I enjoy tacos in all shapes and forms, and I've definitely enjoyed them over the years purchased from taco trucks in various cities. I recently had my first experience with Polo Loco (I know, I'm a little late to the game). They were at the Jaws Movies on the Block screening last night, and I couldn't resist trying a couple tacos even though I'd TECHNICALLY already eaten dinner ;-) I tried the PBJ (pork, black beans, jalapenos, cheese, sweet chili sauce) and the Napalm (chicken, jalapenos, Napalm sauce, cheese, Southwest sour cream). Both tacos are a play on a well-known combo, and both are successful for an Americanized taco experience. First off, you have a choice of soft or hard tacos. I went with soft, and got these babies served on smallish flour tortillas. An authentic taco is served typically on corn, but flour is also quite tasty in this case. The PBJ is pulled pork sandwich meets taco. It has a slight sweetness from the sauce and the pork, with a bit of spice from the jalapenos. It's quite tasty, but also a bit drippy, so be careful :) The Napalm reminds me of Buffalo chicken. It's chicken and a spicy "Napalm" sauce which is pretty much a version of Buffalo sauce. The cheese and Southwest sour cream combine to remind me of blue cheese dressing without the actual blue cheese. That creaminess along with the Napalm sauce is definitely reminiscent of Buffalo chicken, and yields a very tasty taco. I see lots of love here for the Grande Tacos, and perhaps next time I'll try one of those. I also know the Green Monstah tacos are popular, and maybe when I'm hungrier I'll grab one of those too. I'd happily visit Poco Loco on future occasions. Although their tacos are not traditional Mexican in style, they are very tasty and satisfying. They're also very cheap at $2 a pop! Caught them on a weekday afternoon by Kennedy Plaza (update your facebook!) by chance. Enjoyed the PBJ- a sweeter BBQ pulled pork taco with some heat from the jalapeños to balance it. The Southwest was a little spicy, but was missing something- could have been more flavorful. Decently fast service and plenty friendly. Can fill up for under $5, and feast for under $10. BLTaco. Yes, a BLT taco. Bacon. Taco. Genius. What do you get when you combine bacon, tacos, and food trucks? A little slice of heaven, that's what. Seriously, a bacon taco. Oh, and it's $2. In fact, all tacos are. Burritos are $7. And you can add bacon to anything for an additional $.50. Glorious. My tacos were in my hands within three minutes of ordering them. Yeah, I had more than one. The BLTaco (MUST EAT), the Green Monstah (cilantro, guacamole, pinto beans and jalapenos with your choice of meat - I went with chicken), and a slow-cooked pork with a delightfully sweet BBQ sauce. The BLTaco and the pork had some seriously fresh and yummy pico de gallo atop, along with tasty shredded cheese and some fancy lettuce. The Green Monstah was light, tasty and delicate. If I were to rank them, which I will, I would say 1) BLTaco (obvs), 2) Pork, 3) Green Monstah. Now, let's get one thing straight: Poco Loco isn't trying to be "authentic" or "legit" Mexican food. OOOOhhhhh! So Delicious ! I had heard so many good things about Poco Loco, I finally had a chance to try them at the Cinco de Mayo event. I got there around 3PM and the line was about 40 people deep !! Yes, it took about 30 minutes to get to the window, but it was worth it. I got two soft tacos, the PBJ and the Southwest. Both were delicious, filling and very well marinated. The meat tasted well tenderized, well cooked. All the ingredients from the lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, onions, etc...were fresh and well balanced. It was a steal for $2 each. They have a choice of crispy shell, burritos or Grande Tacos, which are a bit bulkier. They also have a Naked Burrito, which is all the fillings of a burrito, but in a bowl, a great choice for the Carb conscious crowd. Next time you see them around, stand in line and check them out...you will not regret it. They take cash or credit cards. read more

Wow, it sure took me long enough to check this place out! For my first run, I ordered three tacos: chicken, pork, and chorizo/potato. It was my mistake to forget to request salsa and guacamole, but even so, the tacos were tasty enough as they were.The chicken suffered most from a lack of condiment (not much flavor), but it was still pretty filling and well-cooked. The pork was very juicy, and pretty tasty on its own. And the chorizo/potato was the most flavorful, and quite good. All three cost $2 a piece (INCLUDING tax!). Throw in good, FAST service and good timing on my part (a huge line formed behind me), and I was a happy camper for my lunch break. I will most certainly be back for more, and soon! read more

