I am very unsatisfied with metric motors. I took my truck to them and received my vehicle running worse than when I first delivered it to them. They were very slow and didn't focus on my vehicle even tho I had appointment, putting oil changes in between my services. They didn't call me with updates I had to go in person to see what was happening. Juan the owner hasn't contacted me with a solution to fix my truck in which I was charged almost 700.00 dollars for very little work. As a plumber If I cause any issues I have to make a insurance claim but metric motors is not making any attempts to fix the extra issues that happened in their work space. I wouldn't use this business beware that your vehicle can get in but won't be working the same ever again.. they Want 12,000 dollars for a new engine replacement after they sabitoshed my truck. read more

We were in town on vacation and they got us in quickly to check our squeaky brakes. Turned out to be hot dusty brake pads from coming down the mountain. Brakes were only a couple years old and no need to replace them. We were relieved to find out there was no safety issue. Very nice people, they do stay busy and are typically a few days out. I have two vehicles I take to them. They schedule their service so you don't have a lot of wasted time. I have done every from brakes and struts and service on my Porsche but also a front end rebuild on my truck. All work was done right the first time. The good: Tim is a nice guy. The shop seems fairly well organized. The bad: Was told that the diagnostic fee would be applied to work that needed to be done. In the end, we were charged $237 without any work being done to our car. They simply told us we don't need brakes and they weren't sure what's wrong with the emissions system. They told us we could replace a part and it might fix the issue. I was prepared to schedule the work and asked how the diagnostic fee would be applied... since they needed to order the part.... But apparently it's only applied if they are able to do the work right when they are doing the diagnostic test. Really poor experience. Lacks integrity. read more

My partner and I have been coming to Taos since 1982. Metric Motors has been an iconic repair location for all sorts of vehicles since then. We were always in rental cars so no need to go to MM. However, since last year we are driving our own 2016 Subaru Forester. We were in Taos from 7/23 until 8/21/17. This year we did the same thing. However, an oil change and tire rotation was needed on the trip so I called MM. I spoke with JOE the owner on the phone and he set me up. I arrived on time and spoke with DAWN. She is a wonderfully aware and savvy person who really knows her job, and got me in and out in not quite 90". I wanted tires rotated but Dawn said Joey my tech said they didn't need it as they were new Coopers with only 6k on them and were wearing well. (They also did a huge safety check and I found that my brakes had hardly worn in 39k miles! ) I found MM to be honest and forthright. The crew there is amazing. While I love living in Northern New Mexico, towing one's car 70+ miles to the nearest VW repair shop is not one of my favorite things... Especially when I didn't know anything about this place! What I was hoping was going to be an inexpensive, easy fix, came back a 12 hour, $1200 (before tax!) job. I work for a non-profit and am a full time student - money isn't really something I would consider a part of my life! However, I need my car so I did some homework, talked to my old VW mechanic and found that I was getting good information and a reasonable quote for the job. Well, color me thrilled when I get a call from the awesome guys at Metric Motors telling me that they did some research and figured out a way to do the job, fix the oil leak, and save me around $550 in labor. Uh huh. I said IN LABOR. These guys knew I was willing to credit card it up and pay what I needed to to get my car fixed. They could have easily kept their mouths shut, and would have made a pretty penny off of me - but they didn't. They showed honesty and excellent work ethic. I definitely consider them "the guys that work on my car" now! My faith in humanity is restored... Well, maybe just my faith in really being able to find an honest mechanic... read more

My car broke down while I was on vacation. The tow truck guy recommended this shop. I'm not sure what to say about this honestly. I got one estimate, then asked to get a print out of the report they ran to see what codes the car was giving off. That's the point at which everything got screwy. They said they didn't have the ability to print out that report, which in my opinion is horseshit, because everywhere else I've ever been does. They said they could manually add the codes to my receipt. Then all the sudden my $800 estimate turns into "well another part could have been damaged also...we'll have to see. Then that 2nd part is of course damaged and takes my repairs up to $2,000 and then another code is going off (allegedly) and if those need to be repaired $3,500. I think they knew that I was stuck in town, needing to get home for work, and they felt they had me at their mercy. I would have to pay whatever they said. Well I told them to stop working on it immediately and towed my car off. I didn't find these guys to be very trustworthy. read more

