I've been to Point S twice over a period of two years. First time, I had a hole in a new tire plugged. I remember driving away and feeling so satisfied with their work. Today, the second time, they replaced a hose that's in the wiper fluid container. They checked my oil , the tires (and filled them to proper air pressure. They checked the anti-freeze and recommended I purchase "Asian purple" which sounds like a drug. They didn't have it in stock. ALL OF THIS was NO CHARGE. These guys know their stuff! read more

They they portray themselves as mechanics and misdiagnosed my car as a valve cover gasket leak when it was simply a timing belt that was stripped that ultimately locked up my pistons and now I have to get a new engine . Also the tire alignment that they gave me was half-assed . I would not recommend these people for anything other than just purchasing tires . read more

I had a flat tire where the tire was rendered unrepairable 8 miles south of Taos. Tony did my roadside assistance and recommended Point S. Unfortunately, this was on a Friday evening and no one selling tires was open anywhere around Taos over the weekend so I arrived at Point S just after opening time Monday morning. Obviously they are popular with the locals because there was already a line of people checking in. The young lady at the register couldn't have been nicer. Unfortunately, they did not have the exact same brand of tire so I opted to go with a lesser expensive tire because there were a number of folks ahead of me it took a while to get the work done however, I felt like that the guys in the shop were really working hard to get the cars in and out as quickly as possiblealso felt like the pricing was fair. They were completely swamped, but James and the team somehow fit me in and had me safely back on the road before 3 o'clock. The work was excellent, the price was fair, and the customer service stood out, when I had questions (as a woman, I've sometimes been brushed off at other shops), they treated me with respect and answered everything clearly. We had to get an alternator put in on our pathfinder while on a family road trip in June. I didn't love that it cost 1200 but they understandably had to take a lot apart on this vehicle to get to it. The one star review is because after getting home there was a clunking coming from the front right. After getting it in to my local mechanic he fount that they improperly torqued many of the suspension parts and two of the bolts were missing. We were fortunate to make it home without an accident as we were towing a camper and this could have been catastrophic. Highly upset that they endangered my family with this carelessness. read more

Today, I had several errands & one was stopping to schedule my car for an appointment at a local garage. Potholes are brutal in Taos & I had a slight rattle that started a couple of days ago. I popped into Point S and they took my car straight into the garage for a look. They were fast, friendly....& free. They said that the everything looked good, gave a thorough rundown on my car and sent me on my way. They explained that the inspection was a service they offered and since there was nothing to fix, there was no charge. If you are in Taos and in need of an honest mechanic, head to Point S. Aug 2020 new tires put on at point S mileage was 109395. March 2021 alignment done 111120 mileage. Bald tires at 119000 sept 30. Manager had the nerve to say the camber was adjusted by adjusting the toe (!) (no camber kit was installed) and since tires "weren't bought there and weren't rotated" they weren't responsible. He literally wanted me to believe the tires were at fault after 10k. Bridgestone Duelers rated at 80k. In mechanics book it clearly states "To answer your question, adjusting toe does NOT change the camber. Changing the camber DOES change toe." So manager Ken Totman either lied to my face or doesn't know beans. Either way it's not good and all he could offer is for me to pay for a new alignment in NOVEMBER! BTW point S didn't rotate tires when alignment done but blamed me for not doing so after 5k. read more

They got me right in and found the silly culprit immediately and didn't charge me anything, and were super friendly. This is not the first time they've helped me either. They were slow today due to the weather, but they can get really busy so try to plan ahead and schedule appointment in advance when possible. read more

I have tried to support this local business over the years, but the incompetence of the people in the shop, as well as the management, including the Owner, is consistently horrible. Twice they have lost the center wheel cap- the first time they begrudgingly replaced it, but this last time they took no responsibility for it. I highly do not recommend anyone take their business to this shop. Also, the owner is arrogant and rude and does not accept responsibility at all. read more

