Camarones Rancheros lunch special($8.99)

This mariscos spot has become our go to in the burbs for Mexican seafood. We came here once on a whim & really liked it. On our third visit, the waitress introduced us to their budget friendly lunch menu which a lot of seafood places do not have & we now love it! We even introduced my Asian mother-in-law to this restaurant & she loves it too, meeting her friends here for dinners. Over all, it's a delicious spot and would definitely recommend it if you're in the area. FYI: Full Bar on hand also

I remember passing this place several times. Today I was in the mood for a hot soup and decided to try the fish soup at this Mexican seafood place. It was not too busy on a Friday though it was about 5pm. They welcome you with a sample their ceviche, green salsa, lime, tostadas and crackers.careful the salsa is very spicy! I ordered the caldo de pescado and it did not disappoint! They also have a nice choice of cocktails and beer (domestic and imported). Don't let me forget to mention the staff. All were very nice and friendly! Great place to hang out and have some delicious seafood!

I was on the lookout for Paella. Finally I found excellent Seafood Paella today at Mariscos Miramar. This dish had all sorts of seafood, including mussels , two types of shrimps, crab legs, etc - the flavor was to die for. It was excellent. They initially served apprizers - civechi and fresh crushed mint chutni with crisp Tortia which was very good too. Service was pretty good and the place was very neat and clean. It was not crowded, but yet a lot of traffic. I would go there any time and try some of the other dishes.

We stopped in to pick up our take out order and decided to have a drink at the bar. This large mango margarita was soooo good! With tajín around the rim it was perfectly sweet and spicy that was easy to finish. Overall the service was ok the staff wasn't that attentive. We kept having to wave down someone just to get the basic necessities while we waited for our order. The food was amazing! However they can do a better job at packing sauces. One of our sauce containers collapsed and there was plastic all in the sauce. Next time hopefully it's better.

Langoustines

The first time here I ordered the langoustines: bomb. Flavorful, tender and filling. I'd go back just for that.Well I did go back, but I went for the huachinango though. I LOVE whole fish as much as I love langoustines mind you. Both of these plates are perfect. I ordered it diablo style but the diablo sauce on the side. The fish was crispy, no fishy after taste. The sauce is as described tangy and spicy. The reason I give 4 not 5 stars is for the service. There is a slight language barrier. My bf ordered club soda with a lime (from the bar) and got a bottle of mineral water. Seems like no big deal but it's a glass bottle, pricey. Other than that, definitely planning on another visit!

So you want some good Mexican seafood??!! Well this is the place!!! Wow I'm so full right now and my seafood cravings are good for a while! Come check it out some really good food. The shrimp quesadilla was amazing. Be careful though when you order your drink like horchata, that will get you filled up quick.

I have been here twice and both times I've left satisfied. My bf had been wondering about this place for a while, so today, when we were unsure as to where to go for an early dinner, I remembered this place. We walked in and we got to pick where to sit. We chose a booth in the back by the bar area. We were given menus and the complimentary ceviche and the very spicy green salsa. The ceviche was delicious! I ordered a mango margarita which was pretty tasty. As my entree I had the grilled shrimp. The size of the shrimp was impressive. They were full of flavor and there were plenty on my plate. It came with rice, salad and garlic bread. I was full but kept on eating. I ate the whole thing!!! My bf had the shrimp cocktail and a spicy shrimp dish. He enjoyed both very much. There are so many options on the menu that I can't wait to go back.

It was our 2nd visit to this place. I beleaguered it was fantastic my only comment is that my fried fish was too much fried that it got dried out and cant get any meat out of it. It was like a rock i think it should be cook less than the time they usually cook unless this is really what it's supposed to be like, However as asian and growing up in a country where we get fresh fish and seafood everyday im sure i probably know how it should be done. It's just not the way i would cook it, i need more meat at least not crunchy fish. But other than that everything is fine love the fresh cut veggies servers are really polite was a bit loud and noise inside but its all good!

Pasta Brava and Levante Muertos

To celebrate the end of my summer semester and my 4.0 GPA my papi took me out to lunch after my last final exam! Of course I wanted Mariscos. They have created the best patio according to CDC guidelines. We really enjoyed sitting outside! We got the small Levante Muertos, the Pasta Brava and the Shrimp Emapanadas. We also got 2 large Tamarind Margaritas, our favorite. The Levante Muertos is soooo good! Service is soooo sweet and friendly. Masks are required for entry because you have to walk thru the interior to get to the patio.

Just delicious!! Pina relleno and the stuffed lobster tail were so yummy.....so much food! And the ceviche off the chart!! Our waitress was exceptional...friendly, attentive, funny, just a very nice lady. We were celebrating our 31 anniversary and couldn't of asked for a better dinner!! Thank you!

