When I first ate at Life Alive back in 2011 and I thought it was revolutionary to have such healthy meals readily available. It made sense: a single restaurant could order, store, and make these fresh veggies for many customers better than multiple households doing the same thing but individually. But how far they've fallen. I recently ate at a new location centered in a popular area, far from farms. The cheese in the dish is visibly melted in some areas but not others, the broccoli is overcooked and tastes bland (whereas before it had a fresh, bright green color). I wouldn't be surprised if, in their expansions in becoming a chain, that their suppliers have changed and they might be event cutting corners on sourcing cheap, low quality vegetables. That would be such an insult though to the original mission of Life Alive and what they still claim to do. At least they still have nice staff. read more

Both were delicious, but were a health-foods variation of these classic menu items and had different flavors (kale, beets, and broccoli in the bibimbap and grape tomatoes in the shawarma wrap). Food: I ordered the avocado toast, miso soup, and mint tea. The miso soup was umami goodness. Lots of mushrooms and tofu. The mint flavor of the tea was overpowered by the addition of fresh ginger and lemon but was still tasty and comforting on a cold day. The avocado toast was a bit of a letdown. Very bland and would have been vastly improved by the addition of some kind of seasoning, even just a sprinkle of salt. Overall - I would come back, just skip the avocado toast. read more

I've been to Life Alive multiple times (and can I just say, it hits every time), but never this location! Specifically here, I love the layout of the restaurant! There's plenty of seating and even an underground extension of their dining area for those looking for chill, boho-esque vibes! The servers always match the energy of the restaurant with a chill attitude and kind helpfulness. As for the food itself: best salads you'll find in Boston hands down. They're fresh, unique, and made with such carefully crafted mixtures of ingredients that every bowl seems to have its own personality. I am NEVER disappointed with what I get here! Completely organic AND vegetarian, the options are numerous from soups, to bowls, to salads, wraps, smoothies, juice, and even noodles. The interior is tasteful too. Natural elements are used in the deco too- wood, vicar, interior plants etc. The seating is well spaced out between sofas and round tables and two seaters.... it a mix-and -match of all things good. Just loved the place. Got the butternut squash soup, edamame,falafel and orange blossom. The soup was really good and warm for the cold wind outside. Edamame was ok and the orange blossom very refreshing. Note: u have to clean up after urself. Sometimes Life Alive can be hit or miss depending on the location you go to plus who makes your food. I am so glad they allow substitutions, as the combos they put together for their salads & bowls isn't what I want. They have gone through menu changes before & not always for the better. It's good they do seasonal options as well to keep things less boring too.This is the newer location & considering the uptick of all these mega corps going into Kendall, it only made sense for them to be there. We ordered online for pickup, and everything was ready quickly and packaged perfectly with all the necessary silverware and napkins. I had a smoothie, a cold brew, and the avocado English muffin, all of which were delicious. My husband went with a regular coffee and an egg sandwich and thought they were solid as well. The psychotic fixation of bowl spots to need everything to taste like rice vinegar and lettuce on display here. The best thing on the menu by a mile is the spicy peanut noodles. If you're dining in or picking up you can customize your order. So I opt to pay a few bucks extra and get it made how I think it should be made. Udon noodles over ramen noodles so it's less watery and more filling. Extra peanut crumble. Extra satay sauce. Again, this is all to nudge a really good dish away from the crunchy rice vinegar tendencies every bowl place in the city strives for and make it a hearty savory bowl of noodles that tastes like peanuts and spices. They almost never actually include the extras. Again... these aren't extras you *ask* for. These are extras you *pay* for and they're almost never included. The satay sauce has gotten more and more watered down over time, and no matter how I order it ends up coming back as watery noodle salad. The lofted ceilings create an airy atmosphere that is somehow both spacious and cozy. The warm tones are inviting and soft. The Avocado Sol is my favorite bowl here; the portions are large and I can always split it into two meals. The hot chocolate was a bit gritty but still quite tasty. I love Life Alive, I've been going there since they opened in Lowell (!) and since I've moved to Cambridge I've enjoyed their Central Square location a ton! This Life Alive, though, is not up to par. I have come here two different times in the past three weeks and every time I go and stand in line in front of the register, whoever is behind it acts extremely uninterested in taking my order, and even walk away to either bus tables or talk to their colleagues. Now, I understand that bussing tables or communicating with their fellow staff members is a part of their job, but to do it while someone is clearly in line, not looking at the menu (because they know what they will order) is utterly ridiculous. It is utterly disappointing to be treated this way, especially since I know other staff at other Life Alive locations are friendly, welcoming, and definitely available to take orders when at the register! read more