Jared is the best ! We were traveling through and broke down. Everything is closed on a Saturday, but Jared happened to be in his shop doing some personal work and was nice enough to help us out ! The alternator needed to be replaced and he did it in 5 minutes! We offered him 200$ and he refused to take it saying that was way too much and 50$ was enough. Once again the great folks at Point S deliver when I am in a pinch. My 2004 Jeep Wrangler went from everything is okay to indications of dire peril. A brief inspection identified the basic problem and as they delved into he solution they also discovered a rare condition but were able to make repairs in a relatively short time. (ALL RUMORS ABOUT POINT S IS TRUE) If you've heard bad things about this place it's true.. I've always supported local businesses, especially Point S. My family and I have taken our vehicles here for years, maintenance was OK ( mechanics are learning as they go/ no experience) and I was never treated badly when being assisted by an employee...Other times when dealing with the owner (Dave or David) it's been the total opposite. The owner is rude, disrespectful, and is not very good at assisting customers (female customers at that) with problems over the phone/ in person. Today I had taken my car to be serviced and less than 25 minutes after I had left the shop I noticed an item was taken from my vehicle without my consent or knowledge. Regardless of what the item was, when calling Point S in regards about what had happened I was immediately told by the owner to "fuck off, I'm not dealing with this today, my guys are good" then hung up on me.. I'm not looking to get my items back simply because of dealing with the rude bald owner & idiots at the shop. I have alerted the local authorities about the incident And such actions have been taken.. (larceny is still larceny regardless of what the item is) Be careful when dealing with Point S, you think you have nothing to worry about when dealing with a car service you've been to hundreds of times.. theyll just tell you to fuck off when a real problem happens. read more

I have gotten tires here several times, and so far so good, they usually get the job done pretty quick. But my suggestion to the owner would be, take the television away from the employees. You get the impression you are interrupting their television program when you walk up to the counter, and that's not the atmosphere you want to create. read more

I had new tires installed this morning at a different shop in Taos. I had been driving for 8 months with only 4 studs in the right rear wheel. During the installation of the new tires another stud broke leaving only 3 holding the wheel on. For whatever reason the tire shop doesn't do stud replacement leaning me to search another option. I went to Point S. I was quoted $119.00 to replace 3 studs and 3 lug nuts. $30 in parts and $77 labor. The reason for the high labor cost was that the mechanic had to drill out the old studs. That is a crock! After leaving Point S i went next door to auto zone and bought 5 studs and 4 lug nuts for $20. Removed the wheel and the brake drum, hammered out the 4 broken studs after another broke on me during removal. The whole process took 15 minutes!!! And no drilling!! WTF??? read more

I had two flat tires that "fix a flat" got me down the mountain to Point S. The folks there worked double hard to get my tires off the car because I didn't have the proper lug nut tool, for my custom rims. They were able to get the tires off, repaired and back on without damage to the nuts or rims! I couldn't be more pleased with their service and attitude! read more

