Been feeling homesick for California this past week and wanted to see if Poke Bros is up to snuff. The verdict? It IS real authentic poke with all the bowl fixings you need! I had the Johnny Utah, add tofu (free) with an extra scoop of protein (additional fee). The bowl was ridiculously tasty with the spicy salmon, avocado, cucumbers, edamame, OG sauce (like a spicy mayo), masago (smelt eggs), and all topped with crunchy onion and tempura. The real winner here is that they have not just white rice and brown rice, but sushi rice that's actually mixed with a flavorful vinegar - this is how it's ACTUALLY done in real sushi restaurants! And their amazing wasabi sauce they've concocted with honey was a real surprise. Sounds crazy but is genuinely well-balanced and works so well with your bowl. The only reason why I give it 4 stars is it IS a little on the pricier side (about $14 with extra protein) and the protein portions are already small. Also, their sauce is a little heavy-handed but this can be remedied by asking for it on the side or for less. Overall, it's an extremely filling bowl and I'm all about supporting local business during this new Shelby County shut down. We called in an order for 5 meals; drove 40 minutes to pick up the meals and return only to discover we only received 4 meals. This was frustrating but everyone makes mistakes. We called to find out what happened. This is where you wonder who is teaching customer service. The person answering the phone was more concerned about telling us how they never make a mistake, etc., etc. We were not interested in a refund. Good thing because we never even got an apology.