We got really lucky with this amazing stand alone restaurant in Lombard. We walked into this cute, unassuming restaurant at around 1:30 for lunch. Interior is really simple and cute and they have options of all you can eat for $33 which is a great deal or à la carte. We chose à la carte as we weren't super hungry. We were so pleasantly surprised at the quality and amount of food that we were served. Everything was super fresh and delicious and there was so much food that we wound up taking some of it home. Presentation was also excellent. We started with the Tsuki sashimi appetizer and the seaweed salad and ended with the maki combination sushi platter. There were so many rolls on the plate and it probably could've served three people. The service that was great and the price was really reasonable. This is such a great find and a place that you really need to check out if you live in the area. We felt so lucky to have stumbled upon it!

So make sure you're paying close attention to your GPS when you're heading there. The good news is it's located in a mall area, so there's plenty of parking, which makes it very convenient. The atmosphere is not overly upscale, but it definitely still gives fine dining energy. The low lighting creates a more intimate vibe, making it a great place for a date night, dinner with friends, or even a relaxed evening meal. The food is consistently good, and the drinks are always on point. This time I ordered the baby back ribs with mashed potatoes, and it was my first time trying that dish there. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone good, and the mashed potatoes were a perfect pairing. My friend ordered the pork chop, butterflied and cut open, and she said it was simply amazing. Now let me get to the real reason I keep coming back. The carrot cake. I have had carrot cake from big-name bakeries and small local mom-and-pop spots, and I'm telling you right now, J. Alexander's has the best carrot cake in the world. If anyone wants to debate that, please let me know where I should go try another slice... or better yet, buy me one so we can compare! Because of that carrot cake alone, J. Alexander's will always be in my Top 10. So yes, the food is good, the drinks are great, the atmosphere is nice...

The price point was on the high side for us but not out-of-reach. We arrived and was immediately sat in the bar; in fact, everyone is sat in the bar. The dining room has about twenty tables, and they were two tables being used; the bar also had about twenty tables and every table was sat. I asked the waiter and they do sit the bar area first and overflow into the dining room. With the bar area at near capacity and all hard surfaces it was very loud. The dining room had carpet floor and a coffered beamed ceiling it was tremendously quiet. If you want the energy of a crowded restaurant the bar is great, the dinning rom is a more upscale experience.  We started with Calamari Friiti, that is the title of the dish. In smaller print the description is Crispy Fried Calamari, Zucchini,  and herbs. What was served was 70% NOT Calamari but thin fried zucchini strips, fried rosemary (literally the twig of rosemary in batter and fried), and fried thyme (the thyme was removed from the twig so I could not even find it., but the waiter said it was there. At $19  expected more Calamari at least 60%, after all the dish was not called "fried herbs and Calamari". Our table had Spaghetti and Meatballs at $24, the Stuffed Pork Chop special (with Broccoli Rabe) at $27, and I had the Eggplant Parmigiana at $20. I get eggplant Parmesan a lot, it is my favorite Italian dish. $20 is high for eggplant Parmesan, I prefer my eggplant thinly sliced and fried. This is more three eggplant steaks with cheese and red gravy. Not my personal favorite but good. The pasta was so unusual I had to ask about it; the waiter said it is made from scratch in house but the shape in an Italian grocery store would be casarecce. I thought $24 for Spaghetti and Meatballs high but my husband said the Meatballs were excellent. Finally, $27 for one Stuffed Pork Chop also seemed high but it tasted great, the garlic white wine sauce made a tasty glaze. We ordered Tiramisu for the table and one person got the blueberry sorbet. I found the Tiramisu traditional and another person thought the mascarpone cheese was whipped too much. I read a several reviews, most of the reviewers praised the service as outstanding; we found our server disappearing for 30 - 40 minutes; we had to call someone over to order desert and another to get the check.

New ownership is keeping the ice cream (cinnamon gelato is fantastic) along with the Pineapple Dole Whip. Theme is North American Fusion so think Canadian, US, Mexican fusion. Menu include regional favorities across North America from Birria Poutine (amazing) to a White Fish Sandwich with Squid Ink and lime crema (come on now! It's fire!). This place is unique distinct and different and I love it. One of the owners has some legitimate cocktail chops (finalist in season one of Mixology on Netflix) and is bringing his background and passion to Villa Park! You can also try his cocktail bar in Itasca called No School Tomorrow which is similarly different, delicious, and unquestionably a great time especially if you lived life in the 90's. How freakin lucky are we to have a gem like this in Villa Park! My only hope is that we don't blow it. Like any new restaurant they are refining menu items and working out kinks. Food and drinks are on the pricier side (they have a solid kids hot dog and fries option for $5 for kids though) but what is the going rate for Squid Ink?! It is also unlike anything else you will find in Villa Park or Western Suburbs, or really anywhere so I would say absolutely worth it. Staff is also ridiculously friendly and excited about their product. While they have awesome specialty cocktails that you will not find anywhere else (pozole spices in a cocktail?!) they are also great making any classic cocktail you can come up with. My one feedback for now would be to up the dish-ware if going with higher price items vs going with paper products. This might just be they are testing things out. I'm also excited to see some brunch options or perhaps coffee and pastries in the future to get the biker/ boozy brunchy weekenders with kids crowd.
