Folks, do not walk...RUN to Politano's in Irving, this mom-n-pop Italian, run by two actual Italian brothers, is Fantastic with a capital F. It is $12-$16 per entree, and better than Italian you've paid $40-$50 per entree for at much fancier places. Scout's honor. Complimentary garlic knots, and when you taste the accompanying red sauce that's your first indicator this is not an average Italian restaurant. Had a house salad with Ranch. This was the only 'standard' item of the meal. Entree, had the Creamy Mushroom Tortellini with Veggies ($3.25 addition, charred broccoli, tomatoes, extra mushrooms). You can get Alfredo or a creamy tomato sauce. I asked the owner's recommendation, he said creamy tomato, I went with that. Oh sweet mama.... C-H-E-F-S K-I-S-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could not fathom it would be a top tier of all time Italian dish. Totally not expecting, and totally blown out of the water. So much so, I told a buddy who lives 3 hours from Dallas, he & his kids could make a Saturday road trip just to eat a meal here & it would be worth it... I'm visiting from out of state (lived in DFW ten yrs prior), this was a fantastic surprise on the visit. This restaurant is on the smaller size. They have about 5 booths and 5 tables and chairs in the front. The service was very good. The food was amazing! I had the shrimp linguini with a salad and the bread knots that they serve with your meal. My friend had the lasagna with salad and bread. The food was super awesome!!! Decently good food, at a pretty good price. They have lunch specials every day between 11am and 4pm and the specials are quite budget friendly. I got the 10" pizza with three toppings which includes a drink for $11.99. It wasn't the best pizza I ever had, but it was good. The calamari was also tasty. My friend got the shrimp scampi and that was pretty decent. The shrimp had good flavor. Service was good as well. The lady came by several times to check on us. However, note that we were the only ones in the store that day. Overall, would come back because of the good lunch specials that they have every day of the week. There's a couple of booths and tables inside. It's not a super large space, so not ideal for big groups. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot. It's inside a little plaza. read more

Starting off strong--the lunch value here is OFF THE CHARTS. The portions are massive, and honestly, two hungry people could split a single entrée and still leave full. The stromboli? An absolute beast. I swear, this thing could've fed a small family--easily 14 inches long and packed with cheesy, meaty goodness. We also ordered the lasagna lunch special, which came with rolls, a salad, and a soda (and the stromboli comes with a soda too--insane deal). Between the two? The lasagna won. But here's where things take a turn... DALLAS. WHY? Why does every pizza place insist on using those crappy, Domino's-style sausage turds (yes, I said it... pellets). PLEASE, for the love of all things meaty and Italian, use REAL Italian sausage--de-cased, sliced, whatever, I'll take anything but these weird meat pebbles. I will pay extra. I beg you. That said, the lasagna was actually great. Instead of a traditional stacked slice, it was a more "free-form" lasagna, with all the ingredients mixed and heated together in a dish. We've been getting Politanos takeout at least twice a month for the last 1.5 years and usually rotate between their pasta dishes and pizza. Quality has significantly declined lately. The last few times it looked/tasted like our pizza wasn't fully cooked- toppings weren't roasted, cheese not fully melted and still doughy. I love the Politanos Spaghetti Special and usually add mozzarella and/or grilled chicken. Lately the sauce has become very watery and portions seem smaller. I'm really disappointed and hope they can turn things around. read more

This place is delicious! We got a regular pizza, a ricotta pizza and a sausage pepper pizza! All had great flavor. The service was pretty good and the employees were absolutely nice. Sorry, the staff were really nice and it's hard to do a review with good service s 3 stars for that but the food is not great :(. The pasta in lemon sauce was bad. It didn't taste any lemon sauce at all and even with capers on them, there's no tart taste. The salmon with it wasn't fresh at all and we ended up not eating the rest of it after 1 bite. My husband who eats everything did not it at all. The bolognese was not bad and I ended up sharing the plate so I will have something to eat. Calamari was gooey and not crispy :( read more

Our go to takeout place for pastas! My kids love it and the pastas are not too grease. I love their garlic knots.

We ate here for the first time about a month ago for lunch on a Thursday and it was pretty busy which was a good sign. We were quickly seated and browsed the menu. We received fresh, soft rolls with marinara which was good. I ordered spaghetti & meatballs and my wife ordered lobster ravioli both of which were EXCELLENT. Both meals also came with a side salad. I don't leave food reviews but I'm definitely leaving one today! I ordered the Fettuccine Carbonara with chicken and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was well seasoned. Pasta and sauce was amazing and the portion was larger than expected. Save room for their garlic bread and rolls with the marinara because it's so good. Let me also add that my order was take-out and everything was HOT and FRESH! Even after a 10 minute drive home our food was still hot. Politano's deserves 10 stars!! We dropped into Politano's for lunch yesterday and had some great food for very reasonable prices. The lunch special was only $11 for a huge calzone that I took home and ate again for lunch today (which was also still very good). I was sat quickly and after a short wait, our orders were taken. They were busy and for good reason - it's hard to find such good food with great lunch specials. Decided to give this neighborhood spot a try and wow! This is a cute little Italian spot and the service was friendly. There is a great variety on the menu and everything was overall delicious. What we ordered: Fettuccine Carbonara 3.5/5 - we usually don't order pasta, but this looked good. The pasta was al dente and fresh. The sauce was creamy, but not too heavy. I wish there was more bacon, since we only got tiny pieces. It was tasty, but wasn't amazing. Would love to try their other pastas next time. Ricotta Gourmet Pizza 5/5 - we added Italian sausage to this specialty pizza and it took it to the next level. This is one of our favorite pizzas we have ever had! I was craving some creamy fettuccine Alfredo and wanted to give this restaurant a try. The male employee was very friendly and helpful, which I appreciated. I chose the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and the mozzarella sticks appetizer. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. The mozzarella sticks were your standard sticks- yummy marinara sauce. The entree was a little disappointing, unfortunately. There was more butter than Alfredo sauce, so it didn't really taste like the typical version. The shrimp was cooked well, thankfully. I tried this restaurant for the first time, and typically with Italian places I will try the Lasagna or the Meatball Parmesan sandwich as a baseline for the quality of the restaurant. Today I had the Meatball Parm, and the quality of the bread, the meat, and the cheese was good, but the flavor was lacking. The sandwich itself was not really toasted quite enough for all the cheese to melt, the meatballs were good but not great, and the sauce was fair. The meatballs also easily fell out of the bottom of the sandwich which is kind of annoying when you're eating a meatball sub. The place is very nice and looks brand new. I was thinking to come back to try the Lasagna and the pizza, though the pizza is extremely expensive. It seems to me that they've inflated their pizza price because it's a popular dish, which bugs me, $15 for a personal pizza is excessive in my opinion. Service was good, and they re-toasted my sub with apologies, so they get an extra star for that. read more
