I was looking for an authentic Mexican place and I saw this on my maps area and I was like "let me give it a shot" I went and saw the outside of the restaurant and was very intrigued, after I went inside the place it was busy but very fast pace, anyways it was my turn to order and got a burrito and I ask for Carne Asada....the cashier look at me and said we don't have that at all... and I was very disappointed, but after he told me it will be ready in 2 mins I was like in shocked cause I was expecting that at all Overall I'll give this place a 6.8/10 it was okay but wish they had some carne asada and hopefully they add it to menu read more

Ok, so this place is legit! We just moved here from Texas and I was bummed about saying goodbye to all the good taco places. But Poco Loco is right by our new place, so I tried it out. SO GOOD. Exceeded my expectations. Very fresh. Don't tell Taco Palenque, but this Rhode Island taco shop is out doing a popular San Antonio taco place when it comes to tostadas! Their ground beef is excellent! I also got the burrito, which reminded me exactly of Austin's Freebirds. So - if you just moved here from Texas, get on over to Cranston for your Taco fix! Their sign says "Best Damn Taco Shop" for a reason. You won't find a better taco shop...and if you do, no you didn't. Hands down the best tasting tacos I have ever had. I moved away from RI many years ago and I keep coming back for the food. This place is a staple everytime we come back to town. The prices are great, the atmosphere is excellent,and the food matches. When I returned to Poco Loco--one of my favorite local places--for lunch today, little did I expect to try the day's special: Chinese Takeout Burrito! I'd never heard of it so when I asked about it I was informed it has spring rolls and Asian slaw. It is so delicious! Just one more reason to love this place. Not only is the service always polite, fast, and efficient, but they're doing interesting things with their menu. And as I cashed out, I couldn't resist grabbing a sea salt caramel brownie homemade by the owner's mother (I think I am remembering that correctly). There's not a lot of room for sit-down meals so takeout may be your best option, but either way your mouth and tummy will be very happy. The hubby and I were checking out at nearby V-Mart when we were wondering how long it would take to get to our usual taco/burrito shop when the gentleman in front of us heard us and had thought we were talking about Poco Loco. We had never been until today but decided to check it out since we like checking out new places when we can. As soon as we walked in and looked at the menu, I set my expectations on the low side especially when I saw that ground beef was among the meat options... I went with the ground beef burrito w/ pinto beans, while the husband went with the chorizo-potato burrito and an order of the pan sheet nachos to share. The place seemed pretty busy with people coming in and out for to-go orders or eating in so maybe I might have set my expectations too low... As soon as the food came in and took the first bite, I had set my expectations just right. The food was good and can tell the ingredients were fresh but...it lacked that pop of flavor that you find at a legit Mexican joint. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my meal but being a person of Latino descent and having authentic Mexican food almost all my life, I could tell this place caters to those that like a more subdued version of Mexican. If you're the kind of person that likes Mexican but without the heavy spices, this place is for you. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, I recommend going elsewhere. Man, how I wish I could rate them higher, because service is outstanding here. Stopped here to grab lunch to go on a Thursday, and after taking my order, the young man behind the counter said my four tacos would be ready in just two minutes. Just as he promised, it was - LITERALLY - in my hands in about that time, which is faster than a typical fast food joint. He was extremely polite to boot. Sadly, the food itself fell far short of the stellar service. I ate at a bayside park just outside Pawtuxet Village, and since there were no unoccupied benches in the shade, I just plopped down on the grass, under a tree, to eat my four tacos, which were individually wrapped in foil. While the veggies were fresh, the chicken in my tacos was perhaps the most bland chicken I have ever experienced ... so bland that I actually wondered if it was canned chicken. And I'm not one of those people who needs my food super-spicy, either. What's worse, as I ate the tacos, copious amounts of juice dribbled out of the foil, running down the inside of my forearm, which felt odd enough, but then my skin starting itching, so I had to use half of a bottled water to rinse my arm off. Of course, the juice made the soft tortillas mushy. Many people walk their dogs through that park, and I imagine some dogs will have a field day sniffing the spot where I ate, the grass sprinkled with diced tomatoes and a generous drizzling of chicken taco juices. The price for the four tacos, a soda and a bottled water, was around $12, which is not exorbitant, but no bargain either. This was the second time I got tacos to go from them, and it will probably be my last time. While my first trip was sometime last year, the only thing memorable from that time was the freshness and flavor of the tomatoes. I don't get all the five-stars reviews, especially when I see multiple reviews mentioning bland food. read more

