This place was my introduction to Ramen and has me coming back over and over. Very solid ramen, rich pork broth good spice, simple menu, you can easily add and remove items you want or don't. I always go extra spicy with extra flake and oil to go, black garlic for the Garlic lovers out there. i always throw in their spam masubi on the side. The location is in my neck of the woods, i always frequent the greenhouse shopping center so this works great. Parking gets a little tight at lunch time but is fine in the evenings. its a small cool spot with few tables but that translates to great attentive service. My only critique would be to add MORE mushroom options. but other than that, this is my go-to ramen spot. read more

Nasty traffic on our way back from Six Flags Discovery Kingdom so we decided to make a stop for dinner. Craving for ramen, we found Ramen101 and decided to give this place a try. Super small place in a shopping plaza area, however, clean and quiet. Not crowded during the weeknight. You can eat here or can do take out; I saw folks doing Uber/DoorDash pick up as well. They also have self-serve water. We ordered: Miso Ramen- Comes with bamboos, 2 slices of chashu pork, mushrooms. Broth is so good, not too salty. (I've had ones where too much miso and too salty!) Chashu had light flavor and not too much fat. Yum. 5/5 Veggie Ramen- Comes with tofu, mushrooms, bamboos, corn, and bean sprouts. I added an egg because I gotta have an egg in my noodle soup! Great ramen place located in the Greenhouse shopping center.My fav is the Black garlic ramen, but the Spicy Chicken Ramen is also good. You can order the level of spiciness you like also, from "no spice" to "extra spicy" to suit your preference. The Black Garlic broth has a rich flavor and loaded with noodles, sliced pork, soft boiled egg, bean sprouts corn and more. I love that they serve the noodles separate from the broth in their to-go orders so the noodles don't get soggy on the way home. It's hot and fresh when you arrive back at your destination. Ok. So this review is going to be a little schizophrenic. I actually annoyed the ramen here. I think it was tasty and fresh. The Ramen has a lot of good toppings/ingredients including bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and a generous amount of green onions. My husband, however, did not enjoy the food. He is a ramen snob, and he rightfully pointed out that the noodles were overcooked. They should have a bouncier or al dente texture. He also found the miso broth to be very light in flavor. We both liked the Chicken Karaage. The service was efficient, if a little rushed. The place has a nice dinning area, that seem spacious in spite of the smaller size of the restaurant. Had dinner here a few weeks ago, came in on a Sunday night about 6pm. It was pretty empty, with 2 tables. We order Grilled Whole Squid, Gyoza, Black Garlic Ramen and Chicken Ramen. The squid was chewy , didn't taste fresh. The gyoza was a little dried and no flavor. The black garlic ramen was okay and lack flavor as well and same for the chicken ramen. Let me first start by saying that I'm already not the hugest ramen fan (the broth is generally too heavy for me!) or a ramen snob whatsoever, but will eat it whenever others want to. However, I generally get the same exact item wherever I go, so I'd say I have a pretty long list of places to compare my bowl of ramen to. I came on a rainy day with three other friends & we all ordered different items -- I the Black Garlic Ramen + the Chashu bowl. From appearances, the price point (around $16 for the ramen?) didn't seem crazy since it was comparable to other places that I have been to. You are able to choose the spiciness and I believe they also provide extra hot chili oil / powder upon request! This is an order and pay before choosing a place to sit down kind of place -- but they do bring you your food. There is a bathroom for customers + the workers are very nice as well! I didn't take any photos, but the ramen looked good, until I dug in. The noodles are akin to Chinese Fast Food Chow/Lo mein and had zero bite to them while the soup (which I ordered Spicy) had no flavor whatsoever. My partner and I tried each others soups (he got Tonkatsu/Mild spice) but they tasted exactly the same. The egg was probably the best part because it was salty -- albeit a little overcooked! I wouldn't even really say the chashu bowl was much better as for the price point ($8.95?) you're essentially paying for a gigantic bowl of rice with tiny pieces of pork and corn. read more

