I've been going to Poke Salad Bar occasionally for a few years. The restaurant could be cleaner and better organized, but generally I've had a good experience. Sadly, I think last week's visit will be last. One star for the person who helped me who was very friendly and efficient. Also, it feels like a decent amount of food for the price. Unfortunately, three things occurred that prompted me to leave this review. First, a couple in front of me was ordering and it seemed like they were not as familiar with the process. They had questions and needed some guidance through choosing their ingredients. There also seemed to be a slight language barrier. I was the only only other customer in line and could hear that the employee (who was not the one who helped me) was getting more and more frustrated with them the longer it took to complete their order. They were asking reasonable questions and the restaurant was not busy, so I'm not sure where the attitude was coming from. Second, as I was choosing my bowl, I noticed that several items like crab and mango had upcharges added to them and chose not to include those items. When it came to toppings, I looked at "Avocado" and saw no upcharge price listed next to it. When I ordered it for my bowl, the employee said nothing about an additional charge. However, my bowl was rung up as an "avocado bowl" and was at least $1 more than the listed price. It seems like they were hiding that charge. I might have stayed and asked about the price difference, but didn't want to because of the third thing that happened. As I was waiting for my bowl to be finished, I saw a third employee preparing a wrapped to-go order. While packing it she COUGHED on the back of her hand, and then continued to pack the order without changing gloves or washing. Less than a minute later, she coughed again while standing over what looked like a box of chips, this time not bothering to cover her mouth at all. When they were emptying the trash bins, which were adjacent to the door, they visibly showed irritation when they had to pause for customers coming in the store. Top it off with seaweed salad, furikake, avocado, cucumbers, jalapenos, and wasabi and you've got yourself quiiiiiite the bowl! I ordered via Grubhub on Yelp and my order was ready in about 20 minutes. Parking in Old Town is kind of a pain, especially as outdoor dining has taken over some space in the street, but I got a metered spot around the block and use the Passport app to pay. Most likely because there were only 2 employees working. Despite the wait, the amount of fish we got was generous, along with the rest of the toppings. Walking in, it's a friendly atmosphere with people enjoying abnormally large portions. I've never seen more generous portions. I ordered for two people and ended up not being able to finish even one! I am extremely happy about these portions and it makes up for every time I've went to a subpar poke place. Just take my credit card at this point. My toppings were crabmeat, cucumbers, seaweed, jalapeno, cilantro, etc... For a small, you get two scoops so I chose spicy tuna (I barely ate it.) and the shrimp which I really liked. My sauce was the wasabi mayo. As for spiciness, I chose mild (I should have picked spicy, but my kids talked me out of it... I shouldn't have listened to them!!). I topped it off with EVERYTHING (masago, edemame, green onion, ginger, wasabi, sesame seed, furikake, and crunchy onion). Selection of drinks was the usual. The also sell macaron ice cream for $3.50. Got a free soup with my yelp check in!! All in all, I would return here. It was a filling meal. Plenty of places to sit. Some of the tables could use a good wipe down though.