Infuriating. I was recommended this place by an old boss, saying he has a good friend that works here and that they're trustworthy. Needed tires changed out and a little maintenance - they break my bolt key and then tell me it's not their fault and want to charge me for it. I fight them on it, say that's outrageous - you break it, you buy it. They thought they were doing ME a favor by not charging labor. Are you kidding me? Labor because YOU broke something? I don't think so. So I argue more - well the lady that I was dealing with decides to turn the tables and starts taking my invoice saying she'll add labor in. EXCUSE ME? Don't you ever treat a customer like that. And to think they pride themselves on their customer service. Don't let the thank you notes on the wall fool you. read more

Avoid this place if you can. The dogs are nice, the men behind the counter and specifically the owner are NOT. What should have been a few days at most ended up being more than a week. The owner basically told me to shut up so he could talk; This was as I was explaining that the $1,600 clutch they put in my car was already failing after a few weeks! I spent thousands on hotels, meals and two weeks of rental car fees as well as had to drive home out of state and all the way back down to get my car once they did eventually "fix" it. They took a week to put in the wrong clutch and it's already going...This would have been a one day job and I would have the right parts for the same price at my shop back home. Shockingly rude, I recommend they look the definition of "service" up in the dictionary, as Metric Motors does not understand what this term means. The women working there seem pleasant enough however neither the guy who handled my order or the owner were willing to listen to myself or my mechanic at any time. read more

I really like Metric Motors. On my drive out here from California, a tire pressure monitor light went on in the dash of my Honda Civic. When I got to town, I had to quarantine for 2 weeks because of Covid, but Tim from Metric told me on the phone to bring it in when I could and directed to keep an eye on tire pressure. Very reassuring. It turned out to be a quick replacement of an affordable part and I was very pleased. When an early snow and freeze hit, they checked all fluids (including anti-freeze) and ran some basic checks to give me an idea of what parts throughout the engine and structure of the car were nearing looking worn, with a fully detailed print-out. Tim also recommended dedicated all season tires and a reputable place to get them. In less than two weeks, I'm all set! Very happy with Metric and glad to have a place to take my Honda! Professional, reasonable prices, a ride home if desired and very manageable time. Definitely recommend to a foreign car owner!! read more

Not a place to have any kind of work done. Took my Expedition in to have a 7 pin and trailer break installed, after twice the quoted price and time to complete the job. I picked up my vehicle and went to Albuquerque to get the travel trailer my wife and I had just purchased, that night I noticed my passinger head light was out. Bought a new filament, didn't fix problem, got back to Taos, took it back to metric motors told them the issue, they said they would look at it. They said nothing was wrong then tried to charge me $125.00 for looking at it. I had no clue but head light still wasn't working, took it to a dealership, 30 minutes later I was told someone had removed the fuse for light. Someone at metric motors had removed the fuse for my headlight, I'm thinking to get more business, the $125.00 I refused to pay. read more

I've took my vehicle in several times and always had a good experience. Until recently. I took my vehicle for some work and when I received it. I ran it to the car wash and noticed 5 deep stretches In the door. The truck it's self has new paint and when it was taken In, it was a little dirty but no scratches. When confronted, which was 15 minutes later. I was told that because I took it off property it could've been me, but I haven't even been gone longer than 15 minutes. The service representative showed me pictures of the truck he took before, but you can clearly see there's no stretches and he said, they were probably there before, but because it's dirty we couldn't see them. Needless to say I think I'll be finding a new mechanic. The employee or employees that did the scratches should've had integrity and advise a supervisor of the stretches. I'll be sure to inspect the vehicle next time I take it to a mechanic. read more

