Yesterday I needed a late lunch and so I thought I'd do drive thru. This place labels itself as fast casual but honestly I was floored they had a drive thru since everything is made while you wait. I was in the drive thru but I couldn't decide what I wanted so I told them I'd come in thinking I would talk to someone. Nope. Kiosks. I still struggled to decide what I wanted although I knew I wanted salmon. At the Lindell location we always got extra salmon because it was cooked perfectly all the time. I settled on a Thai bowl with salmon and chips and queso as a side. And a large iced tea. The cups are sitting between the kiosks with a note telling people to be sure and pay for your beverages. I got my cup and was sitting down with my tea to wait for my to-go order. One of the girls asked if I was doing okay. Yup. Then I realized that I would need sweetner. I asked the other girl (both girls had headsets on which seemed strange) if they had sweetner and she pointed to the dining room and said on the fridge. Now, not only am I short but I have t-rex arms. I had to press myself up against the fridge and something sticky. I was grabbing at 3 little bowls that were sitting back on the fridge. I was standing on my tippy toes reaching. It was not the best spot for some kind of sauce, sugar (no sweetner) and salt. A new worker arrived at the same time someone else came in to order food. She needed help at the kiosk and the same girl who checked on me helped her out. The new girl was asked by her where the cups were and she, without smiling or saying anything just pointed between the kiosks. It was kind of rude. Other than the girl with shorts on the others seemed to be rude. And honestly, it was like 3:30.... they weren't busy. But they didn't seem to be pals either. I took a picture of food. Chips were GREAT! Queso was really good. I opened my salmon bowl and honestly the salmon was overcooked but still tasty. I'm super glad they put the sauces on the side since as we know I'm a wuss when it comes to heat and the Thai sauce (yeah...yesterday was a rough day and I wasn't thinking) was hot! (For me.) Bottom line...cute space, good food that kept me full all day... I'll be back.

You walk in someone greets you and ask you if you've been there before. Essentially you then order your drinks and food up at the counter, take a table number and sit down. They bring it to you. Even though the kitchen was low behind, they still let us sit down which was really awesome. We were able to get our drinks and then they came out with a free sweet potato taco with all their salsa. It was really nice cause you got to taste the salsa before your meal came out. Our meal came out in really good timing. Just wish that the appetizer came out before the food, but it was still really enjoyable. I got a chicken taco and the other person in my party got three different tacos. The crunchy taco is like a rolled taco that's crunchy. And he said it was the best taco all over them. He got. My chicken taco was OK. The salsa definitely helped otherwise it was too dry. We decided to get the dessert of the churros to go. I didn't get a picture of them, but they were really small. And for the price, I don't remember what it was. I think it was like five dollars. I thought it would be a little bit bigger. I don't know if I would get it again because there was also a sweet heat about them and I just was not expecting that. Other than that, the staff really leave you alone other than to bring out your meal, or take your plates.

I think…read morethere may not be enough seating for its customer demand... that's a sign of a popular place. Happy hour prices + the food quality are what had my friend invite me here. Some rolls are half off and so are a few beverages, like hot sake. I had never had hot sake. I've only had any sake once. I liked it fine, but I didn't want a second order after I finished the first. I was disappointed that Robata was out of plum wine. Instead I ordered what was described as a white sangria, but it tasted more like a brandy. I had a few sips and gave it to my friend. I had 4 vegetarian sushi rolls. Only the asparagus was included with happy hour. My 3 other rolls were takuan, pickle plum and BB. As much as I like plum (keep reading), and takuan was a pleasant surprise, and the asparagus was good, the BB, which has tempura asparagus, cream cheese, and sweet soy, was my favorite item of the evening. I was happy to see umeboshi onigiri on the lengthy menu. These were of a good size, but I think it perhaps would have benefitted from a higher pickled plum to rice ratio. (The only time I've had it has been from a food truck and I don't know how representative it is of onigiri.) Each order of food took a while to come out. My friend had trouble getting the server's attention when she wanted to put in more orders. Robata is not a place for a quick happy hour bite. It's going to take a while, especially if you're ordering in multiple rounds like we did. When the kitchen got too busy, my order another roll was denied. That happened well before dinner service ended and it was disappointing. I would have waited a bit longer. But it was probably good to get cut off from sushi at some point. We were a little confused by the bills. My friend may have overpaid (not gotten happy hour price) for some of her items, and there was some question about whether mine had been billed correctly, but in the end we decided that mine was probably correct. Hers, though... we aren't sure. I think I'll return to Robata for the BB roll, plum wine, and maybe something new, but I will be sure to have plenty of time, order a bunch all at once, and check the bill.

I came with a friend for happy hour. We got the half off sushi (which included the mackerel nigiri, which is my FAVORITE (Tho, theirs isn't as good as Sushi Hanna in Alton)) and house hot sake, which was perfect for this freezing week. The heat was out? Which the waitress apologized for. They had a space heater out, so we sat right by that. I also ordered a few of the onigiri to go. They aren't the best I've had, but I'll probably be back semi-regularly to get my fix of the flavor, which is just so unique. Same for half off mackerel Maybe one day I'll even try their non-sushi offerings...