I really wanted to like these guys. Some of the staff at the front desk are actually genuinely nice. However, no amount of friendliness is going to make up for atrocious mechanical job they did. I came in for a simple tire balancing thinking it was the cause of my steering rattling at highway speeds. Their mechanic (Russel) told me the whole front end needed to be fixed. I'll spare you the gory details of every part they talked me into replacing. The total came out to about $1,500. Long story short, when I swapped my summer tires for winter ones I noticed the rear wheel seal they replaced was starting to leak again. When I came in and talked to Russel, he admitted he didn't use the proper seal mounting tools to put it in. His excuse was that he works on hundreds of cars and refuses to have proper tools for every one of them. It gets worse. When I mentioned that the brakes were ruined because the seal was leaking, he shrugged that off by saying they don't have time to replace them and they're not that bad anyway, just need to be cleaned off. Brilliant! Clean off 80/90 rear differential grease off the break shoes? If any mechanic tells you that it can be done to save your breaks, run in the opposite direction as fast as you can. When I asked him if he is just going to pop a new seal without the proper tool again, he got irritated and rattled off every excuse in the book why it's ok for him to use a hammer and a screwdriver to bash the new seal with. In addition to that they refused to warranty the job should it leak again. Nice! At that point I knew it was a lost cause. To top all of that off, after the alignment he performed, my brand new tires started to wear unevenly on the inside. Again, he refused to help and get to the bottom of the problem. As usual he had a pile of excuses instead. Unfortunately Russel's excuses won't fix my $800 set of tires his alignment started to ruin. Bottom line, Russel was quick to sell me on every service they could possibly think of, but when it came time to stand behind his sloppy work, he cowardly refused to even look in my direction. In conclusion, Tire Factory doesn't seem to know much about tires or mechanical work. Neither do they stand behind their warranty. Their warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on. If you want this excuse for a mechanic working on your car with a hammer and a screwdriver instead of proper tools, Tire Factory is your place. If you want things done right, avoid this place like the plague! read more

I bought my last set of tires from a big corporate tire store, but from now on Taos Tire Factory will be my "tire guy." Several weeks ago I hit a huge bump and knocked out my alignment. I thought I just damaged a tire, or knocked a wheel weight off, but when I took it in for my scheduled balance and rotation, I found out otherwise. The big tire store discovered the abnormal tire wear indicating bad alignment, but they wouldn't even touch it because all they do is mount, balance and rotate tires. So I decided to find a more full service shop. After doing a little online research, I decided on Taos Tire Factory. I like the fact that it's an independently owned franchise and not just another location of a big corporate chain. I went in early on a Tuesday morning and before I knew it, I had an alignment and two new tires for a great price. They also balanced my other two tires and rotated them for free. I am due for a coolant flush and oil change soon, and I will definitely try Taos Tire Factory. read more

Excellent troubleshooting skills and service!!!! We had traveled from Texas to escape the heat and enjoy the mountains only to find our Subaru Outback on the fritz! Check engine light and brake light and shuddering - everywhere we called said they were too busy to see us and yet we knew we couldn't drive back with the car in that state! James said to come by for a diagnosis and Trinidad noticed the loose bolt, missing bolt and valve covers leaking oil into the spark plugs! Apparently they're unable to give a quote on struts without inspecting the vehicle. Employee acted like he'd look at it and be right back. 20 minutes later they've got my truck parked in a line to be looked at. I explained I thought they were pulling it right in to check it out and I didn't have time to wait. He said it was being looked at. Yet it was parked behind the garage with no mechanic within 30ft of it. I asked why he wouldn't just give me a quote on struts. He said he was. He raised his voice and shouted at me all while the owner watches him. The owner never intervened. I would like the owner to explain why his employees can't look up on the computer how much they charge for struts without wasting someone's day and an argument. They were friendlier years ago when they went by a different name. Maybe they're all on coke. No idea why a customer service employee would fly off the handle so easily. read more

I just recently purchased a vehicle a few weeks ago and suddenly my AC stopped working. I brought it to Point S to see if I could get the ac recharged, but I was told that I would have to replace the ac clutch. I didnt believe them being that the previous owners had kept the car it great condition with all the records of maintenance, so I decided to get a second opinion. I went to Metric Motors to get a diagnosis, they told me my ac clutch was perfectly fine... I only needed a refill and one valve that had a very small leak replaced. I don't know if I was lied to because of my race, gender, or age but I was quoted by Point S a total of $885 or so to fix the issue with my ac that was nonexistent. The actual cost of recharging my ac was only $150 at metric motors. I'm disgusted with how Point S decided to conduct their business, I will never go there again and would advise others to be wary of their "service". read more