These folks work on my Mercedes and VW. They are very busy and run a shop that works on several types of euro cars. I've found them to be reasonable and honest. The lady at the counter is friendly and helpful. Other than going to Santa Fe, it's the only place I would take my cars in this area. They are not cheap. I hope if your driving a European made car, you've resigned yourself to the fact they need much more maintenance than other cars. Thus, prices for repairs at this shop can be hefty because of prices for parts and labor. I would go ahead and pay the labor cost. These people charge as much as my doctor, but you get what you pay for. update; I took my VW in for service and was expecting OEM parts. You have to tell them you want OEM parts. My wife and I live part time in Taos and part time in California - our 7 year old Audi Q5 has faithfully shuttled us back and forth several times, but when I tried to start it up last week, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, with four indicator lights indicating trouble & the engine turned over 3-4x longer than usual before starting. I thought we were in for a huge bill and painful ordeal, but a friend recommended Metric Motors and I'm so grateful he did. Juan fixed our car in only a few hours - after finding out that rodents had chewed some wiring, he replaced that and even checked out the rest of the car for free (confirming there were no other repairs needed & not trying to sell us anything additional). Metric Motors was professional throughout - calling the day before our appointment with a reminder and following up the day of with a diagnosis before Juan ultimately fixed everything. The best part? My car died during a Taos ski trip. I was able to get it to Metric Motors. Although it was over the Christmas holiday, they stayed late. They knew I was in from out of town and was in a bind. They could have taken advantage of the situation, but didn't. After diagnosing the problem they gave me an estimate. I was shocked when the actual cost was less than the estimate!! In late 2017 (approximately November) I took my vehicle in for repairs primarily to one of the cylinders which had burnt out and could no longer maintain compression. I payed a little over $1000 to have the head re-milled and damaged parts replaced. The car was working fine for a few months before I started to notice it developing some of the same symptoms that preceded the need to take to the shop in the first place. Namely a rough idle and occasional stalling. When I brought it back in in April to ask Metric to look it over, they told me the car just needed oil and it would be fine. I also asked how the spark plug in the previously damaged cylinder looked, because all previous plug would be burnt and have carbon build up unlike the other plugs, due to the damaged cylinder. I was told that the spark plugs looked fine and that I should invest is better spark plug brands such as NGK and Bosch, apparently unaware that I already had NGK brand spark plugs installed. In any case I continued to drive my vehicle for at least another month, diligently maintaining the oil levels, but the previously mentioned symptoms continued to persist just as they had before the repairs, so I decided to check the spark plug myself. Just like the spark plugs looked before the repairs, the one that I was told was "fine" was burnt all to hell and had so much carbon build up that the nub could barely even be seen. Due to other pressing circumstances I didnt have the time to take my vehicle back to have it looked at, nor can I now. A few more months on, the symptoms are worse than ever, the car is clearly not idling properly and very obviously shaking the vehicle. I have no doubt that the exact same cylinder will have to be repaired at a later date. Not only were the repairs either done incorrectly, or were not comprehensive enough, leaving my vehicle in effectively the same state that it was before I payed Metric $1000 to have it fixed; but they also either knowingly lied about the state of the vehicle when I asked for a check up later or simply didnt know what they were talking about. All things considered, I would highly recommend thinking twice before relying on their services for anything other than the most basic of maintenance. read more

Shop around and beware. Pick-up was evaluated by Metric and was told truck needed new head-gasket for a cost of $1,300. Received call and was told that truck needed new heads at a cost of $3,200. Metric charged over $600 to diagnose this problem. Spoke with another mechanic who said truck model has known problem with cracking heads. Metric should never have promised they could fix truck knowing that heads would be bad and would cost much more than estimate. New engine is $3,500 installed. Rude and dishonest mechanics. Not recommended. Wasted $600 to find out the hard way! Truck is still not fixed. read more

I brought my car in for a simple idle adjustmant, But, After being charged almost $1000, having to pay for an overnight room because they didn't finish the work that day as promised, having to bring the car back and leave it again for several days. My car runs worse than it did before and sustained even more damage from their rough handling and poor workmanship. These guys had serviced my Audi about 15 years ago and I had not gone back to them since. This year I needed to buy some good snow tires. I always do research on major purchases and found this business carried Nokian tires. I believe in getting the most out of my tires by rotating and balancing them religiously. As such, free rotation and balancing is a must from whomever I buy tires. I went ahead and bought the tires because I was told that this service was provided for free with the Nokian tires. I took my car in yesterday to have the tires rotated for first time after install. I was told that the service is free only when I'm paying for some other service, i.e. oil change, and BTW sorry that no one had explained this to me when I bought the tires (even though I specifically asked before purchasing the tires). I believe they intentionally colored over this very important bit of information in order to make the sale. I've relayed my experience to several people only to hear, "Yes, I've not heard good things about these guys". If you for-go this advice and get service from these guys anyway, read the fine print, be wary of important information being withheld and hold on to your wallet, tightly. read more

Metric Motors accepts after-hour returns of U-Haul equipment, which means they are able to make fraudulent claims about the state of the returned equipment in order to receive "cleaning" charges. We returned our U-Haul rental after-hours (during a holiday) and were charge $25 (+$2.05 tax) for cleaning. When we called to complain, they claimed that the truck was returned dirty. This is a lie. They claimed to have taken photos of the dirty truck. Well, apparently they have a little scam where they put trash into a clean truck and snap a few photos. If you return U-Haul equipment to Metric Motors, make sure you are present. DO NOT use their after-hours drop off ... or you will be ripped off! read more
