Liked being able to choose between white and brown rice! Pretty good different preset bowls to choose from. Can add a number of different toppings for free which is pretty awesome. I've been here 5/6 times now. I got a bowl the first time but have always got a roll the other times -- it distributes the toppings better ! The best thing about pokeworks is the range of toppings/sauces -the crab salad is really good. Also make sure to get the masago (and ginger and seaweed on the side if you get a roll). Don't miss out on the crunchy stuff either - makes the roll/bowl exponentially better. The crunchy onion and garlic are delicious. Cons : the service is so so and the line moves at variable speed. The fish is not nearly as fresh as at manoa and the scoops are also much smaller. Don't waste your money on the 'large' (its three scoops of fish vs two for the regular but honestly is only a couple more pieces of fish) but definitely add the avocado. read more

So how long has poke existed and why am I only just learning about it? This is only the second poke place I've been to, but I'm starting to get a sense of how to judge them. Fresh ingredients, check. This one gives you two protein choices for the small size, three for the large. There are also some good options for toppings, like shiso, mango, and tobiko. Never having had the pleasure of sampling poké before, this was my introductory experience and I liked this place a lot! Good flavors and fresh ingredients, you can customize your order to pretty much however you want it -- a little or a lot of sauce, various trimmings, substitutions, etc.; the staff are all very accommodating and friendly. I had the regular-sized Hawaiian Classic bowl and it was yummy, not too heavy but nice and filling. I found that the portions are also generous, the price was a little on the higher side ($10.95 for a regular size) but could be expected given that you're essentially buying sushi and fresh ingredients. The décor was clean, modern and cheerful which I liked. The line wasn't bad at all when I went at 1pm, and it's very conveniently located so I'll definitely be back! read more

My first time trying poke, and WOW this was good. It's like a tastier Hawaiian version of Chipotle...and to me, it also seems Asian-inspired. My friend and both made our own regular size bowls and went ham on the toppings. The people working there were friendly and nice and accommodated all of our requests. Even though the portion size is smaller than the huge burrito bowls at Chipotle and other places, I was comfortably full after my bowl without feeling ridiculously stuffed. We went during a downpour, but the place was still full. I think that's a testament to how popular and yummy it is! The price comes out to about ~$12 per person. Definitely worth it. I love pokeworks. I had pokeworks in New York and I'm so glad there is one closer now. As a heads up, in my opinion it tastes best when eaten asap - just like sushi. Very happy that i don't have to drive 4 hrs to NY to get pokeworks!! i live south of boston, but i'd take a 35 min drive over a 4 hr drive anydayyy. parking is a little difficult but then again we went last night during dinner time (saturday around 720pm) so the area of davis square was busy and packed. all of the public parking lots around the area were already full, and there was no chance of street parking. after driving around for about 20 min i was able to grab a spot in the public parking lot by rite aid. the pokeworks here is bigger than the pokeworks in NY, which allows for more seating but not by much. NY has about 6 bar top seats, davis square location has two tables, about 8 seats per table and the bar top table, but no seats for that yet. (their waiting for them to come in) *they also have a bathroom in the back. the line moved somewhat slow, but it wasn't that bad. we got inside at like 755/8, did our builds, and paid for our food at around 830. we got our food to go because there was absolutely no chance of getting a seat inside. if you've never been to a pokeworks, the best was one can describe it, is that it's the chipotle of sushi bowls/burritos. you custom make your poke burrito or poke bowl starting with the rice. how much protein you want and what you want (2 choices- 10.95 / 3 choices - 13.50). then you chose your mix ins like cucumber, mango, seaweed, cilantro, kale, opinions, etc. then you choose your sauce and your toppings like sesame seeds, wonton crisps, onion crisps, etc. boyfriend and i got a sushi burrito to share and our own pokebowls. we ate the sushi burrito in my car which was delicious. they don't pack it with rice, which i like. we got home and ate our pokebowls and they were amazing. the staff was very friendly and patient. granted they're probably masters at dealing with the madness from day 1. the line kept getting longer and not once did any of the staff members rush their customers or look flustered. definitely will be back! as many have mentioned they have limited hours right now. i believe it's 5-10pm. eventually when the hype of the new store opening dies down, they'll set regular, extended , store hours. read more