It was a cool day and we were craving Ramen. The nearest one to where we were was in San Leandro and we decided to stop by here. It's small store front, tables lining the walls with enough room in between them to not feel like you're right next to the other tables. There's also an option to dine outside if you're more comfortable with that. It's one of those places where you order at the front register and sit wherever you choose. We opted for chicken karage and whole grilled squid and two tonkatsu ramen. Our ramens came out in less than 5mins of ordering and it arrived very hot! Our appetizers followed after since those needed more time to cook. The karage was crispy and not oily and were really good portioned. Enough for 2.5 bites. The squid was cooked to perfection, however it was doused with sauce. I would've preferred having the sauce on the side. The ramen was the best part. The broth was thick and creamy and full of flavor. You can tell it was mixed well and not just sitting in a pot waiting to be transferred into a bowl. However I ordered some ramen through DoorDash last night and realized after it had arrived that they added on three charges for different add one that I had not ordered and had not received. So essentially my money was stolen from me. When I called Ramen 101 to tell them about the issue this morning I was told it wasn't not their issue and that I would need to contact door dashes. But the charges were from Ramen 101. When I asked if I could speak to a manager I was told he was not in at the moment, he had no idea when the manager would be in and that I could not have his number to contact him. I left my number with the employee that answered the phone and requested a call back. I will be shocked if I get a call back. First time here and I've tried more than a few ramen spots before and this is disappointing to me. Let's talk about the flavor... it's very bland. I asked for xxtra spicy and it tasted just like Sichuan that's it. I could not enjoy it. All I was able to enjoy was the gyoza but even the sauce packet they give was not very tasty for the usual "gyoza sauce". The way it tasted threw me off. But I do greatly appreciate the customer service from the cashier. He does his best to help his customers needs. He even went next door to grab a cup of ice for the customer and I'm assuming they don't have ice in store to give to their customer. Very kind of him. Thank you sir. read more

Moms, cuzzo and I spent the day bargain hunting and as most shopping sessions go, it can build up an appetite! I wasn't hungry enough for a meal, so I thought a couple of apps would suffice. Cuzzo agreed so we decided to share an order of chicken karaage and spam musubi. Mom, however, needed more than just apps so she went for a black garlic ramen. CHICKEN KARAAGE: My first impression after the first bite was that the batter was a little grainy. The chicken was cooked tender but lacked some flavor. I felt they were under seasoned. The dip, however, is a saving grace. Without it, it tasted like just plain breaded chicken. SPAM MUSUBI: The spam slices were cooked perfect. There was also a hint of (teriyaki/?) sauce which helped elevate the flavor. The only thing I would change with this is to cut down the rice in half. BLACK GARLIC RAMEN: Not my grub, but I was curious, so I took a couple of sips of the broth - and it wasn't bad at all. It had depth and flavor. The noodles were also cooked well. I would have preferred a stronger garlic flavor, though! (But maybe because I'm just a garlic fiend!) It was also plenty, so the bowl could actually serve two peeps! FOOD: 3. The current rating as of writing this review is 3.7 stars. I'd agree with that; the prices are pretty high and the portions are small. The service is fine and the restaurant has a decent vibe, but the food is bland and lacking in taste. I paid $16, $17.79 with taxes for a black garlic ramen. The food came out fast. Immediately I went to try the noodles, and I was so disappointed I immediately went to write this review. The noodles are so over cooked they taste like soggy shin ramen noodles left in soup for 30 minutes. In other words, they're bland and have zero taste and texture. A good soup can easily be ruined by bad noodles and this was unfortunately what happened for me. The cha siu isn't two bad, but it's only 2 pieces. It tastes musty. The tea egg is over cooked and tastes very simply marinated. The broth has zero flavor. It tastes like I added soy sauce to water and boiled it and called it a day. There's too much garlic so it doesn't even taste salty, it tastes weirdly bland. Overall this place would be fine if you were really hungry and craving ramen. The place that's close to here (Aoi Terriyaki Ramen) tastes much better and offers better portions. I will not be coming back here again. What made this absolute for me was the horrible noodles. Someone pointed out that their noodles were bad already, and I took the risk and was disappointed as they were. Woe is me. We also got an Unagi bowl- which was standard- honestly all unagi tastes the same everywhere. Their ramen has opens for different levels of spiciness. I opted for the Medium Spicy Black Garlic Signature Ramen. Chewy noodles, thin and juicy pork belly slices, and a decent broth. I enjoyed the tons of crispy fried garlic slivers and corn mixed into the broth. For appetizers, they seem to have mostly deep-fried items. We opted for the spicy cucumber salad, a common side dish in Sichuan restaurants. Cool and refreshing with a spicy kick. Overall solid ramen place, so 4 stars.
