My gf took me to Gemma for Valentine's Day and it was sooo nice. The decor was beautiful and the service amazing. We really couldn't decide what we wanted to so we shared a dish and ordered enough drinks to make up for the other dish (lol). I would definitely like to go back and try a few of the dishes we didn't try.

Gemma is one of the most beautiful restaurants in San Marco, their vibe is unmatched. From their high ceilings to beautiful bar it is the perfect place for a girls night or dinner date. I came here with my book club and was able to make a reservation for 8 people easily. Service was attentive and able to split checks with no issue. The oysters were delicious, truffle fries were the perfect shareable appetizer, and steak tartare is great as well. It's a bummer their happy hour is only for the rooftop or bar and not the downstairs seating area, I'll have to make sure to take advantage of it next time.

If you're in San Marco and in the mood for oysters and a good vibe, Gemma Oyster Bar is an easy yes. This is one of those spots I keep coming back to when I want something fresh and a little elevated without anything feeling too formal or over the top. The oysters are always super fresh with a great selection, and it's the perfect place to grab a seat at the bar, order a dozen, and settle in with a glass of wine or a cocktail. Everything we've tried has been light, flavorful, and exactly what you want when you're craving seafood. Also, don't skip dessert. Seriously, you can't go wrong. And if you like espresso martinis, they make a really good one. The staff is super fun and friendly, and the whole place has that lively, neighborhood energy that makes you want to stay awhile. Great for date night, meeting friends, or one of those "let's just go somewhere good" nights in San Marco.

We visited for brunch and requested rooftop seating, and the ambiance up there was fantastic. It was our first time, and it definitely didn't disappoint. The space is large and inviting, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. Looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu.

We enjoyed a Sunday Brunch at Gemma Fish and Oyster which was wonderful! The staff here were super friendly and attentive to our family's needs. The ambiance is modern, clean and inviting. We choose to sit in the rooftop area which was nice and refreshing. We truly enjoyed everything that we ordered from the fish tacos, breakfast, beignets and seafood crepe. Everything was top notch for us. We will definitely be back in the near future!

This restaurant is an amazing addition to the San Marco area of Jacksonville. I'd describe it as mid-upscale, with a welcoming, elevated ambiance and a covered rooftop, which is a huge plus. I've been three times now, twice for cocktails and appetizers and once for dinner. Each visit has been consistently impressive. I would say it's a great spot for groups, date night, or catching up with a close friend. Another standout perk is the complimentary valet, which I don't think is common in San Marco, though self-parking is also available nearby. The staff are very welcoming, efficient, and accommodating. The food has been excellent across the board. From the Bibb & avocado salad, spicy mussels, Caribbean jerk chicken skewers, crab & artichoke dip, to the truffle fries, you can't go wrong. They also offer a full bar with specialty cocktails, perfect for spicing things up a notch. For dinner, I was not disappointed. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and my friend couldn't stop raving about her fried redfish and the sauce it was served with. Overall, this place has all the makings of a San Marco staple, and I can't wait to come back again when I'm in town.

The ribeye special was absolutely amazing! It melted in your mouth. I'm not sure if this is on the regular menu as it was listed as a special by the server but if you can try it, I highly recommend. Got the Bao and Caribbean jerk chicken skewers as appetizers and they were phenomenal. All in all food is 10/10. Closed out the night with a perfect espresso martini and that was, superb.

This place is really nice. Parking is atrocious but if you are patient enough, a place will open up. Definitely a place to set up reservations. When we left there were quite few people waiting in line. No drinks but Gemmas has a full bar with all types of drinks to partake. Started off with crabcakes with remolade sauce. Very good. You get 2 cakes I got the catch of the day which was mahi mahi. Fish so good they named it twice Anna got the potroast which was very tender. She let me try some. Gemma is a great place with good food and service. A destination style restaurant. Be back. Especially for roof top dining.

Great bar experience! The ambience was perfect--nice, relaxing, and a great vibe overall. The drinks were really good, and the bartenders were friendly and welcoming. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

Love this place!!! Came here with my girlfriends for brunch and it was perfect!!!! Our server was amazing. He knew we came to chat and have drinks first before ordering lunch so he didn't badger us to order. The decor is absolutely gorgeous. From the front door to the oyster bar to the upstairs, eye candy everywhere! The food was amazing as well. The jerk chicken skewers were one of the juiciest chicken I've ever eaten. The hummus was beautiful but not very flavorful. The short rib hash and shrimp and grits were also good, but the seafood crepe wasn't very good... it had a grey sauce on it that was off putting at first sight. Just didn't taste very good.

