After 10 years or so I finally revisited Poe's Tavern on a trip to Jacksonville. The food was still as good as I remember and I ordered a burger with Monterey Jack. Years ago when I came they ground their beef on site and i believe they still do. Sure tasted like it! Came with fries and they were ok. Just those shoestring fries and weren't bursting with flavor but still went down well with my burger. Mmm, good and huge burger! Service was very good too and Wesley took great care waiting on us. Our food came out fast and everything was made as we ordered it. You get a lot of food for your Buck here as well. The restaurant has been there at least 15 years. Came here off and on while visiting family over the years and the Edgar Allan Poe theme(in the name of course!) is epic and adds to the experience. I believe I even heard Poe audiobooks when visiting the restroom to freshen up. Love it! Restaurant is also pretty clean. It's just a tad bit dingy and there is a slight hint of lemony cleaner like from the bathroom perhaps but the tables were clean and nothing took away my appetite. Have been here multiple times and love their veggie burger option. Their fries are also really good shoestring fries. This time, I also got the peach lemonade, but I didn't taste much peach, but it was still really good. My friend got the rickshaw and said he would come back just for that drink. The only thing I didn't like, is that I asked for a side of honey mustard, which was too spicy for me so i didn't eat it, but, I was charged $1 extra for it. We came to meet friends for lunch on a Saturday, and amazingly found free parking in the adjacent lot. Not always easy in Atlantic Beach. At noon the restaurant wasn't crowded, but it did fill up by 1:00. The lunch menu is fairly limited, but the selections were excellent. I had the buffalo shrimp blue cheese salad - a generous portion of perfectly fried shrimp in a buffalo style coating on top of mixed greens with blue cheese dressing on the side. I cleaned my plate! Service was excellent and attentive. One of our party has food allergies and the server went out of her way to ensure the kitchen was notified for her special requests - which they accommodated without issue. We stayed to talk for over an hour, and were never pressured to move on and free up the table. A good experience all around. read more

Our family took us here for a late lunch and told us the burgers were the specialty, they did not disappoint! So many options with a variety of unique toppings that it was hard to choose. I went with a burger topped with a crabcake and it was delicious. They give you a large abundance of whatever side you choose (and they have really good ranch!). Plenty of beers on tap as well. I loved the theming of Poe's Tavern, they have Poe posters throughout the restaurant and the bathroom is covered in Poe literature and they have an ebook of Poe stories playing. read more

Burgers were good, nachos were delicious and smothered in chili. We left very full. The service was a little weird. Waited for a table "outside" until we realized we were being passed over by people sitting on the covered patio who checked in after us. So they seated us in the covered patio but no menus. Had to grab our own napkins and silverware when apps came. Server good but hosting a little off their game. Was freaked out by the man reading poetry track in the ladies room until I realized it was some strong Poe theming. read more

Stopped in for drinks before dinner and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and on his game! Enjoyed some old fashioned drinks which were delicious. Decided to order the cheese fries for an appetizer and wow! The portion size was great and they were yum! My only complaint here was that the party on the patio was very loud and certain other guests too. Maybe the voices were amplified but it was a tad annoying. Not the restaurant's fault! We enjoy the atmosphere. I had the Annabel Lee, me son had the Hop Frog and my daughter had one of my favorites, the Sleeper. I also enjoyed a spicy margarita and a peach lemonade with club soda instead of sprite because I don't like my drink too sweet. I went to the Hostess stand and told her we had a party of four. She said it would be at least thirty minutes. I told her, "okay". They texted me about two minutes later and they had a high top open up, so we took it. Our Waitress was VERY BUSY. She took good care of us as best as she could. My potato salad, & Buffalo shrimp salad was very good. The sweet tea was not sweet, but it was doable. I have the Waitress a 25% tip, because she really was working very hard. We chose Poe's for a special reason--my father shares a birthday with Edgar Allan Poe, and it was his birthday weekend. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We sat at the bar and were let down by both the service and the food. The bartender serving us seemed visibly unhappy with her job, which negatively impacted the service. However, her teammate, Chris, stood out by picking up the slack and ensuring things ran more smoothly--he's the only reason I gave more than one star. Great food, great service, a great time! We went to dinner later in the evening on a Sunday around 8:30pm and out waitress Grace was exceptional! We felt bad about it being late in the day but she was so kind and got us our food and drinks very timely. Salad and chicken sandwich were extremely good. It had been several years since my last visit here. I was happy to discover that their burgers were just as delicious and huge as I'd remembered. The "Pit and The Pendulum" was 1/2 pound of juicy ground beef covered with applewood bacon and cheddar cheese on a brioche bun. It was amazing! "Edgar's Nachos" with red and white corn tortilla chips, and topped with Edgar's Drunken Chili, Monterey Jack, Pico de Gallo Guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños, and scallions were delicious - but could have used a little more of the toppings. Service was provided by an amiable and energetic young man including being prompt and friendly. Use their restroom and you're treated to an oration of one of Edgar Allen Poe's works of literature (won't get that at McDonald's :)). Give this place a try! read more

This is not so much a review of Poe's Tavern but moreso a discussion about a family that is so loving that they would order Poe's while the person who loves it the most just came out of abdominal surgery and isn't able to partake. Oh Poe's how I love thee. I long for the juicy delicacy that is the Tell Tale Heart. Your perfectly medium beef burger topped wonderfully with a runny egg. A side of tasty fries and washed down with a spicy margarita. Now thats good eating. Oh how glorious it could have been however all was for naught. While I suffered with ice chips my brood feasted on a cornucopia of the most delicious foods. I weep for what I missed yet I know someday soon I shall once again return to the restaurant with my appetite and wallet in tow. read more
