The decor has a charming, old-school Japanese feel, and the staff is incredibly warm, friendly, and attentive. If I were rating just the food, I'd probably give it a 3.5 or 4. The tonkatsu was just ok. Good enough, but nothing spectacular. However, the salmon sashimi was cut super thick and was a fantastic value. This was my first time eating year in more than 8 years. I was happy that they were able to accommodate our party of 8 for Sunday night dinner. We enjoyed our experience there because we did not feel rushed and the food came out in a timely order. I dislike when the appetizers come after the food, so it was nice to feel settled in and gauge how hungry we were before the entrees came out. On this particular occasion, we got a variety of dishes including some bento boxes, sushi rolls, some sashimi for me, and fried appetizers. I'm not usually a big fan of raw salmon based on a couple of negative experiences I've had at other restaurants, but I remember changing my mind after eating it at Makiyaki. My niece saw I was enjoying my food and even asked to try some of what I was having! It was a memorable moment for her as she had never eaten raw fish. She felt particularly proud of herself as a reformed picky eater. Things I like about this place is that parking is right in front. If you're not able to find it right away, there's plenty around the block or across the street at Safeway. The place is small and cozy but was able to accommodate our medium-sized group after the weekend dinner rush. Our server checked on us an adequate amount of times. We didn't feel ignored, but also not suffocated /rushed, and our food came out on time. They have some alcoholic beverages, soda, and hot tea. I love the customer service here. They're always so welcome always greeting us very attentive. Their rolls here are so fresh. The parking lot can get a little bit crazy because of the neighboring businesses so be mindful if you go on a weekend or an evening. Always wanted to try, now that I have, I'm not impressed. 1st the salad that came with the meal were old and turning brown. We came here on a Monday night at 6:45pm and it wasn't that busy. There's only few tables inside so this place is probably packed on the weekends. I ordered the Hamachi Kama dinner entree. I love Hamachi Kama, and was surprised to see it as a dinner entree. A lot of places that have Hamachi Kama serve it as an appetizer and it's usually around $13-16. So I was surprised to see it for $14. My meal included miso soup, salad, and rice. I also ordered spicy tuna roll for my side. The Hamachi Kama was cooked perfectly and the skin was crispy. It also came with a vinegar based sweet soy dipping sauce which I liked a lot. My spicy tuna was delicious as well and not dry and stringy like some places. The customer service was excellent and they kept checking on us and refilling our water. I can't wait to come back. read more

Okay, I love it here. I work nearby and haven't tried many restaurants in the area. My husband and I were gonna get boba and decided to try it out here. Everything is delicious. The salad dressing is light, and the teriyaki sauce was so good. The fish was really fresh and the chicken I ordered was not chewy at all. We ordered a few sushi rolls and they were also delicious! I love that the tempura doesn't have too much batter on it. You know what I mean lol. Everything was so good we came back again for lunch the next day with the kids. As soon as I got in my car, it smelled like a dumpster. These were def not fresh and they looked like the packaged type from a grocery store. Didn't even try and just threw them away. Sunomono: 10/10 fresh and yummy cucumber in a peanut oil and lemon dressing. Veg tempura: 3/10 the batter was too light. I've gotten packaged veg tempura before and it's gone in 2.5 seconds. Parking can be a real hassle depending on time of day but lunch time (before 4pm) was totally fine. The restaurant itself was small like most others in this plaza. The place looks clean otherwise with plenty of decoration to make the ambiance enjoyable. I was greeted by the host who let me sit at any available seat and gave me a menu with plenty of food options. They serve bento boxes and a large selection of sushi rolls. There were a lot of vegetarian options as well such as tempura vegetables or sushi without any fish (like avocado rolls). I got a bento box with beef teriyaki, tempura, and a California roll and it was delicious and filling. The food came out very quickly as well. The server also checked up on me frequently which I appreciate. All in all, this place is decent and I would probably go here for something casual with a few friends or just lunch by myself. After playing tennis we got hungry. My friend suggested this restaurant since he's eaten here before. I'm very picky when it comes to Japanese food especially sashimi. Coming here from the Peninsula. I was intending to eat at another restaurant in the same plaza, but they were closed and coming here was by chance. Upon entry, a sign at the front informed you that your temperature would be taken before being seated, however since it was a weekday visit and only 2 other tables were occupied, our temperature was taken after we were seated. There were clear plastic partitions separating the tables and the staff was masked and wearing gloves. All COVID-19 protocols were in place and observed. It was a simple lunch menu of bento box combinations, teriyaki, tempura, katsu and donburi (rice bowls), a short list of assorted sushi. I don't recall seeing ramen listed on the menu. We opted for the katsu-don and tempura-don. Our lunch was served with miso soup and a small salad. The miso soup tasted very good, nice umami flavor, not watered down or too salty. Both our rice bowls were very good, my tempura was nicely prepared, it was crisp and not over battered or greasy. Overall, our lunch was enjoyable and reasonably priced.
