We had a large group! Even with the sign saying hey we're short staffed please bear with us. They were amazing and took the time to get every order from every kid and adult. I absolutely love my cherry infused ice cream with lots of cherries and chocolate my uncle had the caramel coffee, espresso, something ice cream Beverage. All the Littles had something that was blue and looked tasty but can't do that at my age anymore, it was very unique and it's decoration. Definitely will go again! read more

Polar bear ice cream is this sweet little ice cream shop in a strip mall outside of the Big Canoe entrance. It's rather small but just a couple of booths and a few tables as well as a bar for seating. There is also ample shade outside! The girls behind the counter were friendly and helpful answering questions. The samples are generous. They had freezers with the names on them. Being an ice cream connoisseur & maker, however, I was disappointed in many of the flavors as they just didn't seem to have a homemade taste. The spumoni was visibly icy and wasn't creamy on the palate. It's not small batch like Jeni's, or high quality product like Haagen Dazs or what they serve in downtown Jasper at Lollidrops. The mouthfeel just isn't quite there. I settled on cherry ice cream with chocolate chunks and praline pecan. The portions were very generous and nestled nicely in a (underbaked) waffle cone. We enjoyed it as we listened to the old time jukebox as it bellowed 90's music. Great atmosphere. Have had great things about their hotdog and their coffee so I won't hesitate to come back when I'm in the area to try those. For ice cream though, meh. read more

Sad news - Polar Bear Ice Cream is permanently closed. It was sold. It was so good. We visited at least weekly.

It's another place everyone likes because there is not much up here owned by someone who wants a business convenient to them not their lifestyle. We came here on a Sunday evening and actually drove past it at first, but saw the sign and turned around. We were the only ones when we arrived and so parking was easy. The interior is quaint and gives you that small town feel. There is a free juke box and the service is good. Though there was only one person, it did get slow when more people arrived. They offer a large variety of flavors and strangely enough, a large selection of cones. There are so many tiers of pricing because of this. Cake, Sugar, Dream, Mini Dream, Waffle, there were so many. The ice cream is not made in-house or anything so don't go expecting that. They were good with giving samples. read more

Cute local place just outside Big Canoe north gate. Server was friendly, ice cream was fresh. I would ask server to be a bit more generous with the size of a scoop. For close to $5, my scoop was 3-4 tablespoons; maybe 1/3 cup max. When I saw how small it was, I hoped perhaps she had put some inside the cone, but not the case. I don't expect (or need), a gargantuan scoop, but this was noticeably meager. read more

We stopped here on our way back to Waleska from Amicalola Falls. So grateful for a delicious ice cram place on our way home. All of the ice cream and cones we got were delicious! I had the peanut butter chocolate swirl and salty caramel peanut and they were super yummy!! The place was clean and smelled delicious. The woman working, which I believe was the owner stayed over an hour later taking the cars that stopped in thinking she was still open. I went to polar bear ice cream only but two times before coming to my final conclusion. While walking in the first time, i liked the charming feel of the place and old timey decor. I was greeted by a scatter-brained women who told us she could get us some samples if we pleased. I sampled two flavors, and decided to get them both. i asked if she could do half scoops, of which she said no rudely. I said ok, and just said i'll do two scoops. I had to repeat my order several times because she kept forgetting it, and she struggled scooping the ice cream almost as if she wasn't properly trained. she handed me and ice cream cone that was not even one scoop. I paid $7 for and ice cream cone that was not even one scoop of ice cream. i then asked if she could make me a cappuccino, and she said the machine was down. i said ok just get me an iced coffee. she set the cup under the kerig machine and proceeded to help other customers. i waited for my coffee for 20 MINUTES before i finally went up there and asked about it. she said oh no i forgot, and made my coffee in the kerig. she handed me a hot coffee, and i said i wanted it iced and she looked at my weird. she then put in 3 ice cubes and handed it to me. they melted immediately and i was left with a luke warm coffee. the coffee was $6 for something i could have made 10x better at home. the only good thing about this place is their fantastic homemade ice cream, however i cannot get over my poor experience overall. read more

My friend asked for an iced coffee and the lady made a hot coffee and put 3 ice cubes in it to "cool it down". I'm not very impressed overall besides the fact that the ice cream is good. read more
