Tried Poke Parlor for the first time this evening, and thought it was really delicious! I got half sushi rice half mixed greens, with tuna and salmon, and most of the toppings. The restaurant was quite busy, but the staff was extremely patient and gave super large portions. The presentation of the food is spectacular, but I wish that the half sushi rice half mixed greens was divided at the base, rather than the sushi rice spread all throughout the bottom and the mixed greens thrown on top. Other than that, the ingredients were super fresh. Will definitely come back for more poke in the future!! read more

Poke parlor is one of two go-to poke places that I frequented in Berkeley. I always got the make your own bowl options and loved that they had a variety of protein and toppings! Here were some of my order options: Base: either white/sushi rice + mixed greens half and half or zoodles (zucchini noodles!). Loved that they did half and half so I could have some rice without it being too heavy and still getting my veggies in Protein: tuna and/or salmon. Sometimes the fish didn't taste super fresh (particularly the tuna) but that may have been on me for going towards the end of the day. Most times however, the fish was fresh and good quality! Toppings: They were super generous with all the toppings and I loved to load up on them since I'd usually end up eating the bowl for 2 meals. They also had a ton of different veggies and mango/pineapple. Loved that crab salad was included! Sauces: My go-to was ponzu + shoyu but also really liked the sriracha aioli! Overall good. Good portions and the medium bowl I ordered came with more food than I expected compared to other poke places around Berkeley. Poke Parlor has been my go to Poke place for almost all of while I lived in Berkeley. The fish is of reasonable quality, and the options for toppings are seemingly endless. I enjoy getting Poke here because it doesn't cost extra for me to stack add-ons so I often have 20+ distinct ingredients in the bowl. The toppings feel fresh, and I enjoy the great amount of freedom to fully customize my own bowl how I want. It's quite fairly priced for Poke, especially if you order through SnackPass with a friend or multiple friends and get the 15-25% discount that way. It's also situated in a very convenient location, being right on Telegraph very close to the UC Berkeley campus and other stores. Poke Parlor was one of the poke places I often visited in Berkeley as it was quite close to campus and nearby the Pete's coffee/Mezo area. The bowls are pretty standard with the option of pre-built bowls or build your own bowls. As for the base they have options to choose between sushi rice, brown rice, mixed greens or zoodles (zucchini noodles) - great if you are trying to cut down on carbs or are keto! They also do 1/2 and 1/2 for bases if you want to explore a few options. For the protein I normally stuck with Salmon or spicy Salmon, occasionally getting spicy tuna. For the most part the fish tasted fresh and delicious but there were occasional times where the fish did not taste very fresh and it ruined the taste of the rest of the bowl. Toppings are always the largest part of the bowl and there are many to choose from, with some of my go to's including spicy crab salad, furukake, pineapple, corn, jalapeños, kimchi, and edamame. My go to sauces include the ponzu, sriracha aioli and the unagi sauce! The combination of these three is absolutely delicious!! Overall, Poke Parlor is a great place to visit for some Poke cravings, but there are definitely much better and consistently fresh Poke restaurants to try around the Berkeley area. read more

