To be honest, it was the first sushi spot I saw, but also looked on Yelp to look at others and within the proximity. It seemed like a great spot to try. I really like the idea of it having a Mexican and Japanese mix of food. The menu items were very creative. I ended up going with the Toro hand roll and a triple tango roll. The sushi was very flavorful, but I was a little disappointed that they did not come back to give me extra ginger, and I asked for it. Maybe because we were eating outside and the waiter forgot about us. So I definitely be inclined to try eating in the next time or else I'll order carry out. read more

I love a good fusion spot and my friend was interested in getting some sushi so we decided to give this place a try. It was a quick walk from our hotel, and we were seated pretty quickly. We started off with some chips and guac which was okay and wish the guac had some more salt! For my main I went with two tacos and a side of their fries. The shrimp tako had 4 pieces of large shrimp fried to perfection and a nice sauce to go with it. The fish tako was also delicious and well seasoned with a nice slaw. The server was wonderful. As a huge fan of the southwest side of the menu from way back when we moved to Greenville in 2008 I was curious what the new ownership would do. It seems that the entire southwest side of the menu is probably been reworked First, the good I like the creamier guacamole. My wife's sushi was wonderful according to her as I am not a fish person When I did find disappointing is there's a new recipe for the beans which had a spice I did not care for or could identify And my very favorite green chili chicken went from being shredded in a bit of the sauce to being dry and the tacos all of a sudden had onions on it. Not at all what it used to be. Finally, I missed the eclectic music mixes the previous owners put together. All seems very corporate now. Well, this will give me the opportunity to try other things on the menu, but it's sad to see the old Tackosushi gone for Good read more

Best Sushi in Greenville -- Hands Down! 5/5 Takosushi is an absolute gem in downtown Greenville! I'm from Atlanta and was in town for a conference, and this ended up being one of the best meals of the trip. Parking was surprisingly easy (just a block away!) and there's even outdoor seating if you have a pup with you. We ordered the Crazy Roll (aka the Kevin Roll), Greenville Roll, Rainbow Roll, and miso soup -- all fresh and delicious, but the Greenville Roll was outstanding. My friends said it was the best sushi they've ever had, and I totally agree. Service was next-level. Lakyn, our waitress, was so sweet and attentive. Ishmael, the sushi chef, made each roll with care, and Parker -- the manager and bartender -- went above and beyond, even holding glasses up to the light to ensure they were spotless. That attention to detail says everything about this place. We were going to try a different restaurant but decided to stop here instead -- and I'm so glad we did. The sushi was moderately good and a bit pricey but it is downtown Greenville. The restaurant itself is beautiful in the Staff is incredibly nice so I really enjoyed the bartender and the ambience. It's worth a visit. I didn't get a chance to try the drinks, but they looked pretty good. read more

Well. Never order tacos from a Japanese restaurant. My kids an I both agree the cuts of steak were way to thick using the not so good parts meaning you had to pull half of it out your mouth. The chicken taco was like mush with little flavor. Probably the worst tacos I've ever had. The sushi was tasteless. I think if you have never had good sushi then this would be ok. If you had actual sushi or actual tacos before this whole meal would be a let down. The place looks nice but the food needs serious work. I guess if your from SC and never had the real stuff and no way to compare this then it will pass. Asked for no mayo, they put the teriyaki glaze in with mayo in a side dish. I won't order from here again just because its to mediocre and probably gets Buisness due to the building esthetics. Super shocked at all the good reviews lol read more

I'm not a big reviewer on here. I like to get establishments some grace because occasionally everyone has a bad day. But geez...this place is really not good! I don't see how it has 4 stars. So that needs to be counterbalanced by someone telling the truth about this place. The service wasn't good....right from the get go. Was told there was be a 15min wait for 2 people but I'd get a text when a spot was ready. Sat outside in the cold waiting. Never got a text. After 20 mins and seeing at least 3 open spots inside for 2 I go in where I'm greeted again but the same host as if he didn't recognize me from 20 mins ago and I say I'm on the list and how long for a table and he says "oh we've got plenty of tables how about right here?" Ok fine.. I can get past that. The host sucks. But then the service sucked too. The tables and menus and generally everything in the place was kind of quasi-dirty. Had to wait 10 mins for the server to come over and say hi. Order drinks. After 15 mins need as the server where they are because an app had already come out and he says "oh...they're at the bar let me get those for you". Geez...thanks. The drinks were both DISGUSTING!! Two different margaritas that tasted like they were made with sugary syrups. Basically undrinkable. Then eventually manager starts bringing out some of our food from the kitchen and it was all cold (clearly server forgot about that too!). And in general the food was just kind of gross. One sushi roll we ordered was good...but that was one out of 6 items we ordered. Again, I know people have bad days and get in the weeds...I've been a server. But this was not that. This place was just not good in too many different ways to not let people know because I was definitely expecting something much better when a place has a 4* review in here. Net...if you like good food, in a clean establishment, where the people working there act as if your presence matters even a little bit...find a different restaurant. She did an excellent job. But the whole place is schizophrenic. The music selection is all over the place. The food offering is a bit weird. It was different - I had to reread the menu. But I will say it was pretty good. We went in for dinner- plenty of seating- casual more than dressy. Not too loud. Service was really fast. I had the Shrimp Tempura and TNT rolls - it was fresh and pretty good. We had guacamole and potstickers for apps. Odd combo- but if you're at a place called Takosushi do you have a choice? Potstickers were decent- guacamole also decent - mainly avocado needed more onions and spices. Would get potstickers again but north guac. Large portion though. My friend had the caprese salad- also really good. Just an odd combination of food- but it works. Full bar. Reasonable pricing - nothing more you need for a Monday night dinner. read more

