I can't believe it took this long for a poke store to finally open in Stamford. No complaints from me though; it saves me the trip into NYC or neighboring towns like Norwalk when the cravings hit hard! Pokemoto is located in central downtown with ample metered parking around the surrounding streets. The interior is clean, staff is friendly, and the food speaks for itself. There's nothing mind blowing on the menu, but the quality is comparable to anything I'd get in New York. The fish tastes fresh and the portion size appears reasonable in terms of pricing (I believe small is 2 protein choices for $11 and large is 3 protein choices for around $13-$14). They have pre made combinations for your convenience, or you can be dare devil and customize your own bowl/burrito with mostly unlimited toppings (except things like avocado where there's a slight surcharge... aka the Asian version of Chipotle). I tend to take creative liberty (aka it should be illegal how much stuff I ask for them to mix in the bowl) and am never let down. You truly can't go wrong with the flavor profiles :) read more

He totally lied to us and said that the card machine doesn't work, while the other girl worker said it does work. He was being sketchy, I knew something was up. She left and he pretended to work the card machine, then said we have to pay cash. He made up some perfectly even number. We paid. The dude did not open any registers, he ducked down and put the cash on the low shelf and literally while squatted down fished his pocket for a change. This place is way to sketch for my taste. Tasty poke in a somewhat unusual format. Think of this place as being like Subway or Chop't for poke. You get a bowl, choose your rice, and then pick toppings. The ingredients are fresh and tasty and I've found that the large size is enough for two meals (lunch and dinner). The sauces go well with the rice, fish, and other toppings and also allow you to vary the palate of the dish (add a Japanese-style sauce to make it taste kind of like Japanese food; add a Thai-style sauce and cilantro for a similar Thai effect; etc.). There are pre-made options, but I have yet to try them. Given that the large size makes two meals, the price is reasonable. I've been here a couple times now, and my instinct is that I'll keep coming back. read more

Worse place EVER. They charged me for 6 bowls and only gave me 2. Then they REFUSED to refund me or give me a credit for what they owed. Every single time I have called they tell me to leave my name and number, which I do, and someone will call me back. I've done this 4 separate times with them. No one has EVER called me back. Two things to watch out for: 1) if you are allergic / don't like a particular food and ask for it to be omitted from your order, check before leaving. I'm gluten free and asked for no wontons. Got home to find TONS of wontons in my food. 2) They can be very *generous* with the sauce. That may be a positive for some. Personally, I don't like my food drowned in sauce. This place use to be great. We recent got dinner from there, two rice bows and a small miso soup totaling $30. Both rice bowls were under dressed rendering them completely tasteless. My sesame chicken rice bowl was missing ingredients because they were out, an topped with brown avocado (shown in the picture). The miso soup was room temperature and only half full. We could go back to complain because it was late and too far to drive. Don't waste your time or money. read more

However, staff is not the most engaging and are not too familiar with the ingredients (probably because it's a new location?). I'm a loyal customer of the Norwalk location and prefer it over this one- Their greens, specially their radish is never as fresh and looks like it's being sitting for a few days. We were looking forward to trying this place. We ordered Hawaiian, Miso Salmon and the chicken special bowls. The Hawaiian and Miso Salmon were inedible. The fish was very bad quality / not sushi grade - it had a fishy taste and a chewy texture which made me question whether it was safe to eat. The fish was also served very warm, which is the opposite of what I would expect for raw fish... I did not bother trying the chicken bowl because it looked very unappetizing. I decided to create a bowl with the ahi tuna, white sushi rice, organic togu, cucumber, mangoes, sesame ginger sauce with roasted cashews and tempura flakes. And I also got a small Miso Soup on the side. Delivery Came On Time which was nice. In the bag there was no utensils which was kinda sad. I had to look for some at my job. Overall The rice, tofu, mix-ins, flavor of sauce and crunch were on point and Very tasty and Fresh Tasting as well. As for the Ahi Tuna I was taken back by surprise... the fish did not taste fresh at all. You could distinctly taste a very bold fishy taste. I've worked in a fish market before and have ate fresh tuna before and know it shouldn't taste like this.. I tried another piece to double check and it was just as bad. I had to throw it out. :/ I decided to be hopeful and try the Miso Soup. The soup..was completely cold. Also a surprise to me because the delivery driver brought the food on good time. Both the tuna and the salmon tasted super fresh, and you could add as many of the mix-ins/toppings as you wanted for no additional charge (avocado is the only upcharge, I believe, though they do say you can only get one scoop-worth of each topping/mix-in). Tons of sauce options (most of which are vegan, if that's your thing) and the worker offered to let me sample the different sauces before I decided. Inside decor was very bright and looked very clean. Overall, I thought it was a really great value for $10, and definitely will make this a go-to for a quick, healthy meal. read more
