Three stars means OK. So this was OK. I was surprised with this location on Garlington at Woodruff that it would not be packed out on a Tuesday at lunch. However, there were only a handful of patrons between 11:30 and 1:45 time that we sat, ate and visited. Which was nice because we were not in the way nor were we disturbed, so we had a good, long lunch. This is also one of the customizable assembly lines where you pick a rice base for your bowl and down the line with additions, proteins, toppings etc. It is just that many of the proteins are raw fish. All of which was good. I got a pre-chosen offering of the restaurant called the Da King bowl, which has rice, seaweed salad, tuna, and I chose a wasabi sauce to go along with the ponzu sauce. This was one big mess of a mix of food, but tasty and healthy. The restaurant itself is smaller, with 8 or nine tables but most tables seat six and are suitable for shared seating. Its healthy, and tasty, but just not my favorite thing to jumble so many flavors into a bowl. I would definitely return, but not make it a destination trip, just one of convenience. read more

I tried Poke Bros multiple times when I was in SC. Of the three different times, the last one was somewhat questionable. If I was to rate my first two experiences, my review would have been 4-5 stars. They get 3 stars because the last time we went in, the place smelled so fishy. If I was a person who ate raw seafood, I would have been super turned off by the smell and would have left. The only reason I continued to order is that I always order shrimp which is cooked and seemed safe. I ordered the Hula Bowl and added a few extras to it like pineapple and crispy onions. It was actually delicious! One thing that we were wondering about is a special bowl on one of the days. It contained mango (which is our favorite) but mango was no where to be found on the bar. Do they have it stored somewhere? The reason why I bring this up is that I always prefer mango a topping rather than pineapple. I would have asked for it on my bowl if I had seen the special bowl before ordering. I remember asking about it in one of my visits and they said they didn't have it. The food is good but the atmosphere is poor. You walk in & there is no music playing. It's eerily creepy. Once they have served everyone in line, the employees go in the back. What are they doing back there? Who knows?! I just don't like sitting in a restaurant by myself, where you can hear a pin drop. I also wish the company had a recycling bin for their plastic containers. It is so much plastic! I like these containers where I take the meal for home - I use them to store food. But when you're sitting in the restaurant, they need something else or a blue recycling bin. read more

When news of this place coming, we were really excited about it since we were just in Hawaii and poke was definitely a dish to eat. Was quite surprised when I noticed it was at the corner of Garlington Road and Woodruff Road (I know, I try to avoid this road due traffic). Since my Hone had been out of town for over a week, cycling across NC and ate out each day he was more inclined to having home cooked meal. BUT, because it was his birthday and there was nothing in the fridge for lunch after church, he was quite willing to eat here once I mentioned it. It was empty when we showed up, though I like the sparse and clean decor, tile floor, corian counters (maybe as I'm not a builder), etc. It reminds me of when you walk into Moe's, except without the crew yelling at you, and it's much quieter and peaceful, and it's clean here. An employee came out from the back area and welcomed us. She was very nice. She started on my husband's bowl since I was still contemplating. Another employee came out and created my bowl. And our son selected his. Our son is a picky eater but had enjoyed poke before. Cannot believe how large the bowls are, and the selection of items! Great!. I was able to have them do half spicy and regular, so many different options to choose, etc. While we ate there, we did see many people come in, order their bowl and leave. Definitely fast food and much healthier. I wasn't able to finish my bowl (and I'm a big eater). Prices of bowls start at $9.50 and go up from there. May be kinda expensive for fast-food but the portion size, all the fresh ingredients would justify it. One thing to keep in mind, since our bowl had fish, you can't really keep it more than that day. Poke Bros has become a recent obsession of mine. Imagine my surprise when I realized there was a location less than 2 miles from my hotel--a big win for me! I used the gps to get here because I wasn't familiar with the area. The plaza is set off a little from the road. Unfortunately, it can be easy to miss because of all the construction. I stopped in twice during my stay and it was completely empty both times. Each time, the staff members were friendly. Inside is smaller than other locations I've been to. I built my own bowl with brown rice, shrimp, edamame, cucumber, corn, sweet soy, and sesame seeds. It was delicious! The ingredients are always fresh. The portion is great for the price. Following a late church service the family needed a good place to grab dinner. When the kids saw the Poke Bros sign, I knew where we were going. We normally eat at Poke Bros on Pelham, so this was our first visit to this location. We arrived at 8:30pm, which was just 30 minutes before they closed. The two people working promptly helped us create our bowls and had no trouble at all with us arriving so near their time to close. The restaurant itself was clean and the kids loved the food as always. I didn't feel the Spicy Tuna and Marinated Tuna were quite as flavorful as I remember, but nothing to really fuss about. We were able to eat our meals and leave before their close time which was convenient. They only had three flavors of mochi left so only two of the kids tried the mochi. I try to avoid Woodruff Rd. as the traffic is enough to cause suicidal thoughts, but if you find yourself nearby you should give Poke Bros a try. read more

Speaking from someone who has roots in Hawaii, it really is about time that Poke made it's way to the Upstate! I loved the freshness of the ingredients. The High Tide I ordered (over salad greens rather than brown or white rice) was served notably with shrimp, chicken and avocado. Wow. Edamame, pineapple, carrot and green onions added great texture. I asked them to reduce the amount of sauce they normally put to about half. Also had ahi added to complete my bowl. The Awkward: Restaurant doesn't have much seating, so tables can be shared. Walked in hungry after a long day of travelling, and really just wanted something quick and clean to eat. I normally would have built my own bowl, but this time I decided to let the gal working the bar decide for me. I asked her what her favorite signature bowl is. She replied, "the Duke", so I got it -- with greens. It was very good and the fish was fresh! I have been wanting to try this place (thanks to Yelp) and I was not disappointed! You can order one of their signature bowls or create your own. A mixed greens blend, sushi rice, white or brown rice are options for your base. We did one of each - the Duke signature bowl, which was very good and spicy. It had spicy tuna and spicy salmon (both raw), veggies such as cucumber, onion, jalepeno, seaweed salad, etc, and added fish eggs. The create-your-own had spicy chicken and tuna (not the spicy version, I thought it was nice that each meat offered a spicy and a non spicy version) I added crab, avocado, fresh edamame, carrots, corn, onion and wonton chips. There were many sauces to choose from. I went with sweet soy, and coconut ginger, both on the side:) Both bowls were surprisingly filling- we took our leftovers to go. I'm giving this two stars because before I found 3 hairs in my food and one in my friends food, the food was decent. The person making my food was not wearing gloves, was in a random sweatshirt and had no hairnet on (so I guess I should've known I was gonna find hair.) When I brought it up to the manager, he got extremely defensive and angry, claiming that the hairs were "fabric." I called the restaurant to tell them and the girl that answered the phone said yeah I thought the shrimp had a weird look also but I don't eat shrimp so I wasn't sure. She said when I peeled the shrimp, it didn't feel right or look right and when I cooked it, it had a strong smell. but I guess they thought it was OK to serve it anyway.