I always look forward to ordering poke bowls on Mondays for their "10% off bowl Mondays" (when you order on Snackpass). I appreciate that the bowls include 2 sides for free with options including masago and crab salad, especially since some poke places charge extra for these sides. I've been here once before and wasn't too fond of it, but decided to give it another try. This time, my experience was completely different. I ordered a small poke bowl with salmon and spicy tuna on brown rice / mixed greens with crab and seaweed salads, and also got a variety of the free toppings! For the sauces I chose a mix of ponzu and shoyu. The fish tasted really fresh and so did the other components, which is super crucial for any poke spot. I especially enjoyed the sauces and toppings such as crispy onions and togarashi on top :). The crab and seaweed salads are also some of my favorite parts of poke, and they did them well here. On the skirt-tails of Emma W and her Berkeley tour de poke, I stopped into PP. As Honolulu is my second home, I'm always skeptical about Mainland poke. I'm concerned about the freshness and sanitary food prep. However with the CM's recommendation, I'm up for the taste test. I was second in line and was able to see the process of building a bowl. The store and items in each bin looked clean. Six steps to make a bowl was fine. The server was wearing gloves as he mixed the bowl with his hands. I've worked in the back of the house and while I used tongs, I know it's a practice to toss salad with a gloved hand. It wasn't until the customer in front of me paid for his meal. The server accepted payment with a credit card and after completing the action, did not remove his gloves. Now it's my turn and he's yet to change gloves. I asked him to put on new gloves. Maybe he didn't understand me, but continued to ask me about my order. I explained I saw him handle payment and he needed to wear a new pair of gloves. Finally with new gloves on, He prepared my bowl of shrimp, tako, and spicy crab. I passed on any raw fish. My meal was delicious. The the protein, toppings, and citrus ponzu dressing were great. $14 +tip. Would have been a five star meal. The verbal exchange about the gloves and a perceived smirk by the server deserved an A-Okay Yelp. Would I come back? Sure. Coming to a place like this, I don't have the expectation of great service. We recently ordered two small build your own Poke bowls. For each bowl, we ordered the yellowtail and ahi tuna proteins plus the seaweed and crabmeat salads. Those items were very good. The Poke Parlor's options are fantastic. First of all, who doesn't appreciate unlimited selection of vegetables, especially if they are locally sourced and sustainable ones? Secondly, I was delighted that I could substitute the sushi rice for so many other things. In the end, I chose salad and zucchini noodles. The citrus ponzu dressing was just right - not too heavy or too light. But, if you're a control freak about that, you can order it on the side and mix it yourself. Oh no! We kind of had a rough go of it at lunch today. We ordered from Poke Parlor through DoorDash. The food came fast, looked great, and was well packaged. Unfortunately, we all ordered salmon in our poke bowls, and the salmon was really, really not fresh. Pretty smelly and sour tasting. Because all of the ingredients are mixed in together, the sour, fishy taste of the salmon got mixed into the rest of the food. Some aspects of the choices were awesome, like the choice to have zucchini noodles was amazing. I love choices that bring more nutrition. But I don't know if I would ever return because we did pay quite a bit of money and most of our lunch was inedible. read more

I always had the build my own bowl and they got pretty monotonous. I usually like to stuff my bowls but wanted to try something new and try some new flavours around. The ceviche bowls is really good. I think they use real lime for their citrusy touch. The only thing I found odd about it is that carb option for it which is pretty much just purple tortilla chips. I also really enjoy the miso soup. Always very tasty, savoury, and delicious. They have really nice interior decor and it's very lovely. A lot of natural sunlight. The typography of the decor is really nice. Very aesthetically pleasing. The service is a mixture. I sometimes get jolly people and thanking me for my service. And there's time where I go in and it's just cold and they communicate with their eyes or something. I would like to see more happy faces. Also every time I order online and I get notified that my stuff is ready and I get to the place, it would not be ready. This has happened several times. read more

After I left my 1 star review for this place, the owner contacted me through yelp and apologized for my bad experience. I really respected that because it shows that this place actually cares about its customers. That's why I decided to give this place another chance and came back. The poke was about the same as last time. All of the fishes had nice textures but were a little bland. However, all of the ingredients looked and tasted pretty fresh. There was no bone in my fish which was really nice and there was no tear inducing gas. The only thing that I really didn't like this time was the rice, which surprised me because the rice here was good last time. This time, the rice was very clumpy and I got large chunks of rice all stuck together. I respect the owner of this business and I hope that this restaurant does well. My go-to poke place in Berkeley. After surveying the lands north and south of California and doing statistics of what's a good value, the results were: Poke Parlor is helluva lot cheaper than most places and gives you more bang for your buck, too. First off, unlike the wanna-be-gourmet poke spot in Emeryville's public market, this place doesn't overcharge. That's right, it doesn't cost an extra 50¢-$1.50 for every sauce or topping you want to rightfully add onto your individual poke bowl. And that's what's already winning me over. Plus, they're pretty generous with everything. So expect your bowl to be fully loaded and packed to where you'll feel full after unlike other poke places that cut costs on the customers. If you're lucky to sit inside, it'll be a nice ambience where it's pretty chill and you can enjoy your meal. If not, you can eat it just 5 minutes away on campus during the sunset where you can reflect and be happy that you've made the choice in eating at Poke Parlor--a good deal and a meal that will result in a happy and full stomach. read more