Oh my goodness! Dear Gussy. Slam dunk. I had two different margaritas, a tuna poke bowl, fried cod fish bites. So fresh and delicious! This place is wonderful. If you have not been, I challenge you to come by here and check them out. The food, the atmosphere, the drinks, the employees make it special for you. Come on out & try them. Pros:all is great. Valet service. It is in San Marco. Cons: none

Picture it, date night October 10th. It was a rainy and I thought for sure that would put a damper on the evening, but the sun found its way out. We were celebrating life and all is has to offer us and the staff greeted us both with a glass of champagne. The bubbly made me want to throw caution to the wind and order everything...all the drinks, seafood and a juicy steak. Thank goodness my wife was able to remind me to pace myself -- it's not like we don't live within a 10 minute drive. We decided we would eat seafood apps -- spicy mussels, shrimp cocktail, Cajun roasted oysters, crab dip and my wife's favorite beet salad. I was in heaven eating the mussels basted in a spicy sauce, the shrimp were COLOSSAL and while the crab dip wasn't lump it was just as yummy. We paired each app with drinks. I can't remember my first drink, but when I tasted E's drink I knew I needed more, so I said, "I need a please, please, please and thank you." We went from driving by this literal gem for years and never stopping, to enjoying apps and drinks here twice in a week. Next time we go we'll make it a rooftop brunch experience with friends.

I definitely recommend coming here for happy hour. Their drinks are AMAZING and during happy hour, the price is so good. I'm glad they had good drink options on the happy hour menu because that's ultimately what drove my friend and I to come here in the first place. The oysters were good, though on the small side. The truffle fries were crispy. And the salad was delicious!

Why spend a lot of money eating at an establishment that doesn't enhance the experience? The food also was flavorful and the passion fruit margaritas was superb. I love margaritas but hate it when it's made with a pre-made mix. (It should be a crime.) Barteco uses high quality tequila and freshly squeezed juice that way a margarita should be made. For the food, I got 3 tacos (ahi-tuna, prime beef, sesame ribeye), my wife got the ahi-tuna rice entree, and for our two daughters they shared the quesadillas from the kids menu. Our favorite was definitely the ahi-tuna. One warning is that the portions are quite small, but they do tell you on the menu! However, the prices are reasonable for such quality and tasty food! The kids entree was also sub $10 which is rare to find AND it actually was a decent sized portion and had left overs. On top of that the hostess and server were friendly and knowledgeable. We're already planning on coming back already with some friends. The margarita in the carafe is calling us. What else can you ask for?

You can tell they put a lot of effort into the quality of the ingredients. My favorite item was easily the pork belly taco. It was packed with flavor and was the standout of the entire meal. I also had the chicken verde taco, carne asada taco, and pork tamale. The pork tamale was excellent--tender, flavorful, and comforting. The chicken verde and carne asada tacos were good, but neither was particularly memorable compared to the pork belly. The cucumber salad was probably my biggest disappointment. It looked fresh, but it had little to no seasoning and lacked flavor. Service was okay. It took quite a while to get my second Diet Coke, which was a little frustrating. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would come back, but when I think of Mexican food, this isn't really what comes to mind. The food felt more Americanized and inspired by Mexican flavors rather than authentic Mexican cuisine. That's not necessarily a bad thing--it just wasn't what I was expecting. If you're looking for fresh ingredients, great vibes, and creative tacos, bartaco is worth a visit. If you're looking for a more traditional Mexican experience, this probably isn't the place I'd recommend.

Our waiter, Evan, was very proactive & offered suggestions with menu items. We started with some cocktails, the gentlemen with the cider beer & an old fashioned. Calamari was prepared well and not too chewy. We shockingly each chose a salad: the bistro steak, the chop chop Asian, the goat cheese, and the salmon. Each one was incredible. Mine was the chop chop and I absolutely loved it! It was HUGE and you can bet I ate every single bite. Loved it!' We finished with the brownie topped with ice cream for the birthday girl, it was extremely tasty! Thanks again to Evan for making our night! He was a fantastic waiter!