I know this is a chain but I have to say this is some of the best poke I've had in Boston. It's seriously so good!! I love that you can build your own bowl or choose from their combos. I'm SO glad we finally have Poke in Boston! This place is like Chipotle, but with sushi. You start in the beginning of the line and choose a Bowl, Burrito, or Salad. You choose protein, and then you go down the line and choose your toppings. Everything is pretty light/healthy. During their soft opening, they're only open from 5pm-10pm I think. We got there a little bit before 5pm and there was already short line forming. Right at 5pm the line was pretty much out the door. The place itself is really spacious, but they definitely do not have enough chairs/tables to accommodate the crowd. $10.50 for a Regular sized bowl and $13 I think for a large. I don't think there's a size difference between them at all. You just get an extra scoop of fish with the Large, which I think is kind of lame. I got a brown rice bowl with tuna and salmon with umami shoyu, and pretty much tried every topping. It seems like they give you really small scoops of everything, but I assure you that it's actually a very decent amount of food. I LOVE all the toppings that they have. And their fish is in pretty big chunks. The only complain is that the brown rice I had was kinda mushy...they probably over cooked it. They have very limited fish options here. And it's weird that they don't even have their "Classic" sauce... It's not as great as some of the poke places I've had in California, but I'm glad poke is finally coming to the Boston area! read more

But still it is somewhat dirty and a ridiculous seating arrangement of having to share long tables with others, I.e. narrow cramped aisle to get a seat. No apology, no offer of a future discount, just a "Why don't you just drop dead," message. This was my first "make your own Poke bowl" experience, and I have to say I enjoyed it! The fish tastes fresh (I've had the salmon and the tuna) and the flavors really come together to make a satisfying experience. It's no sushi - but if you're craving something like sushi (raw fish and rice) but don't want to drop a ton of money to feel full (the bowls are ~$11-15 - more than Chipotle but less than an equivalent amount of sushi), this is a decent option to fill your belly! Two things to note: 1) Eat the bowl the way it's meant to be eaten - with fish and rice. A couple times now I've tried to be "healthy" by getting greens instead of rice and it's really not the same and definitely not as good. 2) Stick with the bowl. The first time I came here, I got the poke burrito style. And while I actually found this to be quite tasty, the filling was definitely way too much and it was falling apart everywhere. The bowl has the same great flavors and is a far less messy experience. There are a few Poke places around here that I still haven't tried, but I'm glad to have found at least one place I like! read more

My wife and I absolutely love this place because 1) the prices are very reasonable 2) the ingredients are all very tasty, and 3) where the add ons are concerned, they really pile it on for you, so for 15 dollars, you can get a very serious amount of Pokebowl. It's not just the portions though, they use really fresh ingredients and when you choose a sauce to mix in with it, it really livens up the flavors. We've tried the other Poke places in the area, but it seems that Pokeworks is our goto when we are in the mood for a big tasty bowl of Poke. read more

What an awesome spot! We came into DAVIS to meet up with a friend and had a great time a Pokéworks. They're a build-your-own bowl/burrito type of place, so as long as you like the poké flavors you'll find something you like here. I'm pretty sure they have all-cooked variations too, but I can't vouch for their tastiness. :) I love all their different veggie mixes and the sauce options. I had the tuna and spicy salmon with almost every veggie they had and everything was super fresh. The sauces are delicious, too, but make sure to tell them to go light if you don't want to taste only the sauce. I think they're a little bit expensive, and you don't get that much more food with the large. Also, skip the miso - it's a bit bland. read more

I was new to this style of cuisine, but a coworker recommended Pokéworks so I went to try it out. I've been back something like 6 times in the last month. My girlfriend and I are properly addicted. (Maybe I should worry about mercury poisoning.) I always get the rice bowl with some kind of tuna. The tuna is so soft and delicious. Every sauce is wonderful. And every combination of mixins is good as well. But when in doubt you can safely go by the pre-made options on the menu. Making a custom bowl is more of an advanced maneuver so slow down kid. One downside: the line moves so slow. I would advise staying away at prime time or if you're walking by and see a big line. read more

