Nice big sign in their main dining room.

This restaurant is spotlessly clean, staffed by the nicest possible people, and serving some of the tastiest food I've ever eaten. It's a total not miss and should be added to your list of fast food restaurants. I had never heard of it before day. I clearly have been missing out! I requested the Number #2 (salmon, I think) and it was delish! They offered to put a few extras on at that end, e.g. dried onions, dried wontons (I think) and that gave this tasty salad a nice crunch! Highly recommend you try it. We walked by a Wendy's and although I was craving a burger my friend said let's try Poke as we'll avoid the "meat/beef bomb sitting in your gut afterward". He was totally right! I felt full and energized but not stuffed. I didn't have the carb slump afterward either. Thank you! Totally awesome! :-) Sincerely, Patrick Shaughnessy Chicago, IL

Spicy Salmon Build Your Own Poke Bowl

First time at this location. Excited to see a poke place so close to me! I built my own bowl (spicy salmon, regular salmon, salad/rice, corn, avocado, cucumber, carrots, masago, edamame, nori, and crisp onion.) I thought the food was fresh. I chose the spicy aioli sauce. I think I'll try another flavor next time. Also, I ordered a black sesame , vanilla chocolate chip, and coconut mochi ice cream 3 for $5. Overall, I like my bowl! Will be back for another Poke bowl!

One hot thunder-stormy evening, we did not feel like cooking. My wife decided to try this poke restaurant for the first time. I was at home, so this time my review focuses on only what I saw from this order. Our order: 1: Johnny Utah (salmon) 2: Da Kine (tuna) Mochi ice cream Da Kine (tuna) - 3 stars My biggest problem was the "sushi rice". I used to work in a Japanese restaurant, and made sushi rice before. After we cooked the rice, we put it into a big tub and poured a vinegar, salt, and sugar mixture before we start "cutting" the rice with a wooden paddle. That kept the rice fluffy and moist. But the rice in this bowl felt pretty dry. This was not proper sushi rice. It felt like they cooked it in a rice cooker with the vinegar. I didn't like it. Also, the poke's main ingredient is fresh fish. The tuna was dry and rubbery. The vegetables and the sauce were good. I liked their flavor. But probably I will not order this again. Johnny Utah (salmon) - 4 stars This one includes regular rice, not sushi rice, which I can clearly see was the better option. It is still a little hard, but much more pleasant to eat. Salmon was nice and soft. Sriracha aioli was tasty. This can be a good choice for the first timer. Mochi ice cream we tried were lychee, passion fruit, and green tea. They all had a frozen sorbet texture, rather than ice cream inside. I thought all were just fine. Lastly, we received no utensils in our to-go bag. My total experience score was 3 stars.

We got really lucky with this amazing stand alone restaurant in Lombard. We walked into this cute, unassuming restaurant at around 1:30 for lunch. Interior is really simple and cute and they have options of all you can eat for $33 which is a great deal or à la carte. We chose à la carte as we weren't super hungry. We were so pleasantly surprised at the quality and amount of food that we were served. Everything was super fresh and delicious and there was so much food that we wound up taking some of it home. Presentation was also excellent. We started with the Tsuki sashimi appetizer and the seaweed salad and ended with the maki combination sushi platter. There were so many rolls on the plate and it probably could've served three people. The service that was great and the price was really reasonable. This is such a great find and a place that you really need to check out if you live in the area. We felt so lucky to have stumbled upon it!

So make sure you're paying close attention to your GPS when you're heading there. The good news is it's located in a mall area, so there's plenty of parking, which makes it very convenient. The atmosphere is not overly upscale, but it definitely still gives fine dining energy. The low lighting creates a more intimate vibe, making it a great place for a date night, dinner with friends, or even a relaxed evening meal. The food is consistently good, and the drinks are always on point. This time I ordered the baby back ribs with mashed potatoes, and it was my first time trying that dish there. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone good, and the mashed potatoes were a perfect pairing. My friend ordered the pork chop, butterflied and cut open, and she said it was simply amazing. Now let me get to the real reason I keep coming back. The carrot cake. I have had carrot cake from big-name bakeries and small local mom-and-pop spots, and I'm telling you right now, J. Alexander's has the best carrot cake in the world. If anyone wants to debate that, please let me know where I should go try another slice... or better yet, buy me one so we can compare! Because of that carrot cake alone, J. Alexander's will always be in my Top 10. So yes, the food is good, the drinks are great, the atmosphere is nice...

Huge shoutout to the staff too: super knowledgeable, friendly, and happy to talk through the menu or make recommendations, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming. The space itself is small, but it works. It adds to the cozy vibe instead of feeling cramped, and overall the atmosphere is warm and inviting. New ownership is keeping the ice cream (cinnamon gelato is fantastic) along with the Pineapple Dole Whip. Theme is North American Fusion so think Canadian, US, Mexican fusion. This place is unique distinct and different and I love it. One of the owners has some legitimate cocktail chops (finalist in season one of Mixology on Netflix) and is bringing his background and passion to Villa Park! You can also try his cocktail bar in Itasca called No School Tomorrow which is similarly different, delicious, and unquestionably a great time especially if you lived life in the 90's. How freakin lucky are we to have a gem like this in Villa Park! My only hope is that we don't blow it. Like any new restaurant they are refining menu items and working out kinks. Food and drinks are on the pricier side (they have a solid kids hot dog and fries option for $5 for kids though) but what is the going rate for Squid Ink?! It is also unlike anything else you will find in Villa Park or Western Suburbs, or really anywhere so I would say absolutely worth it. Staff is also ridiculously friendly and excited about their product. While they have awesome specialty cocktails that you will not find anywhere else (pozole spices in a cocktail?!) they are also great making any classic cocktail you can come up with. My one feedback for now would be to up the dish-ware if going with higher price items vs going with paper products. This might just be they are testing things out. I'm also excited to see some brunch options or perhaps coffee and pastries in the future to get the biker/ boozy brunchy weekenders with kids crowd.
