Shoyu ahi poke. Not good all you taste is shoyu
    Wesley T.

Been a while since the last time I dined here, but my friend said that this is where she wanted to eat. She was in awe of the amount of items on the menu. Finally she opted for one of the specials, miso butterfish plate at $23. I wasn't as hungry so I bought a half pound of ahi shoyu poke. My friend raved about the butterfish, good choice on her part. I didn't care for the poke. All I tasted was a strong shoyu flavor, very disappointing given the price of fresh ahi poke these days. Not sure if I'll come back, it is a little pricey for guys on fixed incomes. I guess I need to get used to the new norm in dining prices.

    Crawfish and Shrimp Gumbo
    Justin R.

Poke Stop is a beautiful and wonderfully put together establishment. The service was to be expected for what I ordered. I'm sure not that many people order fried shrimp by themselves, but I did. They were not what I expected. I was highly pleased with how they turned out. They were nice and crispy with a light tempura batter (eat them while they are hot so they don't get soggy). What really stood out was their daily special. I ordered a "Fried Oyster Poboy" combo (came with fries and a drink). There was a sauce on it that may have been their version of remoulade. It was a little sweet for my palate but still very flavorful. Back to the Thursday Specials offerings: I was pretty surprised to see Crawfish and Chicken Gumbo on the special list. I was very excited and skeptical at the same time. Most of my reviews are me bashing dishes that have Creole, Cajun, and Louisiana in the title. With that said, Gumbo is a staple where I come from. It's easy to mess up and not many people agree on what's in it (on any given day). I tasted the gumbo direct from the establishment. I'm not going to bash the Gumbo. This gumbo was light of flavor and had a layer of grease on top. The rice that came with it was separate. It's all good. My recommendation is that you take the gumbo gravy (wasn't really roux) and scoop it out and put it on the rice. Put it all on there. I had a little butter in my fridge so I put a little of that on it with some Cajun seasoning (Slap ya Mamma) and salt. 10/10 for my preference. I was actually grateful it came under-seasoned. My overall experience was 8.5 out of 10. I'm very impressed with this place. This revived motivation to eat in Mililani.

    Dry chicken

Came with my husband to poke stop to get a Taegu chicken plate for him. Haven't been here in a year when it was good and friendly staff or maybe my luck today wasn't a good day for them 240pm. The chicken was plain no flavor not even at least a drizzle of Taegu sauce more like one splash, my husband was so hungry typical guy just eat. All I gotta say is was dry no sauce cannot even taste any sauce. Will never come over here again and definitely going tell my friends and family on this side no eat here.

Been to this location for many years. I love the poke and lunch plates at this family owned business. Renowned Chef Elmer Guzman, who was a graduate of the KCC culinary program knows how to create some awesome local style plates at a modest price in this casual place. I love their poke and their creamy salmon is among my favorites. Today, I got the Executive Chef plate. It was loaded with a combination of Korean style bone-in kalbi, garlic shrimp, garlic Island fish & your choice of poke. I opted my plate with creamy salmon poke, white rice and potato salad. It's da bomb! Taste so ono and I had a hard time finishing it all- but I managed to- hehe! The service was great from ordering to leaving. I dined in and my meal was served on real plates, water cup with ice, and silverware. My meal came out quickly but I did come at a slow time. There are signs posted that say "Fresh Food isn't Fast- Mahalo for your Patience" so it might be a good idea to phone order ahead of time. The place was very clean. There's a tub to place your used dishes in. There's a long table to sit on as well as counter space to eat. The friendly staff said "Thank you!" when I was leaving. Of course I'll be back!

I really do love it here! Was chatting with a friend about this place, so I decided to stop for dinner. I got the executive plate with Kapakahi poke, Sous Chef plate with Kapakahi poke, salmon skins, spicy garlic tater tots, and a half pound of smoked ahi belly. I am never disappointed when I eat here! Even the girl that works here remembered me, and is always so friendly. 10/10 recommended if you're in the area!

Craving poke but can't decide where to stop since there's a ton of places on the island? Look no further. You came to the right spot. Not only was this place featured on Diner, Drive Ins and Dive, it was by far one of the best experiences I have had at an establishment that made it to the big screens. The auntie that took our orders was soooo patient. I literally took so long to decide what I want because the choices were incredible. She even gave us samples. Talk about choice paralysis. Anyway, I ended up getting the garlic ahi w masago poke bowl and the rice was cooked to perfection. I am craving it right now as I'm writing this. They also have other choices if you're not into raw fish such as burgers, gumbo, etc. I live about 35 mins away but I would absolutely make the drive out to Mililani just for this poke and the service. 10/10 all around!!!!

Fish was good , had plenty seating , service was great. The pistachio and ricotta cake was so good!! The place is original with a lot of artwork.

Shoyu poke bowl and Cali poke bowls in question from previous Yelp reviewer.
    Branden L.

