I wasn't thrilled with my first few attempts at other restaurants - but everything changed when we found Maru! The fish is incredible quality. The salmon is my personal favorite - it practically melts in your mouth. The presentation is always incredible. You really are getting the best cut of fish possible. The rolls are varied and interesting, with a good mix of classics like California rolls and some unique rolls. Sushi is never a cheap choice for a meal, but given the quality and the portions, it really does feel kinda like a steal at Maru. Especially the sushi combos. I get takeout often as my little weekly treat, but the dining experience is also incredible! The atmosphere is very chill and laidback. The staff is always super friendly. Anyone who has eaten here enough knows the game: the more pieces you order, the smaller each piece mysteriously becomes. Fine--it's their restaurant. What wasn't fine was having a man who appeared to be the owner/manager come to our table and tell us, "We can't serve you more fish." When I pointed out there is no limit listed anywhere on the menu, his response was: "If we can't make any dollars from you, we don't need you to come." Imagine running an all-you-can-eat restaurant and openly telling paying customers they're no longer welcome because they're eating too much. If your business model depends on shrinking the sushi and cutting people off when they actually use the all-you-can-eat menu, maybe don't call it all-you-can-eat. And if you can't handle customers eating what they paid for, then maybe you're not cut out to run an all-you-can-eat restaurant in the first place. Don't worry--I got the message. I won't be back.
