I had seen their Tiramisu French Toast ($20) featured on Instagram, and I was looking forward to trying them. My first bite of food was actually my husband's Chilaquiles ($17), and it was the perfect first bite. So flavorful with the perfect amount of salt. That French Toast didn't let me down either. Good balance of flavor without feeling overly heavy. The only thing that would have made this breakfast more perfect was if they had flavored lattes on the menu, but I wasn't interested in any of their coffee menu options.
We love Pochos! They don't take reservations, but we've never had to wait long for a table. There's always parking in front. Everyone is really friendly and accommodating! Food is fire!! I get the same thing every time (Chilaquiles all the way) and it never disappoints. We also love the empanadas, and I am an empanada snob. Drinks are good, cafe de olla is delicious. The Frutas french toast is also yum. My only note there would be consistency in dipping--sometimes it's a little dry because they use thick bread (how it should be!), so it just needs to be dunked for a bit longer. We asked them if it could be remade once and they didn't hesitate, so that shows you their level of service :) We love this place and everyone should make it their regular brunch spot!!
I am very pleased to report, while not cheap, Pochos breakfast is not a crime. For those who don't follow my reviews with religious fervor, here are the cliff notes: I believe places that charge $14.95 for two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, a spoon of potatoes, and maybe a dry pancake are committing highway robbery. I ordered the Chicken French Toast with Habanero Maple (who is surprised, let's see some hands in the air). If I permit myself to be 'that guy', it wasn't perfect, but it was still something I'd happily order again. The piece of chicken was large enough that 'massive' is not an inappropriate term. Despite its size, it was cooked and seasoned well, tender inside, and hot and crisp on the outside. The Challah French Toast was delightful! The Challah had a light sweetness and a lovely custardy interior, for the most part, at least. One of the quibbles I have is the inconsistency of the slices. One was the thickness of two fingers, and another the thickness of my pinky. The result is that the custard didn't quite penetrate to the center. I'd also like to point out that it didn't have the crunchy exterior a technically perfect French toast has. I'd also like to award massive brownie (toasty?) points for the housemade compound butter and the habanero maple syrup. The latter especially brought some unexpected punch! When it comes to their service, it was quick, friendly, and attentive. More than that, the food came out faster than I expected, a pleasant surprise especially given that nothing had spent time under a lamp. Finally, I need to introduce the elephant in the room, [deep breath] the prices. On the surface, $22 for a piece of chicken and some eggy bread, and $5 for coffee is on the steep side. I cannot negate that. However, the quality helps make up the difference. Case in point, instead of using unbranded-diner-bean-water, Pochos uses Dark Matter coffee, strong and tasty stuff! Final verdict: Pochos may not enter my regular rotation, due to both their location and prices. However, I found myself planning a return trip before finishing my meal, which is a definitive indicator of a great experience.
Food: 10/10 DELICIOUS DELICIOUS Service: 10/10 no reservations when i dined it. And the server/host was very helpful in what was the best sellers Ambiance: feels like a local mom and pop eatery. Very authentic and feel home. I will definitely comeback.
This was some of the best brunch I've had in Chicago. We didn't have to wait for a table because there are more spaces inside than meets the eye. Our server was perfect. The food came quick. My favorite items were the aqua de jamaica (hibicus tea with orange juice) and the puerquito benedict (with slow cooked pork). The french toast was really thick and not too sweet, but I would have liked more syrup than the plastic container they gave. Need to come back to try the cilaquiles--looked very good!!!!
At 12pm on a Sunday, we only had to wait about 15 minutes for 2 people. The ambience is very chill, millennial-core. The food was pretty good, nothing amazing but nothing to complain about. I got the mimosa and puertquito eggs Benedict, both of which were tasty. Overall, a nice brunch option in Pilsen!
New favorite brunch spot? Quite possibly! Located in Pilsen with a name like Pochos, you're not sure what to expect... is it Mexican brunch, is it American brunch. Ni de aquí ni de allá. It's a fresh and hip brunch spot with delicious food with both Mexican and American flare Service was solid (our waitress was friendly), food selection decent (no huge menu), but the food was delicious! Both flavorful and made to order. We started with the chicken empanadas, max flavor, generous size for a starter. Mains: I'm salivating just thinking about the French toast. The chicken is also delicious and juicy! My husband ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, which has the same chicken and he loved it. We came during the week and during happy hour, which we didn't partake in, but it's nice that it's an option. It was busy for a random Thursday afternoon, but nothing crazy. I look forward to coming back and will definitely try their chilaquiles.
Updated Review: Decided to post an update for one of my favorite spots in the city, Pocho's. I always love coming back and finding that everything is just as delicious as the last time. Very cool welcoming atmosphere, and if you're in the front, they have a lot of natural light. Pocho's still has some of the best empanadas in the city. On my last visit, they had a special French toast that was so pretty I had to take a picture. The staff is always warm, friendly, and helpful. My sister and I have been coming here for years, often bringing our family along, and it's always a great experience. I ran into one of the owners the night before and decided to stop by the next morning for breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised the food was still just as flavorful and satisfying as ever. If you're ever on 18th Street, Pocho's is definitely worth a visit!
Amazing, amazing food!! Came to visit Chicago and was originally going to go to a different place for brunch but then found this place and decided to give it a try! The wait was not bad, given that it's a tiny place! We probably waited 20 minutes before being seated. The staff was friendly and super helpful answering any questions I had. We ended up getting some chilaquiles - omg! These are the best chilaquiles I've ever had at any restaurant!!! We also ordered their chicken sandwich and I'm not gonna lie, whenever I read chicken breast I do not have tasty thought about it. Boy, was I blown away at how delicious this chicken (breast) sandwich tasted!!! I'm drooling just thinking about it. I will definitely be going back the next time I go to Chicago!!
Amazing neighborhood gem! The food is delicious, service top notch, and $35 mimosa kit with fresh squeezed juice cannot be beat. Will definitely be back.
One of our favorite stopovers in Pilsen. Pochos delivered on the brunch menu. We ordered a few entrees and Michelada's (score on the happy hour side). Ambience, fast service and meal raised the bar, exceeded our expectations. Our favorite was the pork chilaquiles with egg and poblano verde hollandaise sauce. Portions were sizable and had enough for the next two days, takeaway. Thanks for the wonderful meal and service, Pochos!
Yummy! A quick Pisces Szn pop out to celebrate birthdays. I was in need of mimosas without having a reservation. A random Sunday Funday was in need. I ended up dining here, and it was well worth it. It was super cute and quaint in the inside. Bright upbeat and photo ready-esque. The vibe was right. The server who was a Pisces, that serviced us was super sweet and knowledgeable of the menu. I love when the staff has actually sampled the menu and have great suggestions. I ordered a mimosa, oh I forgot to mention it was national margarita day, so I immediately said double me up baby! It's time to celebrate. Their margaritas were tasty and made fresh no concentrate. I hate when margaritas are made with a premade mix, or premixed or concentrate. Oh please don't mislead meh. I love a freshly made Margarita. I prefer natural.
This was a cool spot for breakfast. The avocado toast was messy but tasted good. The server was attentive. Nothing stood out as being extraordinary and also nothing was horrible either. I would check them out again and try a different dish. My food companion said that she would have preferred to have all of her items combined as opposed to a la carte.
When I tell you the food here is so good! I was meeting up with a friend and decided to grab a bite. He was showing me the neighborhood and recommended going here.. so glad he sis! He got the Cubano which looked amazing... and I got the chorizo omelet! I loved every last bite... what I really loved is how flavorful it was without being overly pily or heavy.... Recently checked this place out while in Chicago and was surprised by it. The interior of the restaurant was very lovely from an ambiance perspective. Th service was good but it was slightly slow but I recognize it was super busy while we were there. The devil eggs were very yummy. We opted to get the burger and the steak chilaquiles. This is where they only get 3 stars. My burger was over cooked but the flavor was good. The steak was overcooked but they did refire it and it was perfect. I would come back and try it again because it was tasty enough. read more