I had to wait to write a review for this truck until I got to eat there when sober. I wouldn't want to let the way they're always sitting outside my favourite drinking establishments cloud my judgement. And they're still great! If you haven't eaten here yet, you owe yourself a potato and chorizo taco. (If you're really a sucker for the pork, you can add bacon to it, as a friend of mine always does. He swears it's transcendent.) Personally, I really dig the fresh guacamole and the tasty (also fresh!) salsas, and I like my tacos a little lighter. When we are out walking and these guys are out in front of the E&O, my generally well mannered dog freaks out and starts dragging me towards the truck - probably because he knows that I am a god damn slob and will get grande taco juice all over the sidewalk. The stars aligned that I was at the In-Downcity Cinco de Mayo Block Party with both Poco Loco and our effervescent CM, Hilary, for she introduced me to the wonderfulness that is the BLT and PBJ tacos. Seriously, there was a Cinco de Mayo party going on in my mouth. You already read about the BLT taco, so I won't elaborate other than to say, if you haven't tried it, do it. The PBJ -- which I originally thought was a peanut-butter-and-jelly taco -- is actually the much more culinary appropriate (pulled)pork, black bean and jalapeno concoction. It is topped off with cheese and sweet chili BBQ sauce. And wholly queso is it good! I immediately followed this feisty truck on both Facebook and Twitter -- I am not missing a roll of those wheels I tell you. And I am determined to hunt them down on a lunch break soon. Oh Poco Loco, how you hit the spot! The BL tacos are genius - AND perfectly priced at 2 bucks. I was lucky enough to hit up this magnifico mobile taco stand with the wonderful Hilary H earlier today-- and I must say, I'm super envious of PVD food trucks! Ok, so the BL taco- crumbled BACON, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, lettuce, and love. Just can't go wrong with the savory, smoky goodness of bacon- in ANY ol' dish. Poco Loco has a great thing goin here. And after reading the other reviews, I'm DYING to go back and get a burrito and a potato/chorizo taco! Stopped by recently due to all the hype. I found the text message system to be easy to use to find them, but my first try came up empty as they seemed to have left the locale slightly early. I was there for lunch, so I ordered a chicken burrito. While it was quite large and enjoyable, I did not find it to be the transcendent food experience that others have. To me it was just an ave or slightly above average burrito. If we lived in san fran, it would be getting 1-2 stars, but for providence, 3 stars seems fair. This was my goto far weeks and now I have fallen for a different Poco Loco original "The Southwest", a Chorizo and potato fill burrito with corn salsa and a chili sour cream sauce. I live on the West Side and often frequent the Poco Loco truck outside the E&O! For the most part the food is flavorful and enjoyable. I think the meat options are much better than getting a veggie burrito - so please, Poco Loco, add some vegetarian options besides just omitting the meat! What about some grilled vegetables, some tofu, etc? That would make such a difference. I will admit: I am a Boston transplant, and for anyone familiar with Anna's Taqueria.. well it's hard to beat. But I'm loving having Poco Loco in my neighborhood, and I will continue to frequent. I just hope to see some more veggie options beyond beans and rice! read more

The Chourico and garlic potato taco is delicious! The potatoes are soft and warm, mmmnnnnn! I tried the chicken taco with bacon (of course!) and it was good. This taco truck is work visiting! Rock solid taco truck. You can text the phone number any time to get their location. They usually are at Grant's block on Tuesdays in downcity PVD. I have only had their tacos so far but they are a bargain. The best by far is the marinated pork taco and for $2 it is quite large. I have to say, this is my new favorite food truck in Providence. For only $5 you can get a grande taco full of a meat, beans, cheese, romaine lettuce, and other veggies. The best part --- the flat bread! The bread is so good! It really sets this truck apart from all the other taco trucks in the area. The service is really friendly. As a forever Californian, I practically lived on tacos and In-N-Out for years and years. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found out there was a taco truck in PVD (yes yes yes!). However, I took one bite of Poco Loco and realized.... this is not Mexican food. Call it BBQ with a twist, Mexican fusion, or whatever, but this is definitely, most certainly not Mexican food. And, unfortunately, I could make tacos that taste better and are cheaper at my own home! For starters, the PBJ, their best seller, is basically a BBQ, pulled pork taco. While I don't mind it being an "alternative" type of taco, the flavors are just not there. The sauce itself is too sweet and that's really all that seasons the taco! The entire taco is overshadowed by that too sweet sauce. Next, their regular hard shell ground beef taco had the opposite problem: no flavor! No kick! This taco did admittedly taste better than the PBJ, but I could barely taste any of the Mexican seasonings that food buffs hold near and dear: cumin, chili powder, garlic, etc. Think of this taco as a cafeteria taco--just plain beef cooked without spices and stuck into a tortilla. All in all, I was so excited for this truck, but alas....A definite skip, in my book! read more