I shredded a tire on an exacto blade, and they replaced it under warranty no questions asked. I'm still wondering how an exacto blade ended up on a dirt road 10 miles from the middle of nowhere. Have a sad story on this one. Flat tire on Saturday afternoon, about 2pm. Kudos to Point S for staying open til 3, when no other shops in town can bother to open on Saturdays. However, the crew was unwilling to help us and stay late on Saturday as we arrived at 3:03. For a little context we did call ahead at 2:00 and confirmed that Point S had the new Goodyear tire we needed in stock (the last one, actually). We told them we were working to change our tire outside of town. And we called back en route at 20til, saying we'd be there about 3. Anyway despite being ready to spend a bit over $200 for the new tire the crew just wasn't willing to stick around and sell it to us. Upon arrival, we actually saw staff nearly scrambling to their cars in order to avoid us! When yelled to, the only response was "everybody is gone." Pretty disappointing. While this may sound like spilled milk, I hope the owner sees this post and has a talk with the manager on staff. If it was my business I'd want to know. read more

They changed their name so it was a little hard to find at first. I was visiting from out of state and as soon as I got into town I got a flat tire. By word of mouth at the Earthship Academy, I heard this was the best place to go. I was expecting to pay a lot for this, but it came out to be extremely affordable, much to my relief!! Andy was super awesome in assisting me from the beginning to end and helped me figure out a couple things about my car afterwards! My family and I were in Taos Ski Valley on vacation. A warning light popped up on the dash as we were driving from the Bavarian restaurant to the house we were renting. It was a tire pressure warning. Sure enough the passenger rear tire was almost completely flat the next morning. Fortunately I had a Schumacher jump starter in the minivan and it also has an air compressor. (I highly recommend that as well). So I was able to fill the tire with air. I found Taos Tire Factory on Yelp and, based on the reviews, gave them a call. They said they could patch it if it could be patched. So we drove in to town. Before I could get out of my car a woman walked out of the store and said "low rear passenger tire?" Apparently the man I spoke to on the phone earlier had told her to expect me.. She took a look at it and said they had a bay available. Within 20 minutes the technician removed a sharp rock, patched the tire and had it back on the van. For only $20!!! We thought we may be staring at a lost day of fun but Taos Tire Factory had us on the road in no time. I couldn't be happier with the service we received. read more

Made me drive the car across town 3 times. Then after the 3rd time they tell me the actual problem ( could've solved it when they put on my snowtires) so I setup the appointment and after 2 and a half weeks of planning ( I even called ahead to make sure) then they tell me the part isnt gonna be in until noon that day. So instead of only taking a few hours after weeks of planning, I gotta be late to work and literally spend my whole freaking day waiting. Absolutely ridiculous! Oh! And on top of that I had the part in my car purchased from the same AutoZone 10 yards away that they are buying it from but they can't "warranty" it unless they buy it. So ridiculous. Very unprofessional. Completely wasted a great deal of my time. They gotta get their act together! Wtf! And on top of that! They are completely dismissal of me and my situation! Straight up acted like "whatever man". Worst customer service, worst organization. Guess they work better without notice or planning. Completely disrespectful workforce!! We will see how the results of their work is. Will never be back and highly recommend NOONE EVER COMES HERE! O yeah, and the guy offered to drive me to work. An hour and a half away cuz he realized he messed up. But then I'd be stranded out there without my car and have to have it by 7 am the next day and they don't open til 8 am. I awoke on Sunday to a flat on my truck, right there in my driveway. After trying to fix it myself I realized one of the lug nuts was stuck. I called my car insurance only to be informed that the only option was to tow it to a shop. As such, I had to put the work order on hold until shops opened on Monday. I called Taos Tire Factory first thing in the morning. Even though they had a full schedule, the man I spoke to told me he'd check it out himself. I had it towed in then ran to am appointment. When I arrived at the shop afterward they'd not only had my tire off and the spare on but it was no charge. To boot, they had a matching used tire for only $20! I had to wait about an hour for them to put the used tire on (they needed my permission to do so) but the whole thing cost me less than $30! The staff was friendly too. Very cool. read more