I can for Saturday brunch while my mom was in town. They do not take reservations, but around 2 pm on a Saturday we were able to walk in and be seated immediately. Our serve was polite and we started off with iced coffees. I ordered the chilaquiles de pollo and my mom had the cubano sándwich. Our food was over all super tasty and the fries were seasoned so well!! Music was also a vibe the whole time. They have to go cups so we were able to take our coffees to go. read more
Amazingly good, food, service, ambiance, A1 quality steak was to my high standards and everything was good and by good I mean Delightfully the top 10 of breakfast places in Pilsen. To be honest I would come back to this place everyday because it has a good set of breakfast dishes. Not to say they also have lunch! Just to top it off come on in they also have great drinks. Reviewing again now that it reopened in a different location! The inside is much better than the previous location. Its decoration is pretty. Food is delicious. I'm a sweets person so I got the Frutas French toast and I recommend! It's not super sweet that it would be too much after some time. My family got some savory things they enjoyed. Walked in with no wait on a Sunday at 1pm for party of two. Everyone was super friendly. Food came out quick and was hot. Overall the taste was fresh and we loved the crispy homemade chips in the chilaquiles. The batter on the spicy friend chicken sandwich was light and crispy while the chicken was juicy inside. Chicken empanadas were fine, the exterior was buttery and crispy but I wished they did more with the interior than just stuffed with 100% ground chicken. Portions were generous which is great since the menu is on the expensive side. Everything ran a tad salty for my taste. Would come back to try the French toast! read more
Love this place, it's so cute, and the chilaquiles with grilled chicken are the perfect brunch! The spice plus eggs plus chicken plus beans are everything I want in a dish. The service has always been good, the vibe is exactly what I want for casual brunch on a weekday, weekend, whatever. The cafe de olla is also yummy, I've only had it in iced form. Incredible food! I had the steak skillet and it did not disappoint. The steak so tender and the chimichurri sauce went so well with everything in the skillet. What a great brunch spot! It was absolutely adorable inside. They had murals on the walls and plants. Pochos is easy to get to because it's directly off the pink line on 18th street. The service was great! We went at lunch time during the week and were able to get a table without a reservation. I couldn't find an up to date menu online before arriving, but they had a lot to choose from on the menu and it was easy to find something vegetarian to eat. I got the chilaquiles (with no additional meat) and everything tasted so fresh. read more
Another welcome surprise to my coveted & neighborhood which still has some hidden gems which is Pilsen. One thing worth mentioning is the French toast wasn't to my liking. Twas dry & I honestly believe they forgot sugar. The chicken breast was delicious. Seasoned to perfection, fried to perfection & twas a hefty portion to say the least. The habanero maple was a different yet welcome take on syrup. Star of the evening was the avocado toast. Mustard vinaigrette atop a gargantuan piece of sourdough with some fresh greens did the trick & probably ranks amongst the best avocado toast in the city. read more

