We needed a quick place to eat, any they were open. It was a great stroke of luck for us! Unassuming from the outside, but a few seats at the counter inside and a couple of tables outside. Food and service were outstanding. I had the burrito with chorizo, it it must have weighed 2 pounds. Meat was nice and crispy, and it was served with squeeze bottles of fresh made red and green salsa, and fresh guacamole. This is on my list of places to stop next time through. The four stars are for the staff and service. No five star because the sandwiches were not very tasty. I wish they had been. Dry on the burgers and odd chicken burger (think large, flat McNugget) We did enjoy our sides. The fries, tater tots, jalapeño poppers, and curly fries were our favorite part. We understood that they were slammed and took a long time to prepare our food. They made up for it by giving our kids free ice cream, my husband and I got free sodas, and they threw in some extra sides. Thank you! Overall still an enjoyable experience even though we didn't like the quality of the meat. My first visit to the Polar Bear was 50 years ago when I moved to Lakeview. I went there regularly throughout high school. Just went back Labor Day weekend to have my favorite burger, the Belly Buster. Even though it has new ownership, they still make this awesome double bacon cheeseburger! It was better than I remembered! And the new menu now has a Mexican touch and the street tacos are as good as any you'll find at a food cart in a Portland! There were no other customers, the woman attending the restaurant was friendly and made our shakes quickly. Unfortunately, I ordered a Rocky Road milkshake, and couldn't taste anything other than chocolate syrup. It was all over the sides and lid of the cup. I can't stand the taste of the syrup, so I ultimately just had to waste it. We also ordered a cheesecake shake, which was similarly disappointing (it just tasted like vanilla). Do you need a good burger and delicious shake? Go to Polar Bear! I stopped in while passing through Lakeview on a road trip mainly because I thought the name was cute and I was not disappointed. Their burgers are really good, moist and have lots of flavor, PLUS the price is extremely fair! I also really enjoyed their salted Carmel milk shake! Their choice of flavors is unbelievable! My favorite is the cheese cake mixed with white chocolate. WOW! Delicious. My kids love going with me because I can only have a little bit before I have to turn it over to someone else to finish. The atmosphere is local (extremely welcoming and friendly) and you are always met with a smile. It is clean, homey and just gives you a good Mayberry kinda feeling as you sit in there at the counter. Small place with lots of heart and great food! My family of 10 people in two vans were caravanning from Walla Walla, WA to California through Oregon, doing some rock hounding along the way. We were getting hungry and the kids checked on their phones to find a good place to eat in Lakeview. Polar Bear Drive-In came up with excellent reviews. Which proved to be deserved. The two ladies at the counter were friendly and helpful and patient with us. What a great alternative to the wide-spread McDonalds and other conglomerate fast food places. And this proves true of this place the owner works the place and knows all the local kids and they seem to love her.
