Was craving Mexican food on our trip down to LA and picked this place. They have an outdoor patio seating and in-door. We chose outdoor since it was humid and stuffy inside. I enjoyed their complimentary chips and salsa, but keep in mind only the first round is free. Any other rounds after is an additional charge. The food at Sonoritas Prime Tacos was amazing--flavorful, delicious, and honestly nothing negative to say about what we ate. The only reason I can't give five stars is the environment. It was extremely hot inside, and although the AC was on, you could barely feel it. We eventually moved to the patio, which was still warm but at least had a little breeze. I do want to recognize the young lady working the front and cashier. She was very kind and attentive. I was there with my mom, who is a senior citizen, and when she saw how hot we were, she immediately offered us two cups of ice-cold water. I also asked about fans or additional cooling, and she was very honest that the AC was on but just wasn't keeping up. I really felt for both her and the cook working in those conditions. California's Cal/OSHA indoor heat protections begin at 82°F and include measures such as water, cool-down areas, and preventative cool-down rests when needed. With this Southern California heat, I hope management or ownership looks into stronger AC, fans, or better airflow for both employees and guests. One FYI: this location is on Sawtelle, surrounded by lots of restaurants, so the area gets very busy and parking can definitely be challenging. The free chips and salsa, this one actually has good seasoned chips and the salsa is also a good balance of acid and spice, We frequent this area for Japanese food so I'm surprised that it's here and I know it's good because it was very busy on a Saturday afternoon. I drove my son and his friend to melrose and they wanted to eat Mexican food before we drive back and my son's friend chose this place. I was in the Sawtelle area and this spot stood out for me on Yelp so I rolled by for a taste. You enter through a nice looking front patio and order and pay at the register first and then you grab your seat. The service was efficient but average, without any smiles or welcoming notes. From food, I ordered the surf and turf burrito with easy rice and easy beans. When it arrived to my table, it looked beautiful. As I took my first bite though, the beautiful showcased shrimp was just barely warm and the guacamole made the burrito slightly colder as well. Good surf and turf burrito. Steak and shrimps were well seasoned and cooked. The rich and creamy sauce paired nicely with the pico de gallo giving each bite a lot of juice and flavor. My only issue is that at these prices the burrito should be bigger or at least come with side of rice and beans. The premium is just too high and I feel unsustainable given how many Mexican food options we have in LA for fast casual and also street dining. These prices are sit down restaurant prices. First time my partner and I shared one burrito, next time we didn't eat all day and each got our own :) They have complimentary chips as well dining in which are seasoned with a nice spice blend. I understand some people might think $20 for a burrito is too expensive but it's worth the experience. It's important to take into consideration that most restaurants do not appeal to everyone. It's hard to cater to every palate, and I truly believe Sonoritas has done something beautiful and the flavors are so well balanced. Their prime taco platter is also fun to taste test. Service was fairly quick and you get free chips and salsa while you wait. Not much to comment on regarding service given the style, but we didn't want for anything and the woman who took our order was polite. I looooooved my Mar y Tierra bowl (w/ added beans). Shrimp was juicy, well-seasoned, and the star of the show. It wasn't cheap for $20+ but they're generous with the protein and avocado. Even the romaine was crispy. The shrimp really blew the beef out of the water, so next time I'll probably just order it with shrimp alone. My partner got the taco sampler with the filet mignon, shrimp, and bbq beef tacos (ranked in that order). They said it was the best shrimp taco they've ever had and it wasn't even breaded. The only miss for me was the Horchata de Pistache. I'm a sucker for pistachio anything, but it tasted kind of like how hobby lobby smells around Christmas. Not terrible, just not for me.