Eggs dry, rubbery, not significant enough to even be on the menu. The spicy syrup was tasty. Coffee just ok, not enough creamer options, chicken very greasy with weird texture and certainly has a Hispanic taste to it. Underwhelmed. read more
Upon entry, I see that it is a very cozy place in here, but what really started my brunch experience off was the hostess, just standing there doing nothing, while the door is wide, open, letting all of the gusty Chicago winter air into the restaurant. I just can't understand why she wouldn't just go around her little table and close the dang door. I remember you Pochos, from McKinley park. Loved that location. Loved your gusto there. Here in Pilsen, it needs some work. I was willing to look over the cold gusty restaurant thing if the food was good I am here to say it was mids. The service was mid. The food looked good but it came out cold. I haven't had an unenjoyable food experience in a while and this one took the cake. What's sad is that now that it's here in Pilsen, the customer base is there, you just got to deliver. Every person in the restaurant was eating with their jackets on, it was an experience for sure. To elaborate let's delve into the food that we tried. The chilaquiles with the "spicier" rojo sauce lacked flavor and was not at all spicy and the steak on top, although came out to a perfect mid rare was cold upon arrival to our table. The shakshouka was runny and needed salt, also came out cold. The empanadas were decent and at least the coffee was hot. I am willing to give this place another shot but I will be sure they work out a few kinks first. read more

Came in for a Saturday brunch! Service was great and the interior was nice. Got the sweet cream coffee and the chilaquiles. Both were good but nothing blew me away or had a distinct flavor. My friend did enjoy her avocado toast though. Overall a decent spot! read more
I have visiting Pochos since their location by the orange line train station! I usually ALWAYS get the same thing, which is the steak and eggs because well...i REALLY like it and its one of those things where I found what I like and even though I want to try other things....hard to say no to it, aha. Luckily, my girlfriend gets a few different things and I try it, this time around, it was some chilaquiles, which were very tasty! (though not very spicy). It's a great atmosphere and semi-loud to the point where private conversations are pretty private since everyone around you is talking and having fun. People are always friendly and engage in conversation of its an interesting topic :) I recommend for people to check them out! A great spin on traditional mexican dishes with a touch of elevation. read more