Alright so I initially fell in love with this place but just like 50% of the marriages out there, the love went downhill. Poke parlor, what the hell happened?! You used to be bomb ass hell. And now your sushi rice is all soft and mushy ass hell. The rice is such an essential part of a poke bowl! Yes the raw fish is also probably as essential but if the rice is all soft and mushy, my taste buds aren't really gonna care too much about the fish because all their attention is on the rice that's trying to make this dish into a porridge. Ya feel me? Also... did someone ever think of what's going to happen to the cold RAW fish that's being placed on top of a HOT MUSHY RICE? The hotness from the rice most likely will cook the fish on top and yikesss will that still be considered "fresh fish" at that point?? Something to think about. I for sure do every time I see the wave of steam hitting them raw fishes on the top. Now, I'm not changing my review solely based on a one time bad experience with the rice. Overall, my bowl tasted bland, and I could barely taste the ponzu sauce I got. The rice was also mushy and disappointing. I was also excited that they have mango as a topping choice, but my mangos were hard and sour. Sad that they don't offer the seaweed salad for free. It costs an extra $1 for the topping, so I didn't get it. At least the fish tasted fresh, and you won't get food poisoning...hopefully. This is my favorite poke place in Berkeley. The regular bowl is a huge portion, and for the price, its really good. I think this poke place gives you the most food compared to other poke places around Berkeley. They have a lot of variety and anything I could want in a poke place. I usually get sushi rice, but there are a ton of other base options, and you can do half/half. For the regular bowl, you can choose 3 protein options, (my go to is 2 scoops of salmon, and a scoop of whatever I'm feeling that day). If you have no idea what sauce would go with your bowl, ASK THEM! They're really nice and helpful. They have a lot of topping options. The seaweed salad costs extra though, which is weird because its usually free everywhere else. Everything tasted so fresh and yummy. The only con to my experience here is the huge glass that separates you from the people working there. Its hard to hear through sometimes, and I feel like I have to yell. If you want quantity and quality food, come here! Don't forget to get a stamp card, cuz you'll probably be coming often. read more

I went here once when it just opened and thought it was pretty decent. They gave a LOT of fish. I did note that they used a little too much sauce, and I vowed to hold off on writing a review until I went again and asked for less sauce because I thought Poke Parlor had potential. Large portions, cute shop, many ingredients. Sounds good, right? Well, I finally got around to going again, and man, what a disappointment. I feel a bit bad because I may have just gotten them on an off day, but I don't think I'll risk going again because the poke was pretty awful, at least when compared with surrounding poke places. The fish and other ingredients were SO COLD. It wasn't frozen, but the coldness was very jarring. I maybe could have excused the cold, but the rice was also so soggy that it sort of resembled congee in places. You would think that a poke place would have figured out the correct proportions of rice and water to put in the rice cooker. I did ask for less sauce this time, but even with less sauce the sauce was still somewhat overpowering and too strongly citrusy. If I'm convinced to go again and it's good, I'll update my review because I know some people really like this place, but I think for now I'll stick to simply bowl. read more

A few days ago, I was reminiscing upon my summer trip to Hawaii and found myself craving poke. Luckily, Poke Parlor was just a short walk from campus!!!! I came around 6:30 PM and there was no line. I was helped by Jasmine, who recommended their signature Salmon Supreme bowl to me. I got the regular size, which was very filling. It comes with a generous serving of fresh salmon and flavorful portions of crab salad and seaweed salad, atop warm sushi rice. The servers build your bowl right in front of you. Jasmine was very quick yet careful with my order, and asked throughout the process if I needed adjustments with any of the ingredients so I could have my bowl just the way I wanted.