These things alone get me very excited, but also the tacos are very good. Maybe not the best I've ever had but certainly worth seeking out. I do wish they offered sides of some sort (tortilla chips, street corn, something like that) but, I get that food trucks are working with limited space. I went all out with the Mexican this past weekend (come on, it was Cinco de Mayo!) and Poco Loco was a delicious bright spot in the culinary line up. Stopped by during the In-Downcity Block Party event and went with not one but two tasty little tacos for a measly $4. I ordered both soft shell style and went with the BLT and PBJ (with no j because I can be a baby about jalapenos). BLT...seriously, what is not to like. Delightful crunch, well-balanced flavors, and OH THAT'S RIGHT, BACON. I think you know what I mean here. PBJ...the sauce on the pork had just the right amount of sweet to balance out the smoky, and I am a sucker for anything with black beans. Like I said, no J for me, so I suppose I just had a PB taco. Whatever, it was still delicious. Do yourself a favor and just find this truck. A well-rounded menu, quick service, and taco goodness. Since the reviews have covered all the basics already, let me just throw in some TIPS FOR VEGETARIANS: - The Green Monstah is great and all-vegetarian (guacamole, pinto beans, jalapenos, some other stuff). I like it with sour cream, because you can never have too much sour cream. My boyfriend likes to get it with the honey barbeque sauce. - It's not listed on the menu, but they have SOY chorizo! Which gives you the option of making a vegetarian Southwestern burrito or taco (my favorite) OR a vegetarian chorizodilla! - The black bean and corn quesadilla is also good, although I haven't ordered it in over a year since I discovered the other options outlined above. Everyone is telling you to get the BLT tacos simply because you need to get the BLT tacos... and at $2 each you can literally have allllllll the tacos!!! It was a sad day though when I found out the truck does not offer their Mushroom "Fun-Guy" tacos that are available at their Cranston location. What can I say? You get friendly staff, and cheap, consistently delicious food every time. The BBQ chicken quesadilla is awesome and it somehow ends up tasting just as good reheated the next day. My typical order is 2 or 3 soft shelled chicken tacos with just cheese, lettuce, BACON, and the sweet chili honey BBQ salsa. This is hardly street meat, people. I have to admit, I salivate for these tacos. Say what you may, but for quick (in forgiveness of their ever growing line) and late night tacos, this is the spot to be...wherever it may be. As a Wednesday night regular (they are outside E&O tap), I even jump off the plane from a vacation and I am thinking about these things. Personally, I order soft black bean tacos with the works...sometimes I throw their sweet honey barbecue sauce on it. One night I ate 5 of these goddamn tacos- I'm not kidding you. When I'm feeling in control of my life, my cap is 3. For $2 a pop, how can you help yourself? Ultimate sin and sex in your mouth are the PBJ tacos. They will go against every single voice in your head advising you to be a vegetarian (something I often struggle with.) You will think about them when you're at your boring desk job all day, you will wake up one morning and wish they were there for breakfast, you may even, hold them as close to your heart as your significant other. I tried it for the first time last year, for the Cinco de Maio block party in downtown providence, and i've had it a few times since! recently i had a grande taco, which comes on a flatbread, with grilled chicken and added avocado! it was Delicious! Yes indeed BACON IS AWESOME! I love, love, love their BLTacos! There is so much delicious crispy bacon in there and I can't get enough of the spicy sauce they put on it too. Just thinking about one makes me salivate. The husband and I pretty much make a weekly stop to the truck to get our beloved BLTacos, but we also love the PBJ and Southwest tacos. In fact there isn't anything we have tried that we didn't like. At $2 a taco it is very affordable so you can load up on some satisfying deliciousness! I've tried all the tacos they offer The southwest is my second choice very good and flavorful the chorizo just really stands out in this one and The Napalm has a really good kick so watch out if you're not much of a spicy food lover I haven't tried anything else yet.. its just so hard for me to get something other than the tacos.. but i can almost guarantee that everything else is just as amazing. Great addition to the growing food truck scene in Providence! I've been eyeing Poco Loco for some time and finally decided to test it out. I ordered the bbq chicken quesadilla, which came with chunky salsa and sour cream. I also got a side of guacamole (an additional 50 cents). I love that the quesadilla was made with monterey jack cheese- it complemented the tangy-ness of the sweet bbq sauce. Additionally, the quesadilla was cooked thoroughly so that the cheese wasn't overly melted. I wasn't crazy about the salsa, rather bland and quite forgettable. The guacamole was pretty good, definitely fresh. I struggled to finish the whole quesadilla- half would have been enough! Will I return? Probably. Several blocks from my office and inexpensive price tag make it a great lunch haunt. Looking forward to trying some of their spicy offerings! Hopefully I won't be disappointed! read more
