We were excited to try this place based on the reviews we have heard and the pictures of ice cream we've seen! We walked in and got seated quickly, but once we ordered our food our wait was over an hour and none of it came out at the same time. What made it worse was that our two year old was the last to get his food. The waitress was doing her best but the manager was very unprofessional. After the long wait for food that wasn't even very good, most of us passed on ice cream because we were simply ready to get out of there. This place is such an awesome idea. It's fun, eclectic, colorful, and original. It is kind of like a diner that merged with over the top fun decor. My family and I have been here twice on our trips from PA to KY. There isn't anything healthy on the menu, but you only live once and this is a great place to stop in once or twice a year. They serve breakfast all day. They have wraps, sandwiches, burgers, and a variety of dinners. We've had a Rueben, a Rueben hotdog, grilled chicken with sautéed mushrooms & onions, French toast, nachos, and more. Truly, the food is good, better than an average diner, but the most exciting part of this place is the desserts. The ice cream is NOT high quality, but all the additions, are SOOOO much fun. We've had sundaes that every scoop is the size of a softball. We've had a slice of one of their amazing homemade cheesecakes with walnut crust. We also had table-side s'mores. Today, on our most recent visit, we had a s'more shake, a donut shake, and a cannoli shake. They were AWESOME!!! Can't say how much fun this place. We drove down from Pittsburgh. We hadn't been there for a few years but things haven't changed. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The food was delicious. I had the meat lovers omelet and my wife had the pancakes. Both was very filling. After breaksfast ( it was lunch time ) we stayed around and had dessert. I had the peanut butter pie and my wife had the hot fudge sundae. The sundae was huge and very good. The pie was out of this world wonderful. We had the pleasure of having Marley be our server and she was very attentive and very pleasant. They are not closed, they recently reopened after 2 years. We all decided to give this resturant a shot. Ordered the yeti dog. The hotdog was dry af, it was like eating a slim jim in a pretzel bun. The fries it came with were limp. Presentation was nice but the actual consuming of the food was something to be desired because I ceratainly went hungry today. I think this needs an update. We continue to enjoy ourselves visiting this quirky, attractive, and very unique diner. The food can be uneven, but they are trying to use local sources. The manager is gregarious and now recognizes us. We came in on our trip to KY on Tuesday evening having forgotten that is was the national dessert holiday known as Valentines Day. Simply overwhelming. Anyway, they deserve extra credit. We learn more about WV everytime we pass through. A local laundromat decorates for St. Patrick's Day. Do your clothes come back green? Saturday, October 21st, I went to Poky Dot for lunch. My wife and I walked in and were told there was one table in front of us before we could be seated. Then, a party comes in after us and was seated immediately. Restaurants are first come first serve. That's how it SHOULD work. If you're going to pick and choose which party you're going to seat based on where you'd like them to sit, at least have seating for the rejects to wait. On the other hand, Copperhouse Grill across town seated us and gave us prompt service. Good places are out there. They just aren't found in the same building as Poky Dot. Update: We tried it again and at least got in. Took fifteen minutes to have someone come check on us for drinks after we sat down and they weren't crowded. We ordered those fancy milkshakes. Didn't know they were attempting to bankrupt us. Prices were not on the menu. It was about a $40 trip for two milkshakes. Getting a bit big for their britches down there when they aren't even that good. It confirmed our fears we would have to continue to boycott the place. Don't bother. read more

I have gone to Poky Dot a few times now and it just never is good. There's like a handful of people who praise it and I don't understand it and it feels like a PokyDot-oriented cult. The first time I went, there were chunks of mystery meat in my water, got new water, but it was still there. Wow is all I can say. This place is truly unique, a very cute 50s style ice cream parlor with the most insane desserts you can dream up! A 3 pound banana split!? Yes please...a cotton candy flavored Mermaid themed milkshake topped with a donut and rock candy stick!? Bring it on! This place is a diabetics worst nightmare but ohhhhhh it's tasty!!! My best advice would be to split something with whoever you're with because one person cannot finish any of their specialty ice cream sundaes alone (the smallest you can get is 1 pound). I tried to contact a manager or owner directly before putting this online but it seems you can't message them and their comment section on their site doesn't work. I have a big family and when we go out to eat we're lucky enough to not have to worry about splurging on our kids. Last night we spent $85 at this place (before tip) and that's the last dime we'll spend. The place is dirty. There is food, trash and sprinkles everywhere behind the bar and on shelves. My kids were served rotten grapes and we were served dirty celery. The $13 milkshake was bland and watery. CJ was great and seemed a little new but most of the other employees (kitchen staff included) were more worried about going out to smoke and openly talking about partying and 'getting together' than working. Our friends from Fairmont wanted to take us here for dessert. With a power outage we decided to make it dinner and dessert. My wife shared the He-Man breakfast with our daughter and it was so much food! Served on a garbage can lid, it was definitely He-Man worthy! The ultimate piece was dessert. We decided to go for the banana split, which was a giant 9 lb plate full of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream. It may not have been 9 lbs, but it was definitely huge. All 7 of us ate on this dessert and barely got past half of it being gone. We were all in an ice cream coma by the time it was done! The atmosphere was fun and the service was very good. This place is really adorable. I love a good diner AND anywhere that embraces the Halloween holiday (my favorite). As soon as I saw giant cups of coffee, brightly colored chairs and black boas with witch faces, I knew we were going to get along. Apparently this place has been featured on Man vs Food and we saw two guys there attempting to eat the trashcan lid (literally) of food. They didn't succeed but made a good go of things. The service is very friendly. I don't care for being called ma'am but I'm quite sure that's a regional thing and I don't look like I'm 80. *crossing fingers* I had the cheese omelet with a biscuit. The omelet was good and cheesey, a bit too buttery but a healthy potion. The biscuit was disappointing, it had more of a roll consistency but not matter. Atmosphere wins me over every time. The food is soooo good! Unfortunately, the service is not. My boyfriend and I were there nearly 2 hrs last night. All we had were burgers and fries, and we ordered milkshakes after we ate. The atmosphere was almost chaotic. Our waitress was nice, but she never came back to check on us. My order was wrong (I ordered onion rings but ended up with fries). I just ate the fries, which were good, since she didn't come back. The waitress finally checked on us when she realized our table had already been bussed and we were still sitting there. My boyfriend finally got to ask for a refill at that point, and we ordered the milkshakes. It took about another 1/2 hr to get them. Then, we had to wait for the check. I think they would benefit from having dedicated dessert/milkshake preparers like they have cooks instead of having the waitresses prepare them. This just adds to the ridiculously long time it takes to get served. When we're in the area again, I would like to try to stop during the day. I don't know if they were just overwhelmed because it was a Saturday night. read more

We got a turkey club, barely edible and a weird ham & cheese omelet that was not edible at all. Had some weird garlic/onion powder on top. When the manager and waitress noticed I did not eat they tried to get me to wait for a new one, waited 30 minutes on the first one and there was no cheese in the middle which is what an omelet is supposed to be, If I would have eaten more than I did a discount would have been in order but with what I ate they should have taken it off the bill .
