You have to really be careful here 25 years ago this place was good but through the years not at all and the owner just needs to retire already. I have had multiple incidents and friends that I had sent here too of things not properly fixed or put back together as well as prolonged weeks of waiting for any clear update or the vehicles being ready to pick up. read more

Another TAOS RIP OFF. Referred to them by another local mechanic, muffler issue. The owner looked at my car, told me to come back in a week - New muffler he said, but no written estimate. I asked, he said maybe $500. While there, I had them look into additional issues, i.e. 02 sensors, engine burning oi, overall road worthiness. (2003) etc. he said it needed suspension work, tires, etc. Also, I was apprised that there was rodent damage. I left several lists, and the car twice for a week each time. Very little got done. I purchased two parts (on Ebay) to be installed (fairly easy) and was charged $250.00 labor. The 4 tires quoted were switched to another type, and charged an extra $27+ each without contacting me. The bill came to over $3700. The 02 sensor was scanned and replaced, and the next day, the engine light on again. I'm still a bit in shock because the owner Norbert seemed like a nice guy. He's incredibly overwhelmed, with little help in the office. Next, the AC blower went out and turned out there was a mouse inside. Creepy, yes, but not my fault. They charged $100 to remove it in addition to the blower removal and replacement, $250+. $600 total. I am a retired person on a modest (dwindling) fixed income. No fair work or prices here, and now I'm staring at the engine light on and more rodent damage. Very disappointed and out nearly $4,000. read more

Would not recommend them at all to anyone. My daughter brought her car (which was running, but idled slightly rough at times) in. He (the owner Norbert) was very rude and condescending to her, so I went in and when he heard I was her dad, he was all apologetic. We asked him several times for him to call with an estimate of repairs before the work was done. He never told them, and just did the work anyway. And I believe based on what he did, he overcharged them. If I could I would give them no stars. read more

I made an appointment to have my car's oil change and service. Taos Offroad was booked so I made an appointment for about 3 weeks later. Be sure to book ahead cuz you might not get your car in on the same day. The parking was limited but I finally found a space. When I went inside they were very friendly and made me feel right at home. Luis was very helpful in explaining my tire psi and what exactly happens when I am going from Ski Valley to Taos. We also discussed the importance of checking your oil more often. Don't always rely on the bells and whistles on the vehicle. They were great and I highly recommend them. If you want your vehicle intentionally sabotaged - this place is guaranteed to do it for you. If you check out these photos below, that's what these guys will do to your car if you have even the slightest disagreement with them. What you're looking at is a hole in a rear differential. Yep, this shop's owner Norbert, air hammered a hole when I brought my vehicle back to be repaired again after he messed up the first time. If you have to know what happened the first time, he managed to change the wheel oil seal on the wrong side. When I pointed that out, he agreed to "fix" the issue, although he didn't sound too happy about it, and was clearly acting as if it was my fault in the first place. Luckily the hole he made wasn't effective enough to leak all of the oil out as I'm guessing the result he was aiming for. ( he couldn't even do this right...) The moral of the story, stay as far away from this place as you possibly can, unless your car could use some extra holes. read more

Caught these crooks putting used parts in my car, when they charged me for new parts. BEWARE! These guys are thieves.

Norbert, Luis, Anna-Lisa and the whole crew at Taos Off-road is great. I got stuck in the mud out on the Mesa this winter, frozen in for 4 days, so of course my Jeep needed some work. Norbert correctly diagnosed some strange noises - a worn out power steering pump - very efficiently. When I broke down a few weeks later with a rusted drive shaft, they tried to fix it same day and efficiently got the job done. When my whole air intake fell out (!!!) they upgraded my ride with a new cold air intake with lots of custom details on the install. Glad to have these guys as my local go-to mechanic in Taos. Always great prices and trust worthy diagnosis. Highly recommend. read more

I highly recommend this auto shop. Luis the front desk person and Norbert the owner have helped me tremendously through a variety of different problems. From issues with my SUV, hitch installations for 2 separate vehicles, to a major problem with my trailer last summer (I couldn't have made my road trip without Norbert's keen eye and expertise!) I sent my friend there for an engine problem with her car in November. She was skeptical at first and compared prices around town. In the end, Norbert and his team offered the best deal for her. They are very honest, knowledgeable, and caring people. I'm grateful to have a local place to trust with my vehicle. read more

I have had body repair done here several times over a period of years with good results. However, the last time they did work I had a problem afterwards. Just know that what you can't see when it is done can turn out to be a problem later. Unfortunately when I took it back in I was told it will cost me have them fix something that obviously was not done right the first time they worked on it. A piece of trim they installed came loose so now I have to pay for them to get another one and install it. After the work was done I told them the passenger side rear door was very difficult to shut. Now I know why and they should have know also when I brought it back. read more

This is a great local business. We are new to Taos and a friend recommended Taos Offroad when I was having trouble with my car. I arrived around 9am they day before New Years Eve and they drove my car and diagnosed the problem within 30 minutes! They were able to work on my car right away, replacing the CV driveshaft and in less than 2 hours they were finished! Another bonus is that the repair cost less than $300, which is rare these days to get anything fixed on your car for less than that. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Sidenote: They gave another customer and her children a ride home so they could work on her vehicle before they closed for the holiday! This is a great business and if you have any car issues I would HIGHLY recommend them. read more

Complaint Details This issue started on 7/27/2020 I am being billed 1602.45. $923.36 for parts $540 for labor $128.09 for tax and $20 for miscellaneous charges I have not paid my invoice Norbert at Taos Off road told me that I needed to replace the case on my drive shaft along with the yoke. It took him over 2 months to order the parts and to Begin work on my vehicle. After waiting so long I offered to purchase the parts myself, to which he stated were already ordered I had a family emergency out of state and had to leave for 12 months. When I returned ! inquired about my vehicle and was informed that he installed a new transfer case as well as fixing the drive shaft case, a few other minor things like seals and the u-joints. I hadn't asked him to do anything else to the vehicle. He told me that my boyfriend had gone in and asked him to do it and he told my boyfriend that I had asked for the starter to be replaced. I would need to pay off most of the balance to take the vehicle. I asked him why it was so expensive to replace the case on the drive shaft and I was told he put a new transfer case along with the starter. I asked for a detailed printouts of the parts and charges for the labor and immediately noticed a discrepancy in the pricing of the parts and extra labor and services I had not asked for. I've priced the parts at multiple places and have come to the conclusion he is overcharging for parts and extra services I didn't ask for. Ive asked to speak with Norbert about the discrepancies I see And he hasn't returned a phone call, or texted, or even emailed. read more