This is a Pilsen gem brunch spot! Chicken and french toast are a must try. Serving portions are huge, so good to share amongst 2 people. The Chicken is not over battered; it is flavorful, crispy, and light. Inside is juicy, tender, white meat. I also recommend the deviled eggs and empanadas. The cafe de olla was not the best I've had. It had a bitter coffee taste, so I only drank half the cup. Other than that, excellent restaurant with friendly staff, and fast service. We'll be back soon! read more

The food was delicious and the cafe de olla was also good - my only very picky complaint would be that the chilaquiles I tried (red) weren't spicy but the flavor was . The service was on point and kid-friendly! It was a bit loud because it's busy but not overwhelming. Would highly recommend! read more

Looking for a cute, affordable, delicious, and satisfying brunch? HIGHLY recommend Pochos, they are doing everything right!! I mean look at the photos, the plates are loaded and gorgeous. The frutas French toast was the softest challah and doused in creme anglaise that was so decadent. I truly believe you cannot go wrong and every option is yummy and stunning. It would be the perfect place to start a Bridgeport adventure day. The service is of course excellent and I look forward to returning. read more

I loved our waitress, unfortunately I forgot her name. She was so sweet, patient, and personable. She and her assistant server consistently checked on us and made sure that we were enjoying our experience. The interior of the restaurant was so clean and very aesthetically pleasing. Definitely good for Instagram photos. They have an open kitchen concerto which I really like. We went during happy hour and we ordered 4 mimosas, beef empanadas, a Cuban sandwich, and fried chicken. The mimosas were decent, I wish that they used a sweeter orange juice. It was a bit tart, but who doesn't love a mimosa? Bring the orange tree out! The beef empanadas were so flavorful and delicious. The sauce that came with it was so so good. I need that in a travel size bottle for my purse. My mom is very picky, but she loved her Cuban sandwich and that's a win in my book. She raved about the sauce that came on the sandwich. My chicken tenders were crispy and the honey siracha sauce that came with it added a nice kick. I added garlic aioli on the side of my tenders and I dipped the chicken in the aioli and the honey siracha sauce, bomb. We will be returning. read more

We went on a weekday so it was quiet and we got the mimosa deal! So good! The French toast was delicious and a great price for the size. Also tried the empanadas which had a yummy sauce. Service was great and they are attentive. read more

This place is absolutely delicious and I almost don't want to leave a review so si can keep it to myself. Let me not be selfish though. Flavors were great and the cafe de olla was delicious. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for breakfast in Pilsen. Can't wait to go back! Super recomendable lugar con sabores sabrosos. Perfecto para desayunar si están en el area de Pilsen. Excellent chilaquiles, among the best I've had around the globe. Staff was kind and attentive. It's a small spot but worth finding. The murals are quintessentially Mexican culture. As a pocho myself i appreciated the dedication and meticulous attention to detail. High high recommendation. read more

I had heard great things about Ponchos for awhile, and was excited to try it out for myself. However, one of my friends recommended I go on a weekday since they are always packed on the weekends. I made sure to make time to go during my spring break - and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The space is quaint and cozy, yet also modern. I came with my friend and we both agreed that the staff was friendly and helpful, explaining what everything on the menu was. Because we came on a Thursday at 11:00am, we were seated right away. I absolutely love chilaquiles and heard that Ponchos' chilaquiles were solid. I ordered mine with chicken and green salsa. The dish came with a generous amount of chicken (which itself was very juicy and flavorful). They also did not skimp on the cotija and fresco. I also appreciated that the tortilla chips were not soggy at all! My friend ordered the cubano sandwich. She said the braised pork had so much flavor, complimented by pickles, swiss cheese, and a mustard aioli. Dining at Ponchos was such a positive experience. I can't wait to go back and try out more from their menu! read more
I've been a fan of Pochos since prior to their move to Pilsen - they have only gotten better over the years! At their new location, they have kept delicious classics, like their empanadas, which are packed with flavor. Their chilaquiles are another Pocho's classic that does not disappoint! But they also have new additions, like the mushroom or chorizo benedicts - both are to die for. Add a café de olla to the meal and you've got the perfect brunch. As always, service is kind and attentive. And the atmosphere feels energetic and lively, while also being relaxed and down to earth. Pochos is one of my favs! read more