I finally had the opportunity to try Pokeworks!! I wanted to wait a couple months after their opening to avoid that crazy line out the door. The regular size bowls consist of 2 protein options, and a large allows you to have 3. The bowls are definitely more on the pricey side, but they are quite generous with their portions, so in a way, it makes up for it. They offer mix-ins, toppings, flavor, and crunch! My boyfriend and I got similar bowls because we basically have the same taste. We each ordered a large bowl with 3 proteins (salmon, ahi tuna, and more tuna!!), along with sushi rice and a salad. We had the kale, cucumber, diced mango, and orange slices for our mix-ins. For our sauces (the "flavor"), we asked for Umami Shoyu and Sriracha Aioli. Our toppings were crab salad, green onion, masago (fish eggs), and seaweed salad. And FINALLY, we added some garlic and onion crisps for that extra CRUNCH! As you can see, we filled our bowls to the very top! The only thing I wish they had was EEL! I like that Love Art Sushi offers eel as a protein option. Nevertheless, if I had to choose between Love Art Sushi and Pokeworks, I'd give my vote to Pokeworks because of their excellent quality and variety of options. okay so i went to this place twice so far. First time i got the salmon with shrimps, regular bowl. The second time I got tuna with scallops and a miso soup. My first time tried their salmon, it was surprisingly sour. I get it they added lemon to get rid of the fishy smell, I would do the same. Then i tried the shrimp, it was also sour. So i assume all their proteins are sour. My second time there, when i tried the tuna and the scallop, it was also sour as well. So my prediction was right. Their bowl was alright. (It comes with regular and large) I got the regular first and the second time. However their miso soup taste like water... Maybe because their bowl flavor were too strong? I dont know but i woundt recommend and order their miso soup again. They also have "Burrito" at least that's what they called it. But what it actually is, is Sushi roll... They put rice and seaweed on it then throw the stuff you want on it and roll it like a sushi roll. I saw someone order that while i was in line. Overall it was an ok place. Out of all the poke spots in Mass, I love pokeworks the best. With the numerous options to choose from you can personalize however you like. In addition to this they give fairly good portions which is greatly appreciated. The only thing I don't love is some of the workers attitude towards the customers. I understand working with customers can be rough at times but not every customer is a difficult one. Other than that the food is good. I like it. The customer service isnt gonna keep me away from this place but I hope they work on that a bit more if anything. read more

As you can see from my prior review (which apparently got replaced by this one), this place was an absolutely horror show of bad management for quite a while. Then a few months ago, they promoted one of their most competent workers--Tyler--to be manager. The turnaround was rapid and noticeable. He really knows his stuff. Under his stewardship, this location finally started thriving. So thanks to Tyler, the service has really picked up and they have their act together. Food-wise, Pokeworks has good, quality food for reasonable prices. The ingredients are always fresh. You can order from several pre-designed options, or you can build your own. I generally go for a salad base, three scoops of protein, and load up on the vegetables. They have both raw (Tuna, salmon) and cooked (tofu, shrimp, scallops) protein. The toppings are numerous and range from crab salad to onion crisps to fish eggs. You can have as many toppings as you want included in the basic price. The sauces are flavorful. There are about eight different choices, including savory, sweet, spicy, and umami varieties. I eat here 2-3 times a week after the gym and highly recommend it. read more

At the heart of good poke is supposed to be the sushi rice, perfectly seasoned, vinegared and at body temperature, paired with FRESH quality sashimi grade fish. NONE of these attributes are what pokeworks is about: i.e. Rice was mushy and hot that came right out of the cooker, tuna was so damn stringy I thought I was eating flank steak, scallops swimming in a pool of milky brine, heavy handed saucing, probably to cover the cheap quality of the raw ingredients... etc I could go on, trust me. So the fact that this restaurant has 4 stars indicates to me that Bostonians need to up their poke game, seriously... the only reason why this review is not a one star is because I get that this sort of chain wants to be more "fast food" so one can't be expecting crazy quality, having said that it could be a whole loI better in my opinion. My first time here and I got the custom poke bowl-- white rice, 2 choices of protein: I got shrimp and ahi tuna, and all the toppings you want. I think I got both kinds of seaweed because one was sweet and the other salty, adds a nice crunch to the poke. Other toppings I got were edamame, cilantro, mango, nori strips, garlic crisps, onion crisps, ginger, and wasabi. They have different options for dressing and I think I ended up choosing some sort of sesame vinaigrette. The poke bowl came together nicely and I enjoyed it very much. Besides all the usual topping goodness, this place actually offers Thai chili peppers!! If you're a newb with spices, then stay away.