Just saw a review from Christina F. of Moanalua about the ahi in her shoyu poke being "black" and Cali poke bowl ALSO being "black". Here is a picture of the actual poke bowls in question. The fish looks JUST FINE. As a matter of fact, I just ate some from BOTH bowls and the poke was AWESOME. Some people are just unhappy with their lives and find the need to take out their unhappiness out on other people. It makes them feel good about the issues that they are having in their own lives, giving them a sense of control in the chicken shit lives that they lead. To Christina F. of Moanalua: just stay home and save yourself some heartache and pocket your attention-seeking behavior for people who actually care. Your useless Yelp reviews, while helping you to feel like you have some sense of control in your insignificant life, mean nothing to people who actually know what they are talking about about. Poke Stop has awesome food. I eat here ALL THE TIME. Never got sick once. Nothing but a full belly of top quality poke. 5-stars all day, every day.

    Poke

Flavor can be hit or miss but fish is usually fresh. Come here often to buy poke and will eat the next day for lunch. Bought this last night and today it's pretty brown like it's at least 3 days old, full of sugi, and scraps of fish.

Laulau pleasantly surprised me as this was my first foray to Waipahu Highway Inn. Every time I got laulau at the Kakaako location the meaty (non fatty) parts of the pork was dry; this one was moist throughout, even in the meaty parts. Poi was good, especially mixed with the lomi salmon. Mom's squid luau was nice, came out hot, though it was a little sweet for her taste. The smoked meat was also a little sweet, though we know that's how they prepare it at H.I. Nice mix of smoky and sweet with the meat and onions. Finished with the haupia, which is standard and always dependable there. Like the old plantation feel and the old photographs of Waipahu all over the place, right down to the palaka decor. Every time I return I try to eat at H.I.

Authentic Hawaiian food done right!…read more This place is known for their catering. You'll find their food at weddings and 1st birthday parties. But, they also have locations where you can dine in or takeout. I've had takeout as well as catered food from here a couple of times. I love that their food is a complete meal and comes with haupia (coconut dessert). Most recently I tried their tasting plate which came with a little bit of everything: chicken long rice, lomi salmon, squid luau, kalua pork, poi, pork laulau, and okinawan sweet potato. Definitely good for sharing as well. I shared with my daughter. Everything was so flavorful and had lots of variety. The squid luau is sweet because it's made with coconut milk, the kalua pig and laulau are salty, the poi was not sour and went well with the lomi salmon, the sweet potato also added sweetness. It all worked so well together. For dessert, we got the Sweet Potato Haupia Shortbread. Definitely a sweet and savory combo. The potato isn't too sweet, the buttery shortbread crust and the coconut haupia. Definitely a local fave. Overall, great place to try Hawaiian food with tons of parking and usually not crowded. A must try!

4 stars for Mililani Restaurant!…read more The food was cooked really well, but everything needed salt, so the flavors never got to shine the way they could have. Which is honestly a bummer because if they had seasoned Bill's Fish & Chips... dude... it would've easily been the best we've ever had! The other day, my family stopped by Mililani Restaurant after my son recommend the fish & chips. Since I'm a sucker for variety - and I hadn't eaten here in about 20 years - I also ordered the Mini Fried Saimin and Mini Korean Chicken. I love seeing each restaurant's take on these local favorites. Bill's Fish & Chips: WOW. The full order is HUGE! You get three giant pieces of cod over a mountain of shoestring fries. The fish was cooked beautifully - super crispy on the outside while staying moist and flaky inside. But oh Lord... it needed salt! The fries had a great crisp too, although they did have that darker, old-oil flavor that was a little hard to ignore. Since I'm a foodie who likes to come prepared, I happened to have lemon wedges with me lol!... and man, did that take the fish to another level. Hey, don't judge! (I'm pretty sure my family was embarrassed... but ask me if I care. Hahaha! Jk... kinda.) We all agreed that if they had simply salted the fish right out of the fryer, this would've easily been a 5 star dish. Mini Fried Saimin: Can we talk about that portion size for a mini?! Super generous! Unfortunately, this one also needed more seasoning, and the oil flavor came thru more than the other ingredients. I know it's fried, so some oil flavor is expected, but it kinda overpowered everything else. A little more shoyu would've gone a long way. Since fried saimin is usually one of my favorite things to order (local girl at heart!), I'd give this one about 3 stars. Mini Korean Chicken: The sauce was delicious and reminded me of Sugoi's Garlic Chicken. The only downside was that the chicken itself wasn't hot. It tasted like it may have been cooked earlier and then portioned out for my plate. The service was friendly, helpful with recommendations, and they packed everything securely. Our order was accurate, and the prices felt fair for the amount of food you get. They definitely have a great variety for a neighborhood plate lunch spot. Would we make the drive all the way from Ewa Beach just for this? Probably not. But if we're already in the area, we'd absolutely stop by again. One last heads up... if you're planning to dine in, be prepared to leave smelling like the fryer. The ventilation could definitely use some help.. we all went straight to the shower when we got home!