This review is solely about the food, not the actual service. Ordered 3 pulled pork tacos and pulled pork nachos. The tacos were 97% lettuce and tomato. The small amount of pulled pork that was on it was cold. So cold, it did not even slightly melt the cheese. I thought it was strange that the foil the tacos were wrapped in was cold to the touch. The pulled pork on the nachos was just as cold. We attempted to eat these within 8 mins of pickup, so they should have at minimum been warm. Ended up throwing away and ordering from California Taco. We decided to add cilantro as well which was absolutely disgusting. Our cilantro as you can see in the picture below had EGGS GROWING on it!!! Never in my life have I seen cilantro with small eggs growing on it!!! Who knows if we ate the other portion prior to noticing this. I was instantly hooked! Their brick and mortar location is nestled in a quaint space with about 6 tables and a Pinball machine. My go-to every time are the PBJ & BLT soft tacos. The PBJ has jalapeños, black beans and pulled pork. I like to add the corn salsa to mine. And the BLT is the classic mouthwatering bacon, lettuce and tomato. We decided to try something new and got the Avocado Fritters. They were creamy with a lightly fried coating that "melted in your mouth". Brief Line Up Front: Fresh ingredients, nicely prepared meats, that are like a subdued version of Latino burritos, tacos, and chips. They do not use a heavy amount of cilantro, cumin, and other savory seasonings you see in traditional Mexican and Latino dishes. Great for people who can't handle super savory dishes. Wife and I stopped by here after talking with a guy in a check out lane at a grocery store nearby. Guy was really nice and told us of this local burrito joint. It is really popular, while we waited for our food for dine in on their six or so tables, about 20-22 people strolled in and out and did take out. Wife and I ordered roasted pork nachos, a potato/chorizo burrito, and a ground beef burrito. The nachos are huge, chips are fresh and it is topped with a ton of fresh vegetables and toppings. The roast pork was really well cooked, nice and soft, not over cooked. Typically with Latino roast pork you expect a heavy cumin and oregano taste, this was just a standard well cooked roast pork. The Chorizo/Potato burrito was a decent size, done mission style with rice, beans, and other fixings inside. I figured since it had Chorizo it would have a nice heavy spice, the potato dulled the hit and it was tasty but didn't have the traditional oomph I would expect with Chorizo dishes. This was intentionally done this way and tasted good. Wife enjoyed her ground beef burrito which was mission style as well. Beef was done in traditional American style seasoning. Wife and I were happily full. This was not the normal taco counter we were used to on the West Coast, but I cannot be mad at a place that does a good job making what they do. Got an assortment of soft tacos to go tonight. They were really good, with super fresh ingredients, generously sized, and well priced. . As mentioned by fellow Yelpers, the food is Americanized Mexican. What I found disappointing was that the soft taco shells are flour based, rather than corn. I love the usual 2 layer soft tacos. They add so much flavor and texture, and are healthier also. I wish they were an option. That said, the taco fillings here are top quality... wholesome and not greasy at all. Service is friendly. Poco Loco Tacos has become my new go-to lunch spot for tacos! The prices are very reasonable, which is rare these days, and the portions are generous. Yesterday I tried the roasted mushroom taco, soyrizo and potato taco, and seasoned beef taco. They were all very fresh, delicious, and filling. However, the mushroom taco was a bit bland...but nothing that hot sauce can't fix! Now, the way tacos are made vary from shop to shop in RI. Don't go to Poco Loco expecting an authentic Mexican meal. It's definitely Americanized but it's not necessarily a bad thing. They also pay attention to details when it comes to preparing take-out which I can totally appreciate. I can understand why some people say some ingredients aren't fresh. We got the avocado fritters, BBQ chicken quesadilla, and 2 tacos. The fritters were meh, just alright nothing special. Tacos were decent, I liked the pulled pork one. The BBQ chicken quesadilla was REALLY GOOD surprisingly. I would probably come back just for the quesadilla. The only thing that really bothered me was the salsa that came with the quesadilla on the side. It tasted like it was going bad.. like it was warm and a little sour.... gross. Very cool place. I'll let the food speak for it self. A BLT Taco, Caesar Tacos, of course gigantic burritos with also funky items I have yet to try. It's a hit or miss with wait time because people are making this a real gem. But the cool thing is you can of course call ahead. Inexpensive and the duality is worth it. Make it a stop if you're in the area! Extra tip, closed on Mondays, and they have a food truck Outdoor seating, limited but for the most part it does keep moving!
