup. It could have used more seasoning for my liking. Good surf and turf burrito. Steak and shrimps were well seasoned and cooked. The rich and creamy sauce paired nicely with the pico de gallo giving each bite a lot of juice and flavor. My only issue is that at these prices the burrito should be bigger or at least come with side of rice and beans. The premium is just too high and I feel unsustainable given how many Mexican food options we have in LA for fast casual and also street dining. These prices are sit down restaurant prices. I ordered the Rib Eye Taco, which had a flour tortilla containing juicy Angus ribeye steak, pickled red onions, and chunky guacamole. The staff has always been friendly and very quick with service. I recommend trying the pepino con chia and horchata de pistache drinks, absolutely delicious. What caught my eye is the mar y tierra burrito, and oh my goodness, I fell in love with it. It's perfectly seasoned, and has a lot of shrimp and steak, quite filling to be honest. First time my partner and I shared one burrito, next time we didn't eat all day and each got our own :) They have complimentary chips as well dining in which are seasoned with a nice spice blend. I understand some people might think $20 for a burrito is too expensive but it's worth the experience. It's important to take into consideration that most restaurants do not appeal to everyone. It's hard to cater to every palate, and I truly believe Sonoritas has done something beautiful and the flavors are so well balanced. Their prime taco platter is also fun to taste test. Shrimp was juicy, well-seasoned, and the star of the show. It wasn't cheap for $20+ but they're generous with the protein and avocado. Even the romaine was crispy. The shrimp really blew the beef out of the water, so next time I'll probably just order it with shrimp alone. My partner got the taco sampler with the filet mignon, shrimp, and bbq beef tacos (ranked in that order). They said it was the best shrimp taco they've ever had and it wasn't even breaded. The only miss for me was the Horchata de Pistache. I'm a sucker for pistachio anything, but it tasted kind of like how hobby lobby smells around Christmas. Not terrible, just not for me. I came here on a Tuesday night with a friend. We didn't make a reservation but it wasn't super busy, picked our own table and we were able to order at the counter when ready. Everyone was SO nice and thoughtful, it really felt like they put a lot of care into everything they did here. I ordered the chicken burrito with no beans and a hibiscus margarita! The hibiscus margarita was SO good and thankfully not too strong. I'm not much a drinker and I usually avoid margaritas at restaurant because they always taste a bit too strong - this margarita was JUST RIGHT The chicken burrito was seriously phenomenal. Each bite was perfectly balanced with every ingredient, there was never an instance where I was biting into only rice or only tortilla or something - SO GOOD. For dessert, we ordered the churros with ice cream and they were sooo tasty. I very rarely choose churros as my dessert of choice but I was SO satisfied with how they were prepped. So soft, yet still some crunch and a great drizzle of carmel and chocolate was an excellent addition to it. The atmosphere was also very lighthearted, there was faint music playing but in general, it was never too loud in there. We ended up staying sooo long after eating that we were there until closing! Even though were chatting it up as they were closing, they so kindly let us continue our conversation and they didn't make any moves to rush us out the door - it was so nice that we initially didn't even realize they were closing This was seriously a lovely place to catch dinner with a friend and yap & eat the night away. I used to really enjoy eating at Sonorita, but my experience today was extremely disappointing. I ordered the Mar y Tierra bowl, and it was honestly terrible. The food was cold, tasted old, and the meat was very fatty. The bowl only had four tiny shrimp, and the whole plate felt like it had been sitting around since lunch because it arrived cold. I've had this dish before, so I know what it's supposed to be like, and the quality has definitely gone downhill. Today it was basically inedible.