Me and my boyfriend came to visit and had this our first night! The food was DIVINE, I highly recommend the Tempura Asparagus & Spicy Tuna Roll (basic but very good & fresh). The service was also wonderful, our server Jorge was just amazing and so personable. My boyfriend also had Chipotle Bloody Maria and he LOVED it. The vibes are also super nice in there, a large bar section with super comfortable seats at both bar and tables. Overall, so wonderful & tasty. Also SUPER affordable for sushi & food in general (especially considering that it's all fresh). Couldn't recommend it enough!! I came to this location to pick up a door dash order. I was ignored by the 1st host he walked right past me as I was standing at the hostess podium. One of the waitress saw what he did and she walked up to me and asked me what I needed. I explained that I was there for a DoorDash order. She asked me to go to the bartender station and I just knew I was not gonna get any help like I did not get any help from the 1st waiter that ignored me. I basically had the waitress to come back and see if the order was ready. She explained that it wasn't. I had to cancel this order because there was nowhere for me to park and I was parked Illegally in the area . I would suggest for people to not come to this establishment. I was super excited to stumble across this spot on a stop over in Greenville. I've never been to a restaurant that offers both sushi and Mexican food! We ordered the spring rolls to start and they were served with a sweet chili sauce. We didn't think they were any special but the presentation was adorable. My shrimp tempura roll was amazing! I asked for a side of spicy Mayo which put it over the top. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the combination of flavors was delicious. My partner ordered two tacos a la carte. Each taco is $5 which is a bit steep but he's not a sushi fan. He said the chicken and chorizo taco was not very good-it's was overly oily and had a strange flavor. The 8 hour smoked pork taco was much better. The tacos came with guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. The guac was delicious, the salsa fell short. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for the sushi. I don't think the other half of the menu is up to par. read more

I've probably been to Takosushi a few dozen times in my life, but never outside of happy hour (4-6pm mondays-fridays) so this is a niche review. Each visit and order is pretty much the same, and even though it's been a few years since my last visit, this recent visit was no different - some chips and salsa, some drinks, and some tried and true fish takos - fried, and with soft flour tortillas. The fish takos are crunchy and delicious and come with a plethora of toppings. And the prices for happy hour are extremely reasonable. There's a lot of nostalgia tinging this review, which is why even though the happy hour food menu has always been a 7 or 8 out of 10, it still gets 5 stars from me. If you want an inexpensive place for some happy hour drinks and food, Takosushi is my go-to in downtown. read more

I went to Takosushi after hearing my mom rave about it all the time. This is her go-to lunch spot so I knew I had to try it. We arrived for dinnertime and were seated at a pretty small table for 4 people. There was practically no space for all our food dishes. We ordered the firecracker shrimp, sumo soup, and 3 different sushi rolls. Let's start off with the shrimp--WOW. This was hands-down the best flavored fried shrimp I've ever had. The shrimp is ginormous and breaded in a crunchy coating. The sauce is to die-for. Creamy, spicy, sweet and so so good with white rice. The sumo soup, on the otherhand, was kind of bland and lackluster. It had tons of delicious seafood, but the broth itself was nothing special. I don't exactly remember the sushi roll names but they were pretty good! Their spicy tuna roll sounds very simple, but it's actually pretty good and filling. Used to be my favorite place downtown. Was concerned when I heard they sold to the same group as Carolina Ale House.. While it didn't affect it for their first 5 months.. The new ownership group has really driven it down hill. First, their new menu is horrible. They reconfigured it and took a lot of the staples away. Second, their quality has gone down hill. Seems like it's just slapped together food now instead of actually presenting the food as a cohesive dish. Third, they got a B rating in their food safety.. Very concerning. So sad that this concept is being destroyed. It's so unique and used to be such a rock solid choice. Can't recommend it now. read more
